Hi! Can I join?

I've just finished my first tube of Retin-A 500 mg tube OTC from Johnson&Johnson. I didn't experience any peeling whatsoever. Is that okay? I' 36, I don't have any problems with my skin, actually i just want to use it as my maintenance. I'm not really sure if it's working though. Am i supposed to see any visible peeling? I don't use it alone though because i layer it with my other skin care products.

Btw, any feedbacks on Obagi Tretinoin Cream?

Tha main effect of Tretinoin is collagen production, mechanism is through irritation. Some people don't experience visible peeling but can still see a general improvement in their skin tone - less pronounced, fine lines, firmer skin. But tretinoin is most effective when you use it alone or with penetration enahncers like AHA, BHA or even niacinamide, but depending on the formula of your chosen enhancer. Best enhancers are either cleansers, toners or serum/solutions that do not have emollient ingredients that can also buffer the tretinoin. Moisturizers applied before or after tret can also buffer the tret and make it less effective. Such methods are advised for those with sensitive skin who cant tolerate tret on its own. If you feel you need to moisturize after tret, apply your moisturizer 20-30 minutes after applying tret, to allow it to penetrate first.

As for Obagi tretinoin cream, there are two kinds. Forgot na what it's called. i've used both and found nothing special, to think na it's about 3-4 times the price of drugstore tret. I prefer Stieva-A 0.1% and Retacnyl 0.05%. And before when Obagi was first introduced in the market, they prescribe it with gegular Retin-A and it seemed to do the trick.

Thanks a lot for the info sis WickedWitchofTheWest and thanks for answering my questions.  I'll keep that in mind. Actually i use it before my Olay Regenerist wrinkle relaxing cream. I do have normal skin, but i'll follow your advice, I'll just wait 20-30 minutes for the retin a to absorb before applying my Olay.

I agree, very expensive nga yung Obagi, i found one on  ebay, it's sold for 1900.

Last question sis WickedWitchofTheWest, if you don't mind please...  Would you go higher on the % formulation or rather stick to the lowest % for maintenance? Like in my case nga, at 36, luckily i don't have that much visible wrinkles yet. I only have just a few tiny crows feet around my eyes when i laugh and at the nasolabial fold, and my skin is fairly smooth already. What would you suggest?

you're welcome sis, happy to help. I'm not familiar with Olay wrinkle relaxing cream, but as Olay creams usually has niacinamide, it can actually help tret perform more efficiently. But yes, try to wait 20-30 minutes, just to maximize the effect of tret.

For maintenance, if the lowest concentration works for you, then just stick with that. We usually go higher when we feel that the lower concentrations are not really doing anything much.

on a side note, OA naman ng ebay seller. Before when I was going to the House of Obagi nasa P1,700 lang ang tret, I'm sure OA na sa markup yon at that price. I still use Obagi Sunshield, but I get it from the states, for around P1,600.00, they sell it here for 3,500++

so far, after three months my pimples are getting fewer, may redness pa rin pero konti na lang
i almost gave up coz i thought my skin was getting much much worse pero buti na lang tiniis ko
kahit na parati akong tinatanong "o anong nangyari sa mukha mo? ba't lumala?" 

yun nga lang, i have red post acne marks but i'll go to my derma for that later.
i'm still getting really tiny pimples and i dont know kung sa moisturizer ba to (i use physiogel lotion) or sa sunblock or i'm still purging...

Sobrang nakakastress ang purging.. ( nag-give up nga ako after ko maubos yung retin-a ko eh..

Btw, pag gumamit ba ako ulit may purging na naman? O wala na? Gumagamit ako erythromycin ngayon.. Any replies? Thanks!!

kagabi I search for some obagi etc..about tretinoin to..may nakita ako sa youtube na babae and testimony nya about tretinoin 61 year old na sya pero ang ganda ng skin pa nya mga sis she swear about using tretinoin na daw since na discovered nya yun..sabi nya she start using it daw at age of 48 ba pagkakatanda ko until age now nya 61 pero she don't look 61 akala ko nga mga 50 lang sya kc ang kinis at mukhang alaga nya yung skin nya althou yung eye area nya makikita mo yung age kc sabi naman nya di daw sya nag papabotox tretinoin lang daw at ang gamit nya is 1% every night daw nya gamit yun. sabi nya din meron din syang hydroquinone 4% for dark spot lang daw..pero ang kinis talaga nya mga sis.

i tried using the derm-a tretinoin .01% percent lang, i just used it for two nights, i stopped using na kasi may sting effect for me pag im washing my face and yesterday and today pansin ko nag pepeel face ko as in, ganun po ba un? 1% solution lang naman iyon pero grabe sa peeling. panget tuloy tingnan face ko nagbabalat..

thanks sis, talagang na-depress ako dahil sa pimples na to ha, araw-araw ka ba namang lalapitan ng kung sino sino at tatanungin tungkol sa mukha mo..
meron pa ngang nag-comment na "nagka-chicken pox ka?" may chicken pox ba na sa face lang?? hello! 
pero dinaan ko na lang lahat sa tawa kasi baka mabaliw lang ako 

@sis KrabbyPatty! : gaano mo katagal ginamit kung tret mo before giving up? i'm also using erythromycin solution b4 applying tret. and from what i've read, if your skin has something to purge, magpu-purge talaga yan sis.

sis KrabbyPatty! what can u suggest for a moisturizer? yong ginamit ko olay total effects day cream mejo nagiging matigas sya eh, unlike nung hindi ako nag apply ng tretinoin ok naman yung olay.. and do i have to continue using the tretinoin? i stop using it already

^ @ sis lady_liberty mga 5weeks ako gumamit.. Di ko na kinaya eh. Nagpa-facial ako tas tumigil sa tret. Pero ngayong nawala na mga pimples, gusto ko na ulit magtry. Di ba napprevent ng erythromycin yung purging? Mga one month na akong nagstop..

@ sis vaneesaportia_2007 - try cetaphil moisturizer.. Yun kasi ang mildest sa pagkakaalam ko. Yung derma ko yun din ang sinuggest na moisturizer sa akin

7 months on tret and glyco and met a friend earlier (saw her last year pa), gulat na gulat, bat daw clear skin ako now (i used to have lotsa pimples). Guess it really works!

sis, mag obagi ka. Proven effective and kikinis at magcclear face mo. Kahit mahal pagipunan mo na lang. para sayo naman yun eh di ba :-)

Hi sissies i hope someone can answer me medyo praning ako right now, after back reading na engganyo ako mag tret..so i bought derm a .05. I dont have problems in my skin esp on my cheeks and forehead..nag kaka monthly zit lang ako sa nose and chin pa isa isa...ganun...edi nilagay ko na sya thinly half pea size amount then i go to sleep kinabukasan may dalawa pustules sa chin and may cystic na isa din ...then day two sa fore head nag ka bumps ako mga 5 sila then the 5th day dalawang cystic sa face!!! Omg am i on the purging stage or mag stop nako??? I dont put anything on my skin aside from derm a

^^pwedeng purging, pwedeng allergic reaction. Can you describe the bumbs on your forehead?
If skin-colored bumps, pwedeng irritation yan. Also, cystic acne takes a while to form, lalo na if you're not prone so I'm guessing it might be a reaction as well. Stop ka muna for a few days and see if it goes away after about a week or two. When you start again, buffer mo muna ang tret by mixing it with a bland moisturizer 1:1 ratio. You can use physiogel cream or cetaphil cream or something similar, basta walang ibang active ingredient that can contradict the tret or further your irritation.
