thanks po. i did have chicken pox when i was just in grade 1 i was also vaccinated for chicken pox when i was young. ask ko lang po what about the people na kasama nya sa bahay? baby cant be exposed with them also? sometimes po kasi hubby goes there he never had chicken pox wala din daw sya vaccine.

Hi Doc Lelet,
My baby had his 1st dose of rotateq Feb 23. He was scheduled for the 2nd dose last week but his pedia was on a convention so hindi na natuloy. We will see her instead this May 1. Does this mean that we had to start all over again? ThAnks po

No need to repeat the whole series again. Counted pa rin ang first dose ng rotavirus vaccine niya kahit na late ng konti ang 2nd dose.

@crib:
She can still get the 2nd dose of the hepatitis A vaccine kahit na later than the recommended 6 to 12 month interval. It will just be part of catch up immunization.
As to whether or not to give MMRV or separate MMR or V vaccines for her 1st dose, personally, I prefer to give MMR and varicella as separate vaccines due to the reported higher incidence of febrile seizures with MMRV used as 1st dose (not seen though when MMRV was given as the 2nd dose). Please backread regarding this issue since I posted the ACIP recommendation regarding this before.
Please ask na rin your pedia regarding her views about this kasi baka iba ang views niya.

As much as possible, wala muna from your household dapat ang magvisit sa father in law mo lalo na ang husband mo na never pang nagkaroon ng chickenpox and hindi rin nabakunahan. Your baby has some protection against getting infected due to the maternal chickenpox antibodies pero she still has a small risk of getting it if your husband gets infected.

Hi doc lelet, napansin ko po kasi may pus po yung bcg vaccine site ni baby ko tapos after nya maligo pumutok na..normal po ba yun or sign ng infection? Thanks for your help

^ When was she vaccinated with BCG?
 It is normal for the BCG vaccination site to have pus formation leading to scar formation 2 to 4 weeks after vaccination. Sometimes even longer than 4 weeks before pus develops...
What is abnormal is for the BCG vaccination site to develop pus and scar within 7 days from vaccination. That is called an accelerated reaction and the child needs to get worked up for PC/TB.

^ Not really standard. Depends on your pedia what to prioritize/schedule first. Pwede kasi Penta + rota then next visit, PCV naman, then Penta + rota ulit.

@ doc lelet, thanks again for the feedback. separate MMR then V na lang po ipapa-shot ko. Another question po doc. nagpa flu vaccine siya nung april 20 (1st dose) is it okay to give her the 2nd dose on May 18 po?

Doc Lelet, I noticed na yung area kung saan binakunahan si baby ng 2nd dose of 5 in 1 shot, may konting parang bukol. Itinawag ko ito agad nun sa clinic ng pedia ni baby ang sabi ihot compress then cold compress. Pero up to now mag 2 weeks na meron pa rin though maliit naman na. Should I be concerned? O normal lang yun? Hindi naman nasasaktan si baby pag pinipindot ko...

^ Nodules commonly develop after the 2nd dose of 5 in 1. It is due to the collection of antibodies at the vaccination site. No need to worry since it will disappear in time (sometimes weeks to months). Hot compress may help in dissolving the nodule.

Doc from 6 months onwards, monthly po may flu vaccine?

^ No. For babies 6 months to 8 years old receiving the flu vaccine for the 1st time, 2 doses are given, at least 1 month apart. After that, 1 dose na lang given yearly.
If 1 dose lang ang naibigay during the 1st year, the child has to receive 2 doses the following year. Then 1 dose na lang given yearly.

hello need some help here 

I am so confused about the dosage of 6in1 vaccine. My daughter was born on March 30,2013.

 Yung isang pedia ni baby sabe ang 6in1 3 times binibigay and gusto nia sa may 21, 2013
may: 6 in 1
july: 6 in 1
september: 6 in1

while yung isang dra. naman na napuntahan namin sabe daw 2months binibigay ang 6 in1 so may 30, 2013.

may: 6 in 1
july: 6 in 1
september: 5 in1 (ganto din ba yung sainyo sis 5in1 ang dulo)

Hi I have almost the same dilemma my baby was given 5in1 twice na and the doctor said next visit which is on june 6 in1 na ibibigay it'll include daw the 3rd hepa b dose ilang shots po ba dapat yung hepa? As I've read her baby book naka 2 hepa Spa na si baby one was when she's just a new born the other one was during her first month.

DaPT and Polio - 3 primary doses and 2 boosters
Hib - 3 primary doses and 1 booster
Hepatitis B - 3 doses if mother is not hepatitis B positive; If mother is Hepatitis B positive, then the baby should be given 4 doses. Also, if the baby received the 3rd dose of hepatitis B vaccine prior to 6 months after the 1st dose, then a booster dose should be given a year after the 3rd dose.
By the way, the 3 doses should be given as follows:
Birth - 1st dose of hepatitis B vaccine
1 month - 2nd dose
6th month - 3rd dose

There are pedias who opt to give the 6 in 1 as 3 doses rather than the ff scenario:
1st dose - 6 in 1
2nd dose - 5 in 1 same brand
3rd dose - 6 in 1
The practice of giving 3 doses of 6 in 1 is acceptable since there is low antibody production with hepatitis B vaccine so kahit more than 3 doses, hindi ito considered as overdose.

Hi Doc Lelet. I noticed that my son has no BCG scar.  I checked on both his arms.  I read somewhere that if the BCG didn't leave any scar, kailangan ulitin kc it was not properly administered, something like that?  I knew that my baby was given BCG for the pedia even asked me where will she inject it when we were still at the hospital.  I knew she had it injected on his arm.  Is it true that I need to have him injected again.  My baby is now 5 months and 2 weeks old.  Thank you again.
