Regarding hot or cold compress, please ask your pedia since baka may preference siya regarding this. Personally, I tell my patients to use cold compress since warm compress immediately after vaccination may dilate the surrounding blood vessels and cause more swelling and pain.
Fever, irritability and swelling on the injection site are common side effects of the penta vaccine but not all patients will develop these side effects. Best to observe baby for the next 24 hours.

No, you cannot change PCV brands since there are minor and major differences between the 2 brands (difference in number of strains and in carrier protein/adjuvant). Changing the brand mid-series may affect antibody production.
There are only 2 brands of PCV available right now: PCV 10 (Synflorix) and PCV 13 (Prevenar 13). Since PCV 10 ang first brand given, it has to be PCV 10 or Synflorix all through out.

Malaking advantage ng combination vaccines like 5 in 1 and 6 in 1 because there is only 1 injection (therefore lesser pain) for 5 to 6 diseases being protected by the vaccine. Price wise, cheaper din siya pagkinompute mo lahat lahat.
Also, since 5 in 1 and 6 in 1 vaccines contain acellular pertussis and not whole cell pertussis, then there is lesser chance for side effects like high fever, irritability and convulsions.
Yes, there are more vaccines now than before, but shouldn't we be happy that we have a better chance of protecting our children from potentially fatal diseases compared to before? At least, there is lesser chance of our children having polio, measles, pertussis, chickenpox, etc.

Hi Doc Lelet.  Ano po difference ng PCV10 and PCV13.  Ang unang vaccination kc ng son ko is PCV13 and it costs 4,500.  Then nung nagcompare kami ng sis in law ko, [textspeak!] sa mga anak niya is PCV10 and it costs 3,100.  There's a very big difference kc in price eh.  Thank you so much.

hi doc lelet. Thanks p0. Nagcold compress po kame and pakiramdam ko naman nawala na yung pain. Nag 37.6 C lang po cya, one time lang yun tas wala na.. thanks po.
Kelangan pa po ba ng rotavirus vaccine? Medyo may kamahalan kasi..san po ba galing ang virus na yun?

Both brands differ in the number of strains and carrier/adjuvant protein.
PCV 13 is conjugated to a diphtheria protein while PCV 10 is conjugated to a non-typeable h. influenza.
Mas maraming strains ang included sa PCV 13 (the number 13 denotes the number of strains) compared sa PCV 10. PCV 13 is also the pioneer brand kaya mas mahal talaga ito compared sa PCV 10.
Since your baby was already given PCV 13, hindi siya pwede ilipat sa PCV 10.

For children 6 months to 9 years of age receiving the flu vaccine for the first time: 2 doses given at least 1 month apart
After that, 1 dose given yearly.
I do not suggest delaying the measles vaccine till 1 year of age since babies 6 to 9 months of age are really the ones most vulnerable in getting the measles infection and its' complications. Mas mabilis mawala ang maternal measles antibodies ng Filipino babies kaya ang recommendation talaga is to give the measles vaccine at 6 to 9 months of age.

Rotavirus is the most common cause of diarrhea in children less than 5 years of age.
Are you fully breastfeeding your child? If you are, then breastfeeding offers protection against the rotavirus infection kaya pwede itong hindi ibigay sa babies na fully breastfed. If mixed feeding or formula fed, then I recommend having the baby given the rotavirus vaccine.

^ I suggest you ask your pedia's views regarding this also since her views may be different from mine. The rotavirus vaccine kasi is not an optional vaccine. It is really part of the recommended immunization schedule of the PPS, the WHO and the AAP.   
Also, technically, your baby still falls under mixed feeding since he is still given formula no matter how small the amount is per day.

Kasama na rin ang rotavirus vaccine sa Expanded immunization program of the WHO. There are some local health centers which give the rotavirus vaccine. I just don't know if it is free or the parents pay for it.

Hi Mommies, Ask ko lang po sana kung dapat talagang mag-iwan ng peklat ang BCG Vaccine at anong dapat gawin kung walang peklat dun sa area na binakunahan?.

Sa daughter ko po kasi wala syang peklat. I thought ok lang po yun kasi di naman po sinabi sa health center na magkakaron ng ganun o dapat kong imonitor kung magkakapeklat or not.

Kasi nung saturday po may nagsabi sa akin na dapat may peklat daw na iiwan [textspeak!] BCG vaccine kasi pag wala daw hindi daw po umepekto [textspeak!] vaccine.

kahapon po tinanong ko ang pedia ng baby ko and he said na dapat daw may peklat. and then nagtanong din po ako sa health center, sabi naman po nila may pagkakataon daw na hindi nagpepeklat pero it doesn't mean na hindi umipekto [textspeak!] vaccine. If gusto daw ipaulit [textspeak!] vaccine, pag 7 years old na daw po ang baby ko.

Pa-help naman po kasi nalilito ako kung sino ang paniniwalaan ko. btw, 15 months old na po ang baby ko. complete po sya sa vaccines. meron na po sya ng BCG, Hepa B, DPT, OPV, HIB, PCV, Chicken Pox, Flu, Measles, Hepa A & MMR.

Hi to all mommies and doc lelet,

My little girl is 2 years and 4 months old. I stopped her vaccinations January 2012 which is Hep A first dose only. Followed by flu vaccine last saturday 04/20/2013, 1st dose.

My questions are, is it okay to give her vaccines like Hep A (2nd dose), varicella and MMR beyond the recommended age? If yes, what's the interval and vaccine to be given? Like next month 2nd dose of Flu vaccine. Then the other month varicella or MMR or can be combination since MMRV is available in the market.

here's my situation, si baby nabigyan ng hepa b at birth..tapos yung mga sumunod na vaccine niya including bcg sa health center na namin inavail kasi nga libre.eh ang binibigay nila sa health center dito sa amin is 5in1 vaccine ata, kasi ang nilalagyan ng mark ng nurse sa baby book ni baby is hepa B,DTaP/DTwP, Hib,OPV/IPV and rotavirus. kanina lang, baby got her 3rd shot from sa health center,eh ngayon ko lang po narealize na baby's first shot of hepa B was seperated po sa 5in1,so meaning pang 4th shot na ni baby ng hepa b yung kanina!doc may kailangan po ba akong ikabahala?i mean may side effect po ba pag 4 shots ng hepa B na sunod sunod ang binigay?

Hi doc and mga sis I have a 4 months old daughter just last week my father in law had full blown bulutong. When can she get the shot for that and how long po is the incubation period of bulutong?  Baka po kasi mag tampo if hindi namin dinalaw with baby this weekend. Pwede na po kaya namin dalhin si baby sa kanila this weekend?

^ naku sis wag muna, di naman sya siguro magtatampo if para sa health ng baby. 1-2 weeks kasi ang bulutong and mas napapapasa pag pagaling na. mas importante naman siguro health ni baby kesa sa tampo ni lolo hehe...hindi pa sya pwede for shot, at kahit kayo na caretakers ni baby hindi pwedeng dumalaw baka dumikit sa inyo viral yan eh. i remember mister ko dumaan lang sa harap ng bahay namin nahawa sa pamangkin ko. ganun sya kabilis makahawa.

2nd dose of rotateq should be given 4 to 8 weeks from the 1st dose.

BCG vaccine should leave a scar on the area of the injection site. There are 2 schools of thought sa pag-ulit ng BCG vaccine kung hindi ito nagscar: one group says repeat, the other group says don't repeat anymore as long as sure na nabigay ito. I suggest you talk to your pedia regarding his or her views on the matter.

You can still have the vaccines given. Wala naman deadline for Hepatitis A, MMR and Varicella. Even adults can get those vaccines if they haven't gotten vaccinated before.
For catch up immunization, recommended minimum interval is 4 weeks.
Your pedia is the best person to ask/decide as to what vaccines to prioritize. It would depend on the health status and risk of exposure of your baby kasi.

No need to be alarmed regarding the 4th dose of hepatitis B since there are cases wherein 4 doses are really given. I suggest lang to tell the health center that your baby has already received the 1st dose of hepa B vaccine at birth.

Did you get chicken pox before? If yes, then your baby should have protection from the infection via maternal antibodies. At 12 months pa kasi recommended ibigay ang chickenpox vaccine.
If you are unsure, I suggest you don't visit your father in law for the next 2 weeks since mas malakas makahawa ng chickenpox during the time the scabs are shedding. Try to explain it na lang in a nice way since your baby may be at risk of developing the infection and complications from the infection because of her immature immune system.

If my daughter had 1st dose of Hep A ok lang na 2nd dose ngayon lang ibibigay sa kanya? wala na kasi sa recommended interval na 6 to 12 months apart ang 2nd dose. ang 1st dose nya kasi january 2012 pa and hindi ko na siya napa vaccine pa 'til now nung 2nd dose. mas okay ba doc lelet MMRV na para combination na or paghiwalayin ko pa? MMR then Varicella?
