@minaco, like ikaela said the answer is a definite
no. Did your agent tell why he/she thinks you should
get a VUL?

If I didn't know any better, the agent is insisting on
the VUL because it can fetch the agent larger commissions.

I'd get another agent..

@a.estrada, purely for investment po
you can withdraw anytime, there are
charges if you withdraw within the holding period
though.

If its already outside the holding period
then no more charges for withdrawals.

@Jewel, I've noticed that Sunlife's Cust Service
(via email and phone) has gone down the drain recently.
I remember email inquiries used to take just 1 business
day, last time I emailed them, one week ang turn around
time.

He told me na mas okay kung covered muna ko and at the same time may investment. Kumuha muna daw ako ng VUL before getting MF.

^siguro sis depende sa agent yung sa akin nagopen ako ng MF though sinabi sa akin na kaylangan protection hindi naman nya ako pinigilan to open MF kasi it's my decision, sobrang pushy naman ng agent mo sa VUL. inalam ba nya muna kung ano financial goal mo? and meron ka bang dependents? sa akin kasi i'm not a bread winner and my parents is not depending on my salary, although siguro pag nagkafamily ako which is wala pa  ;D

For VUL, do you think it's OK to make the spouse and a parent as dependents? Kung wala naman kids

Hehe thanks! But you can't get the funds immediately naman right? So say, there are those expenses, your family will still have to shell out money and then get reimbursed later. (we're planning on getting memorial plan meron naman like 500 or 1k per monthly only)

OR for those who have encashed anything, how's the processing time?

In Sun Safer Life's description, it says that it's renewable "without evidence of insurability". Does this mean that the policy holder's coverage will be automatically renewed without him/her having to go through a medical exam each time the term expires? You just pay the slightly increased premium for the next 5 years, and that's it? Even if the policy holder's health deteriorates, the calculated premiums will remain the same?

Sun Life's term insurance looks more expensive than others at first, but if I understand this "without evidence" clause correctly, it seems to give more value. This other yearly renewable term insurance I'm looking at is really cheap, but the agent told me I have to undergo a medical exam every year...

What company is that if you don't mind?

As far as I know that's one of the "regular" features of a Yearly Term Insurance.
The only time you have to be reevaluated is if the policy lapses and you're trying to
reinstate it.

I know Insular doesn't do it and I know for sure Manulife doesn't do it either as
I'm now on my 2nd year with them. I have their YRT with Riders.

^What a coincidence you said that because it was Insular and Manulife agents who told me I had to take a yearly medical exam in a YRT insurance, actually. They warned me about how I might become uninsurable and/or my annual premium will rise considerably if my health deteriorates. Were they deliberately misinforming me so that I get a more expensive product or were they just misinformed themselves?

Come to think of it, I've always had strange or horrible experiences buying term insurance.

In Insular, aside from the medical exam, the agent also kept saying na "masmaganda kung may cash value."

In Manulife, I was told about the yearly medical exam. If I wanted to, she'd even accompany me daw, and "Manulife would pay for everything".

In PRU, well, PRU is just expensive.

Philam Life was the absolute worst about term insurance. One agent told me na "makaluma" and "old product" na daw yun and nobody buys it. Uso daw is yung investment-linked, and that's what everybody gets daw. He wouldn't even bother printing a quote for me and passed me on to a different agent.

The second agent was nicer but also wouldn't bother showing me what riders I could add. She just assumed I wanted the expensive ones and also didn't bother printing a quote for the policy I really wanted.

The third Philam agent downright berated me for not choosing a plan right away. She also kept doing that misogynistic thing where she kept saying that I'm "exposing my husband to risk" in taking my time to get insurance. I'm like, WTF? First off, I was getting a plan for myself, and secondly, it's 2014, wives are equally financially important in a family. I bet if I was with my husband, she'd only choose to speak with him and not me even though I'm the one applying.

Sunlife Grepa was the least bad. I like the agent's style where she just showed me what I asked for. She mentioned "cash value", but did not push it. Too bad their internet connection at that time was unreliable.

I wish there was some way to just buy and renew term insurance online. Talking with insurance agents has been an unpleasant experience for me. I can see why they get a bad rep.

I get your pain. I went thru a lot of agents as well before
I found my set of agents. My agents are unit managers
and regional managers of their agency(I think that's
what its called). Only they survive my pagka kulit lol.

But my Manulife agent did confide in me that he'll
get peanuts from me.  ;D

What you want is what I'm doing with Manulife right now.
What happens is

1.) I get a billing notice telling me that my term is up
and to pay if I want to renew
2.) I log on to Manulife's online portal
3.) Pay using my credit card
4.) I get confirmation that another year has been paid.

sis, walang one size fits all. :)

Are you looking for mere protection? you can get a term insurance. If you prefer protection + investment, it's better you get a vul.

para po sa sun safer life, there is no need to undergo medical or evidence of insurability provided that the amount to be renewed is the same. kapag nagiba na yung premium upon renewal of the term, kailangan narin ulit magpamedical.

That would make sense since
they originally agreed to cover you for
x amount, if you want to add more then
you'll have to be re evaluated.
