question, plan ko i-enroll ang baby ko sa poveda when she's ready na sa big school. she's almost 3 now. with a super expensive tuition fee, practical ba?
To be completely honest, the kindergarten fee is outrageous. I'm a Povedan graduate, I studied pre-school in Miriam College then transferred to Poveda in 1st grade, the transition wasn't all that smooth but I think it was mostly my fault because it took me a long time to accept the move. That said, if you're a bit iffy on the tuition fees for kinder then I'd say it's not worth it.
But if you're referring to GS & HS then I guess that depends on what you're looking to get out of it? Perhaps this is a biased opinion, but Poveda's really grounded on their core values (excellence, joy, balance & harmony, etc.) and are very strict with implementing the rules, they make the seniors (4th year students) patrol the school during break times and dismissal wherein they "catch" or report students breaking the rules or not following proper attire, these students are called CSDCs, the reports are then forwarded to the advisers of these students and will ultimately affect their grades.
Bottom line is; this type of system helps develop the students' sense of responsibility and respect for the rules. One example of the rules is;
no ponytails on your wrist, it really sticks to you!
i unconsciously find myself following the same rules outside school.
There's also IW or individual work, I can't really get in-depth about it because it's very hard to explain but it's an activity most Povedans hate (ask anyone!), however, most of the time (from what I and my batch mates experienced) we end up really appreciating it because (without noticing it) IW helps the students establish a sense of "well-roundedness," and diligence, we can get things done on time -- and quick, with recommendable quality. if you ask a Povedan to do a project the night before that's due the next day, I can assure you she'll get it done, albeit she might have to sacrifice sleep haha!
Regarding facilities, well, Poveda isn't the most
high-tech school out there though the HS computer center houses Mac/Apple desktops for all students to use, each classroom has a projector, one/two out of four classrooms in each batch has a TV installed, all rooms are air-conditioned, our chapel is gorgeous (hahaha) and we have an escalator (which we never use unless it's for special events), a part of the fee goes to teachers' pay, which they increase every year, and that's one of the reasons Poveda has one of the best curriculums in the Philippines; their teachers often stay for two decades or more which develops their instincts in dealing with (specifically) Povedan students. They also send some teachers abroad to study (namely; Singapore, Isreal, etc.).
The downside to Poveda is that yes, admittedly, most students have a more expensive sort of lifestyle and the other less-fornute half would be inclined to keep up. There are bullies (but don't all schools have?), but there are also honest-to-god nice students who would go out of their way to welcome you. It's not a picture-perfect school, but those don't exist generally.
I think the tuition fee is worth it.
Other exclusive private schools (like Miriam, Assumption, St. Paul, ICA, etc.) are also great schools and I'm proud to say I have good friends from all who are just as smart and kind and well-rounded. Don't believe the stereotypes, they're called "stereotypes" and not
facts for a reason!
