hi guys, any feedback sa poveda? are they still using the traditional blackboard? with matching chalk? kasi sa notre dame which is my son is currently studying whiteboard na sila, based sa website ng poveda nakita ko sa mga pictures sa preschool still traditional blackboard pa din.,
 
bw, how much tuition dito for preschool? thanks

sa tingin ko sis mas maganda pa rin kung whiteboard na sana gamit nila since, ang tuition nila is P109k, my son's school is currently using whiteboard na,. kawawa naman yung mga bata na mauupo sa harapan ng traditional blackboard pag nagbura yung teacher masisinghot nila yung chalk dust, what if may asthma pala yung bata hindi alam nung teacher?, hindi ba masafe pa rin ang whiteboard kaya nga yon na ang gamit ng most of the school in town. well, its just my opinion.

you'll be surprised how many top schools in the Philippines still use the traditional chalkboard (i.e. Ateneo de Manila Universoty). and usually dustless chalk naman yan. plus the high tuition fee you're paying is because of the better curriculum and teacher.

it's very ludicrous to equate the quality of a school solely on blackboards. Or make a sweeping generalization on the state of the facilities in a school based on it. after all, blackboards are not the only facilities you'd see in a school. Oh I can name a school na whiteboard nga, super expensive pa ng tuition (way more expensive than poveda) but the rep of the school is tapunan ng kickouts. I can also give you a list of more schools, top schools in the PHILIPPINES, that still use chalkboards and are charging tuition fees way higher.

point in case, Ateneo de Manila. Ateneo prep now is at Php 120k+. Classrooms are not air-conditioned and yes they still use chalkboards. But how come a lot parents are still pursuing it. Some even send their kids to review centers to prepare them. Some would even go through the arduous appeal process if hindi pumasa. Why? Because it's one the best schools in the PHILIPPINES. Why is it with the lack with the 'high tech' facilities like a whiteboard, they still rank among the best? Go figure.

So why would I send my daughter to Poveda kahit mahal and hindi whiteboard ang gamit nila? They use progressive method as opposed to traditional teaching. their teaching is personalized based on the student's own learning pace. and yan ang binabayaran mo. it takes more effort for a teacher to do that than simply stand in front of the classroom and teach a whole roomful of students. And it takes a teacher with a different caliber to be able to simultaneously teach 36 preschool students with personalized lesson plans. What they may lack in the "perceived" shortcomings for some in providing whiteboards, they make up it in their other facilities. I'd say 'perceived' cause for me facilities particularly blackboards is not the be and all in rating the quality of a school. I came from an exclusive girls' high school who boasts to have the best facilities in the country (tagged by PAAASCU as "School of the Future"), but I was I was impressed by Poveda's facilities. It may not be as that 'wow' as my former school but it is still nonetheless impressive. You can arrange for a campus tour sis if you want cause sometimes there's more to a website.

Poveda alumnae go to prestigious universities (most of them to the top 4 -- UP, AdMU, DLSU, UST)  as well for college, if not in foreign schools. In MM, Poveda/Institucion Teresiana, like St. Paul, Assumption, Miriam/Maryknoll, Holy Spirit, ICA and St Scho to name a few, has been one of the top exclusive girls' school since time in memorial. Some parents in the province even send their kids to Manila just so they can study here (I have a friend who moved from Mindanao and had to stay with an aunt just so she can study in Miriam). Movers and shakers of most industries in our country come from these schools.

Like what I said using chalkboard should not be an issue at all since there is such thing as dustless chalk. Schools can also be proactive in it by ensuring classrooms are cleaned thoroughly everyday and by taking note which students are asthmatic so they will not be allowed to sit in front (kaya nga when you enroll you have to submit a medical certificate from your doctor). Besides whiteboards are not all advantages since there is such thing as whiteboard marker toxic fumes that can also cause allergy and asthma attacks to some teachers/kids, worse headache, nausea, light-headedness and even enlargement of the liver. There are also studies whiteboards cause eyesight fatigue due to the glare it produce; harder for those students who sit at the back of the room.

Every school has pros and a cons. And yes I agree with you chalkboard can be a con but it is not a big deciding factor when I choose schools for my kids. It's not a deal breaker so to speak. After all, there's more to that. Just my opinion.

^ well said hunny.  if poveda is still using chalboard, i sense it is because they are not the traditional school who just write the lessons and let the kids copy! this is more assuring for me, as it means that there are other learning alternatives and experiences offered by the teachers to the students.  But Poveda has very good classroom facilities as well as quality of education 

true, they have a special system - personalized education, that makes them less dependent on the board.  the board is just the tool, but not the vehicle for learning.

one aspect why poveda is expensive, they have limited students.  about 40 per class (in GS), and they have only four sections.  its lower number in preschool.

@hunny_ally, sige sis i'll take your advice for that, il ask hubby if we can have a campus tour sa poveda. my nephew is currently enrolled in ateneo hs, my niece naman is in miriam hs, i never asked my sister about sa prep ng mga to kasi mas prefer ko sana ang poveda. pero sige il ask hubby, schedule namin to. thanks sis.

Hello! What I know is, they don't have homework!  My SIL graduated from Poveda, that's the reason my MIL wants her two apos to attend school there. Tuition fee for the Toddler class SY 2012-2013 is already at 95K++. I don't really know what else they have to offer. When we went to the preschool dept for my daughter's testing (at the Segovia Bldg, if I remember it right). I noticed a banner on the wall that read, "zero bullying at Poveda." Or something to that effect. I did not have an opportunity to clarify this with the principal. So far, the facilities were very clean. The uniforms for the Kinder classes are really cute because they look like they're wearing pajamas. Unfortunately, I won't have the luxury of finding out some more about this school because even though my daughter passed the testing, our developmental pedia advised us not to let her go to school yet because she has a communication disorder.

^ that's what we were told nga when we went to Poveda. No homeworks for the kids. In fact no stroller bags needed since all their books will be in school. .  And I am glad to hear that they are implementing "Zero Bullying". Nakakatakot talaga mga bullies sa school. It can be very traumatic to the child. Thanks for sharing sis.

My daughter already passed the test and I really like their campus because it's small and they have less students compared to other all girls schools nearby.  I just want a reason why I should pick this school. Like where do they excel? What can they provide my daughter that other schools cannot give? I have been googling and trying to find feedbacks about Poveda but could not find anything that talks about the standards of the school...

I really want to send my daughter to Poveda. I have been reading from their site on Kinder applications and testing. Would anyone know if Poveda ever accept children outside marriage? do they discriminate?

I graduated HS from Poveda more than a decade ago. When it comes to academics, they are very good. A lot of their graduates usually go to top colleges in the Philippines. Majority of their students are from well off families, hence, lots of spoiled, materialistic, shallow brats. Another thing I observed is that most of their students are born and raised in the Philippines but some can hardly speak Filipino.

Yan actually worry ko din sis. We might be able to afford the tuition but we definitley cant keep up with the lifestyle of the students. How does the school deal with this?

^yan din concern namin. But I guess in any school (lalo na if you opt for an exclusive private) there's the fear of keeping up with the Joneses. I just hope na maganda ang pagpapalaki namin sa kanya and she'll be thankful for whatever we can afford to give her. Just to share, my daughter's yaya was saying na Meron silang kasabay sa bus (my daughter takes the bus service) who lives in a big house in Greenmeadows. Take note, may guard pa ang house who opens the gate and fetches the kid from the bus. Siguro naman with that setup eh they can afford to bring the kid to and from school in a car with a private driver and yet the kid takes a school bus. My point is the parents have a big role too in bringing up the child. if you let them have their every whim, eh di lalaki talaga silang spoiled.

Re on what the school does...My daughter is only in preschool so I guess the peer pressure is not that strong yet. But so far based on what I've seen, they are discouraged to bring toys (which is good cause walang point of comparison). Rubber shoes should be predominantly white. Lavish school parties are discouraged (2 types of food and candle blowing Lang).

Like what I said, it's my daughter's first year in poveda. I'm hoping later on I won't regret that decision.

^^re English speaking, I think most kids now are like that. Hindi Lang in poveda. I have cousin who went to assumption and yan din ang problem ng Tita ko with her.

I just want to share from one of my BFFs who enrolled her kid at Poveda. Ang sabi niya madami daw bullies (kahit naman saan meron). But, she said na kakaibang bullies that pati teachers doesn't seem to care.

Yung anak niya may some kind of ADHD ata (she's iin grade school). What happened daw that some girls would really gang-up on her child and have a bull session. May incident din daw sa classroom wherein the teacher literally did not include her dau in group sessions bec the kid cannot work well with group works. Well, tanggap naman ng friend ko na may ADHD yung anak niya (altho, mild lang), but to embarass her in front of the class is a different story.

I guess, the case is quite normal esp for exclusive schools. But, ang issue lang niya is why accept my child if that will be the treatment of teachers on her. Dapat nga, mas understanding sila since they cater to sped students. Re the bully issue, madami pa siyang kwento even with other girls in POVEDA daw. She felt, she has made the right decision, after 6 years at POVEDA, she transferred her to a Montessori school somewhere in The Fort/Makati. Her dau has made great improvements daw.

Yup, going to Poveda is all about keeping up with the Joneses.
I graduated elementary school from a school where most students were grounded, so biglang medyo culture shock nung nag HS ako sa Poveda. Daming natural na sosyal at trying to be sosyal. Daming boy-crazy na makameet lang ng mga ateneans or lasalle boys parang malalaglag na mga panty. Daming dito lumaki pero di marunong mag Tagalog. Nothing wrong with speaking English at all, pero hello, dito lumaki pero baluktot mag Tagalog?? Also, if u send your kids to Poveda, expect them to be into branded things.
 I was not bullied but I had a geeky, not so pretty classmate that was being made fun behind her back. Yung tipong gagayahin pag nakatalikod and people would laugh. This was more than 10 years ago, so things probably have changed. Although when i was still there, the younger batches seem to be worse.

Share ko lang experience ng friend ko. Her only daughter graduated from Poveda then went to Ateneo for college. Chika nya, puro branded bags and clothes ang gamit ng daughter nya. She won't even wear anything from greenhills. Once, her mom bought a gucci bag and she asked her mom why she bought gucci (its cheap for her). She also is not happy when they fly coach. Spoiled brat to the max. Of course, hindi naman lahat ng povedans katulad ng mga na-mention ko, pero i just want you to get a general idea.

To my fellow povedans reading this, sorry but it is the truth.
