Oh yeah, pahabol. Kwento ng male friend ko with povedan graduate GF. This male friend of mine is well off but very simple and down to earth, he would take the MRT or jeep sometimes. Yung GF nya daw, ayaw maglakad ng malayo from the car to the mall or wherever she's supposed to go. GUsto nya i-drop off sya sa harap mismo as much as possible. Also, the guy usually drives BMW or Volvo. One time, yung hindi mamahalin na car yung gamit nya, nagalit daw GF nya kasi nakakahiya daw. There was a time, wala sya magamit na car, sobrang nag away daw sila ang the GF said this relationship won't work without a car.

I have cousins who are from Poveda and they are not materialistic at all.  Two of them chose to teach, despite the fact that their first job after college (all of them went to Ateneo) was in the corporate world.  The other one is a resident doctor in a male-dominated specialization at Makati Med.  I don't see them as brand-conscious or maarte.  Note that they live in Greenhills and Greenmeadows so well-off sila talaga.  I just don't get the vibe that they're maarte or high-maintenance.

Nasa pagpapalaki ng parents iyan.  If the parents want to keep up with the Joneses, that is their decision.  If the parents want to keep their children grounded despite the presence of several wanna-be Joneses, their children will turn out down-to-earth.

I don't agree that all Povedans are brand conscious and spoiled. One of my closest friends went to Poveda from gradeschool to highschool and studied at UA&P in college but she isnt spoiled at all. Their family is very well-off too because her parents manages 2 gas stations in Rizal. She shops anywhere, nadaig pa ko na never nag-divisoria pa pero sya, she's been to divi and back and she's always proud of her good finds there. Nung bata pa sila and they were still studying, rewards system sila pag may gusto and it's not just handed out to them in a silver platter. When she started managing one of their gas stations, nag-gas girl sya for a week.

Marose and Hunny are right, nasa pagpapalaki ng parents yan. I know a few people who are like that). Not to say that it's wrong to be sosyal, if that's what they want and they can keep up with it, that's up to them.

I have 2 nieces who go to poveda. They're sisters and both started there at nursery level. One is graduating from high school this year.

Marunong sila mag-Tagalog. Pag family dinner, silang magpipinsan Tagalog mag-usap. My nephews go to Ateneo naman, meron ngayong grade school, high school at college.

When it comes to material things, their parents can afford and they do have branded and other expensive stuff pero hindi naman umiikot ang mundo nila doon.

I very much agree that the way the parents raise their kids plays a huge factor here.

Now my nieces who go to beacon, sila ang hindi marunong mag-Tagalog and they are struggling talaga.  But this OT here.

Each school has a stereotype:

Assumptionistas daw are conyo
Paulinians daw are tibos
Students from Miriam are tibos or boy crazy
Povedans are boy crazy, spoiled and brand conscious

And so on...

I'm sure someone who goes (who went) to these schools will react if Hindi naman totoo. Not because you came from that school, eh ganun ka na.

Yes agree nasa pagpapalaki ng magulang yan. Your kid wont ride coach and would say Gucci is beneath her? Bakit nagkaganoon? School ba ang nagbabayad ng first class ticket or bombard her with high end items? Something must be seriously wrong with the way she grew up. A wrong sense of value system that you develop if one's parents kowtow to one's every whim.

I've had classmates in college who came from Poveda. Admittedly, may maarte and usually with the way they talk (i.e. "Oh my God..."). But nothing naman to the level of being a brat (or Siguro Hindi ko Lang nakikita cause we're in school). One even surprised me na akala ko super arte, but during an outreach for kids eh this girl was very cariñoso with an orphan (to the point of hugging the kid).

I'm intrigued with Poveda, the friends that I have from here are all very smart and driven girls. I like that they don't bog down their students with homework and focus on developing the individual student to deal with real world situations (ie. managing your time against deadlines, etc). It's a strong contender as a school I want to send my daughter to. Downside lang is that its not co-ed.

My only wonder is, all my friends from Poveda all have a dream of being a housewife. I don't know why! Can someone enlighten me?

Me too, I am also very curious how do they pick students for kinder 2  for upcoming school year. And is there a color of envelopes that means your child is accepted or your child isn't.  Anybody from Poveda can enlighten us how to know a child is accepted. Nakakakaba naman kasi to wait for the test result for kinder 2.

I can't remember anymore if we were told right after her written test to come back for an interview or we had to go back and get a letter informing us of an interview. But after the test she had a group interview with the preschool head. Then after the test, the parents were called in one by one. I thought nga she did not pass cause I was called last. The preschool head told us the strengths and weaknesses of my daughter based on the interview and how we can nurture and improve them. Then after that we were made to read a some sort of contract (mostly about non appearance in tv and ads) then we were given the schedule for enrollment.  I don't remember getting an acceptance letter. Sinabi Lang that she passed.

Hi sis hunny, my daughter kasi nabigyan ng schedule last septber then after a month daw ang results. How about your daughter bakit sa amin iba ang processing? For kinder 3 din ba siya or for grade 1? .

^the interview wasn't done right after the test. I can't remember anymore if we were told immediately after she took the test that she has to come back for an interview or like in your case we were told to come back for the results of the written test and schedule of interview. Mum-nesia and getting it confused with the events for her Assumption test. I remember one of the mommies there during the group interview said that according to her friend once you're called for an interview sure na daw yun that the kid passed. Though they won't tell you after the written, the interview is just a formality. I'm not sure how true that is.

Because of the k-12, starting last year the levels are Pre-k (toddler school), kinder 1 (equivalent to nursery in the old system) and kinder 2 (equivalent to k1). My daughter now is in 1st grade (which should be k3 if k-12 was not implemented).

If I remember correctly it was a one on one test with the guidance counsellor. Usually at their age they should be able to identify and write letters and numbers (at least up to 10). knows the colors and basic shapes. Knows how to write their names. Would know how to read CVC words, well at least kahit phonetically. Usually these are things that you expect an incoming k2 to have mastered from their k1 level.

It would help to if you train your kids to answer in complete sentences. Like "What is your name?" "My name is..." Coach them on how to answer basic question like birthday, name of parents, etc

Hi sis hunny, for your child ba when you received a letter and she passed the exam is she on a waiting list  or in the letter they said that on this date you have to pay for the reservation fee. And how much did you pay for the reservation? Thanks!;)

^she was informed first that she passed the first phase of the application (exams) and she is scheduled for the interview at a particular date. There was no mention that she was wait-listed. Then right after her interview, parents were called one by one and we were verbally informed if our daughters passed or not. This was around January/February 2012. to add: I saw the letter from Poveda. We were informed she passed first phase on March 2. 2nd phase/interview was scheduled March 8. Enrollment was from March 13-16. I think she took already the test in January. Can't remember exact date but her AC exams was scheduled December 19 and I'm sure test in Poveda was scheduled after AC.

Baka they changed already the process since we applied back in 2011. She entered Poveda AY 2012-2013. And at that time there were only about 20 slots or so. Unlike for those who applied last year for this AY, they added another section so there was at least 35 slots. Mas madami din atang applicants. Also, meron silang wait listed status. A daughter of my husband's work colleague was wait listed too.

We weren't required to pay reservation. Diretso enroll around March.

Yesterday I went there and since my daughter passed the exams the lady on the registrar's office told me that we have to wait for october 16 then read some papers abput poveda rules then after that we have to pay na for the reservation fee. Kinakabahan talaga ako dahil first time mom ako ganyan pala kaba natin mga mommies hindi ako mapakali luckiily she passed.
