My own mother, admittedly, has a tendency to be a horror guest dahil saksakan ng pintasera. Eksenadora hahahaha

My daughter had her 7th birthday party yesterday and while it was successful and ALMOST stress free, naimbey ako ng todo sa daughters in law ng late stepdad ko.

So I invited the two of them kahit mejo labag sa kalooban ko, out of respect and consideration. I sent them a message and they both confirmed. Ako ang nagsend ng message ah. Day before the party, minessage ng mama ko reminding them of the party. Sabay sabe na hinde sila makakapunta with their own individual lame excuses. I was so upset because:

1. I was the one who invited them tapos hinde saken magsasabe mismo?
2. The regrets were too late.

One of them sent me a message on the day of the party. Deadma, I didn't even read it. I deleted it and blocked her on my messenger. Sorry, hinde ako mature eh.

I know Pinoys have this infamous attitude about RSVPs pero sorry hinde ko pa din pala kaya i-accept. Hinde lang naman to Jollibee party na wala masyadong damage sa bulsa mo or effect sa guestlist mo. Each plate has been paid for and there were so many considerations on who to invite kase limited ang headcount namin because of the small
Venue. Kabwisit. Che.

Isa palang horror guest. My own brother and his wife. My nephew is extremely hyperactive and he literally destroys things, hurts other people, and screams at the top of this lungs when called out. Literal, everyone was looking at theM. What were the parents doing? Nothing. And I was trying to hold my temper in because he's still my nephew and hinde nya kasalanan na his parents refuse to confront and to attend to his condition. When I talked to them to reign their kid in, nag inarte ang parents and sinabe na uuwi na lang daw. Then I walked away. Ayos diba? Ang tatanda na, pa-special pa. Sorry, they aint getting that from me.

^Tama lang ginawa mo. They can't discipline their child kaya dapat na silang umuwi kesa dumami ang damages.

^Nagreklamo pa yan sis sa mama ko after the party na nahilo daw wife nya kase super hungry na daw tapos yung anak nya hingi na daw ng hingi ng milk kase hungry na. Our party invite na 2pm-6pm. Hinde kumain bago pumunta. Nakakairita. Wala pa ko sa mood patulan kase I'm on a high pa. Pero pag nagkita kame, makakarinig talaga saken. I swear parang brainless lang.

^Diba nakakaloka lang talaga. Chaka bakit hinde ka kakain the entire day?

Just wanted to add to this because the thread has been very entertaining... :)

1) I have a probinsyano uncle who visits us in Manila once in a while and  no matter what mall or restaurant we take him he is never happy and is vocal about it. Super arte nila ng wife nya sa food (imo, ignorant is the real word) that we always try to play it safe with american or simple rice and ulam. One time the chicken came with a tortilla wrap, kala nya hand towel. And he had the nerve to tell me the next time na, wag na dun di naman masarap...ribs nga di rin natuwa. Di nalang maging grateful.

2) My MIL invited a friend to our wedding who insisted to bring along her daughter and her daughter's bf kasi wala daw sya ride if ever. I dont even know her and couldnt care less if they dont go pero isa naging 3 heads pa. Pumunta naman pero walang gift. Not being materialistic but you know, nagkapalmuks ka na rin...

3) People who confirmed to go sa wedding and then didnt show up.

4) People who expect you to invite them pero di pala pupunta. Ngek

Thank goodness, hinde naman kami pinalaking ganyan maski we aren't born with a silver spoon. Here are my list of horror guests:

1.) Yung pag nagparty sa house mga Tita/Tito namin, LAHAT ata ng kapitbahay imbitado din, akala namin minsan for our family yung gatherings, like get together/reunion ng Pasko and New Year so obliged lahat magdala ng food for potluck tapos imbitado nila mga kapitbahay nila and relatives sa kabilang side, like really???

2.) Sa balot and hakutan, wala pa naman ako personal experience ng nakakagalit, puro nakakatawa lang na nawitness ko like last Friday lang umattend kami ng Husband ko ng Christmas party, we're based abroad, in fairness apaw naman ang foods dito, to the point na talagang common practice na magbalot after, hosts pa nagbabalot for the guests kesa masira nga naman eh wala naman kami sa Pinas na sa kapitbahay mo palang ubos na handa mo, pero nawindang kami sa 1 Colleague ng husband ko, yung tirang food sa table kinalahati nya, 1 buong cake inuwe, kaloka! Hahaha! Natawa kami ng bongga, ayy gutom si Ate good for one week ang balot.

Or last minute magka cancel.

5.) Pintasera Queen and King tho guilty din dito parents ko haha, lalo na if hinde tender ang meat at sobrang alat ng food. Madami din ako relatives na ganito. LOL

7.) Ok lang sakin yung walang gift whatsoever, pero yung di ka man lang lumapit sa Host, bumati and magpasalamat, sobrang ill mannered ng mga ganyan.

Wtf.

Last 7th bday party ng anak ko. I paid extra 10pax para maaccomodate lahat. Sabay 4 na table hindi nagshow up. Wala ni ha ni ho. Kakaimbyerna. Wala na next time.

^And not to mention sis that you could've allotted those slots to someone else. I just really find it rude. There is nothing wrong with saying na hinde makakapunta, na-appreciate ko nga yung ganon kesa paasa.

this thread made me cringe so much...

yes maraming horror guests (those who RSVP but don't show up, those who extend the invite when invitations are non-transferable and limited, take home of food, etc)

But what made me cringe a lot is the expectations set in this thread. the common line is "ni hindi man lang nagdala ng gift" at hindi naman daw sila mukhang pera pero delikadeza naman..

but isn't the point of celebrating an occassion to celebrate? you invite these people because you want their company. Ganun ba yun? uy ill make this girl ninang kasi rich sya, maganda mag gift.. di naman close.

When my family was still living in the Philippines, we always got invited to be ninang/ninong/sponsor kasi everyone assumed may kaya kame. Acquaintances or even third/fourth degree friendly relations -- people we don't really have intimate relationships with but we could tell they are inviting us with the expectation we'd shell out money!!

When you ask someone to be a godparent to your child, understand that you are asking that person a role to help you parent your kid, especially if something were to happen to you. You are asking them a HUGE responsibility. In my view, ako pa dapat magbigay ng thank you token sa ninang/ninong kasi tinanggap nila ang honor/responsibility to be a Godparent. Ibig sabihin close kayo diba?? If you're not close why ask them to co-parent your child?  ::)

If you are throwing a party, you are celebrating something it means you want people to share in your joy, not people to shower you with gifts. I think this way of societal thinking needs to be assessed. Don't expect, but appreciate if someone gives you a gift.

If I were invited to a party (speaking generally) and i know there's an expectation of a gift -- i probably won't go especially if it's not in my budget. You have a reason to celebrate, and I am happy for you but giving a gift is always optional, a gesture from someone that is supposed to be heartfelt, not obligated.

Even if it's a children's birthday party -- parang i would want my child to appreciate the company of those who came, and appreciate any material gifts received, not EXPECT them. What values you show your child are what values your child will take --so they will expect gratification/reward just because they are growing up? :o

At my wedding our invitation states gifts are not necessary but appreciated..We also provided links to charitable institutions we supported. We are inviting you to celebrate our joy, not BURDEN you with cost because we have a life event. We also have a destination wedding so hiya na lang namin na gagastos na nga silang lahat to fly and hotel to our wedding (but at the same time we know those who are going really mean a lot to us).

cringe worthy yung rude guests who don't show up, bring extra uninvited heads, bring take home food, no party etiquette, etc... pero cringe worthy rin ang expecting hosts.. and, like for weddings, ginagawang ninong/ninang lahat para gawing negosyo ang wedding..  :-X

^pareho tayo ng opinion about gifts and ninong/ninang.

I don't go to a party just for the food (bad etiquette as a guest) and therefore I also don't expect anyone I invite to bring a gift (bad host).

And sa point mo nga sis can afford ka to eat what you want. Your time is precious and you took time out to celebrate someone tapos may expectation pa? Grrr

It's basically a business.
