Same here; on that day nag-inuman lang ang mga tito ko at mga kumpare nila at nag-videoke. Konting spaghetti na luto ko ang hinanda ko for my friends like I usually do on my birthdays before I graduated from college.

Well, my case was definitely not practical.

And yes, meh. Even if I have the money or if I can control the situation, I'd still skip the cotillion. Most debut parties I have attended may have been glam, but are awfully boring! Kung di ko lang friend or relative ang nagdedebut, or di ako marunong mahiya, I would have turned down their invitations.

I'd rather use the money to spend on something that my family, my friends and I can enjoy. We do not need to wear a cocktail dress and to dance with 18 boys to let the whole world know that we're maturing into full-grown women. :)

Dont feel depress about it. Sa akin naman I was in the hospital when I turned 18. So nung nag ka work ako every year umaalis ako out of town or outside Pinas basta ini enjoy ko na lang kapalit ng di ko pag debut.

Create ur good memories every birthday mo...pwede din naman mag pa birthday party ka when u turn 30...then gayahin muna lang yun theme instead of 18 roses make it 30roses,18 candles make it 30candles.hehe I hope i make u smile :-)

I have a close friend, pinapapili siya ng dad niya, kung gusto ba eh party sa hotel or kotse. Pinili ng friend ko eh kotse. Then boom, may kotse na LOL. kasi pag debut sa hotel, matrabaho, madami aasikasuhin kahit may event planner ka pa.

Ako naman, I celebrated my 18th bday sa house lang, yung bagong gawa ng 3rd floor, which my dad decided na magdagdag ng isa pang floor, sumakto sa birthday ko na tinapos yun. My 18th birthday was like kiddie party, I celebrated with family and close friends <classmates in h.s.>.

Ako, wala akong birthday!  :'(
Never kong naramdaman na birthday ko, kasi kahit gusto ko mag-celebrate with my friends and classmates before, hindi sila available. They need to be with their families to celebrate Christmas.  :(

Ako rin i didn't get to have a grand party when i turned 18. But my older sister did. Sa aming 2, ako ang may gusto mag ganon. Nadepress rin ako nun, pero saglit lang. My dad gifted me with a drumset tapos gave me money to treat my friends. But the details of that night, hindi ko na maalala. My mom knew how i love to wear fairytale-like gowns maski na boyish pa ako nun. Kaya sabi na lang nya sa kin non, hayaan ko daw, magcelebrate na lang daw ako ng engrande on my 25th birthday. Which didn't happen as well, i was already in uae hahaha! She's already 36, im 32, at naaalala pa namin. Hahaha!

On my 18th birthday, I didn't have a debut also, to think that I am the eldest and only girl in the family. I really didn't mind. I was in college then and my family were in the province.

I am now 28, and I can say that I had lived a good life.  ;)

I have a rich friend who did not have a debut dahil gastos lang daw yun. Meron din akong kilala na di pwede kasi may death in the family.

Both of them are ok naman ngayon. Honestly, once it's done, that's it.

Didn't have a debut? YES. Depressed? NO! :D

So here's  my story...

Before ako mag-18, i really (as in really) want to have my debut (yung engrande sana) kaso pumatak yun ng weekday (hellweek pa yun nung college! kainis!) and kahit i-push ko ang party ko may mga friends din ako na di makakaattend (because of acads) kaya di ko na pinush ang debut ko. nakaka-sad, oo. pero here's the good news here...

So, days before my 18th birthday (5 days ATA) sinurprise ako ng friends ko with my mom. i had a  Park Themed Birthday Party! nagluto mga friends ko then nagpicnic kami sa may Camp John Hay sa Baguio with matching games pa and that was sooooo fun! natouched ako sa ginawa nila :)

and on midnight before my birthday (since may exam the next day), nag-overnight kami ng friends ko sa Victory Liner Bus Terminal sa Baguio para magreview! ayun, naging Breakfast Themed Birthday Party ang birthday ko! ang saya din kasi i have my friends sa para salubungin ang araw na yun. :D

then my 18th birthday passed and i told myself na by 21 na lang ako magpapaparty (yung engrande na. LOL!) kaso...on my 21st birthday, (again) it's really not engrandeng party pero nakakatuwa ang mom ko! she surprised me along with my cousins (naging family event na din kasi sya) then ginawa nilang 18 candles rather than 21 yung cake ko! debut ko daw kasi. kaya kako FOREVER 18 ako! i also have my friends with me that day -- sleepover, kainan then chikahan todamax! ;D

and after all these things, i learned one thing...it is all about appreciation. :D

Girls, it's really not that important.  I never had a debut, and my younger sister did.  I don't think it had
any positive effect on my sister's life, or any negative effect on mine.

My husband knew about this, so he made sure we had a grand pre engagement party and bonggang wedding.
What more can I ask right?  At the end of the day, it is our attitude toward things and events that matters.

I grew up ok and when I got married I ask my hubby if we can have a bongga wedding. so sa pag-iipon we had a beach wedding. I grew up ok and now earning $$$ staying with my family. my lifestyle is good, may spiritual pinoy community kame and everything went well naman eh. nayon I have a daughter and i'm going to show her the value of money.

so cheer up....its not yet the end of the world. hindi pa yan 1st world problems. sabi nga nila masarap bumangon sa isang problem if u have conquered it ;) when your old, maaalala mo na lang yun and you just smile. :)

Imagine yung inggit na napifeel ko that time. Pero ginawa ko, nagsikap ako, ngayon, lahat ng frustration ko nung bata ako, bongga kong binibili maski minsan sobra sobra na ang gamit ko sa tutuo lang (shoes for example  ;D ;D So suggestion ko sa yo, since di ka maka-move on sa debut na yan, eh di magpaparty ka ngayon ng bongga, di ba?  ;)

Having a debut party is just a bonus, imo. It's not something that without it, you'll feel deprived for the rest of your life. You can definitely go through your life without this. I didn't even spend my 18th birthday with my family since I was studying here sa Manila but I still enjoyed it. And agree with nicoletta-- since my then fiance-now-husband knew that I didn't have a debut party, he made me experience a very nice wedding.  ;D
