@snowyice - actually, we already went to a developmental pedia last thursday. his dev pedia told us that he might be in the autism spectrum BUT since na-baby yung son ko, watched too much tv (as in adik sya sa tv), doesn't socialize with other kids kasi ayaw ilabas ng matagal ng lola ko, at saka wag ikulong sa crib nya. she is giving us the benefit of the doubt. she gave us 6 weeks to change yung environment ng son ko (meaning sa bahay et al) at saka to start therapy.

i can see some improvements na ever since we took some drastic measures like, dapat araw-araw sya lalabas, no more cribs (except when sleeping), socialize more, talk to him more, no more tv (as in no more). Before my son couldn't use a spoon to "feed" himself. Ngayon, he uses the spoon na and he will get some food and then isusubo nya. He can also wear his shoes with our help. May eye contact naman sya eh. whenever I smile at him, he'll smile back.

This is the reason why gusto namin ng 2nd, 3rd or even 4th opinion regarding our son. nag dev pedia shopping nga yata ako. may appointment ako sa 3 doctor na...Doc Mark, Doc Eusebio and Doc Falcotelo.

^when do you know when to stop getting opinions from doctors? i don't quite understand it kasi. madami din kasi akong clients na ganyan, sila they dont stop until they get the diagnosis that they want, which is, ma rule out ang autism. i have mga kids who pagkabasa ko ng doctor's reports ADHD (+) / ADD (naka hanggang 4th opinion na yung iba) ang dx. then a few months later sa check-up with the dev ped ayan na at naglabasan na ang mga signs. no choice nalang sila but to accept that the child has ASD. in denial pa talaga but part na rin kasi ng intervention ang counseling so i'm hoping ma-accept na nila soon, para na rin sa bata. why don't you wait sis til the child is a bit older bago ka magpa third or fourth opinion?time na din yun for improvement.

@dulcette I don't know sis yun ang sinabi ko sa friend ko ang tagal tineraphy bakit now lang nasabing baka hearing ang problem     ang dami ngang therapist ng anak niya parang 4-5. 

sa mga may autism na anak some told me na most child with autism ay may high levels of mercury and flat worms (not sure if this is the correct spelling ).  And one's you eliminate this mercury and so called flat worms you will see a lot of development sa bata.

I agree. When I found out that my son has autism, hindi na ako nagpa 2nd opinon kasi ganon din naman, gagastos din naman. Instead na gagastos ako sa check up, mas maganda pa kung gagastos na agad ako sa theraphy nya.

early intervention diba ang maganda? that's what I have been reading. my cousin who is a med intern told me na sige lang daw ang therapy kasi the earlier the better. I shouldn't rely on one diagnosis alone. we need to start him young sa therapy. what we will do is compare yung diagnosis ng 3 doctors then after a couple of months of therapy, dev pedia ulit.

I am in denial kasi I know my son but dahil denial ako, kailangan ko ma prove na hindi ganun ang son ko. so, sige therapy dito, check-up dun. kahit under observation pa lang sya ngayon at PROBABILITY pa lang ang autism, we're taking it seriously na. sabi nung first dev pedia nya, her diagnosis can change since my son has a different upbringing. So baka dahil sa mga factors sa bahay namin kaya delayed sya and anti-social sya.

Hi mga sis!
To start, I am an OT, so what i will share about autism are basically the red flags i see in the kids i handle. Please take note, i am not a doctor, and i am not authorized to give recommendations, etc.

Triad kasi eto (communication, atypical behavior, and social participation)
what i see in the kids i handle , and eto yun nagiging concerns ng parents mostly--> atypical behaviors( stim behaviors, playing with saliva, stomping feet, tiptoeing, spinning, flapping, licking behavior, injurious and self injurious behaviors, tapping, intense/singlemindedness about a particular item, say newspaper, books, or even blocks, different play patterns, etc) for communication (example: making sounds pwedeng babbling na age-inappropriate, not communicating, echolalia, no eye contact, unable to make request/demands known and resorting to crying,etc), and for social participation--> (not relating, parang deadma lang kahit sa familiar na tao, inappropriate social behavior, plays solitarily, etc)

madami akong referral ng kids between 1.5 to 2 years old. before kasi, may mga ibang parents na aabot ng 4 or 5 before magpapa-eval. I am happy marami na mas pro-active, pag may nakita na iba, early intervention agad. But again, take into consideration na  baka too much TV time, too much IPAD, no socialization at all, hindi natuturuan yun kid. Dapat ma-weigh in din

lastly, pasintabi, i know it is very difficult to accept that your child has ASD or possibility na may ASD, but in the end, what we want naman is the best for our kids (i consider my students my kids as well, even though mid 20s palang ako, kasi i see them twice or thrice a week and every  achievement nila really makes me happy and proud). It takes time to accept. If you need to talk to someone, there  are support groups, your doctor, your kid's teachers, and your immediate family.

Hand in hand yun team for kids with  special needs. Very important and integral member is, of course, the family.

ask ko lang kung at what age ba ng kids na masasabing free na to notice signs and symptoms of Autism? When the child reached 3yrs old masasabi ba natin na free na sila of having ASD. Usually signs and symptoms mapapansin as young as months old until 2years old very obvious na talaga na may ASD ang bata. Let say at 3yrs old roled out siya from ASD ibig ba sabihin free na siya para magkaroon ng ganung disorder? thank you.

Hi! My daughter was also diagnosed with autism. I was never in denial but fear ang naging kalaban ko. Nung una every night ako umiiyak kasi iniisip ko yung future niya lalo na pag wala na kami ni daddy niya. Now, hindi na masyado umiiyak pero still worried pa din. I do hope marami pa ang mag share dito para gawin na din natin support group.

Hello everyone, I'm still new with this forum..nag google kasi ako regarding Autism and luckily meron pala ditong forum about Autism and very recent and updates..

For screening palang yung son ko kasi for Dev Pedia...grabe pala mag palista...latest na yung July...eh April pa lang now..haays..eh dapat early intervention..better sayang yung ibang months...kaya eto super basa and watch ng videos sa youtube...

I suspect kasi may autism ang anak ko...going 3 na sya this July kasi...wala syang real conversation kasi...and di masyado interested sa mga tao sa paligid...picky eater...yung eyes nya gumigilid minsan and tingin...so isip ko may mga red flags sya...

Nung sabi ko bilis matuto naman ng son ko...he knows his abs, numbers (1-50 english,1-10 in tagalog fokien and spanish), 10 shapes 11 olors...he can identify it kahit iba iba pa order..he sings twinkle twinkle little star, i have two hands...etc...pero when I researched...ganun pala talaga mga batang may autism..they memorize well...pero they can't converse with meaning...

I'm still praying na mabago pa kasi baka din wala sya kalaro, lagi asa bahay..mom ko lang kasi nag babantay sa knya...im a single mom...kaya nalalaro ko lang sya pag uwi ko from work...haays...super hard pero if ever ma finalize and findings..i need to work on the acceptance...

I have a lot of questions for parents or mothers who has a child with autism. Nahalata ko this thread isn't that active and I'm hoping na may sumagot.

1. I read that if you have a child with autism, may chance that your other child/children will have autism too. Sobrang laki ba ng chance mangyari yun? Meron bang parent or mother dito who has more than 2 kids within the spectrum?

2. Is there a chance that a child with mild autism or high functioning autism can attend a regular school instead of Sped schools?

3. Is there a possibility that a child within the spectrum live a normal life when s/he grows older?

4. How do you deal with other people like your family, friends and people you don't know? How did you cope with the diagnosis?

I'm scared for my son pero I know I should be strong for him. I've been reading some experiences of parents with autism child but most of them are based in the US and magkaiba naman kasi schooling dito and doon. Some kids within the spectrum sa kanila nagaattend ng regular school.

Hi I'm new here so this is my fist comments/post. Just to share my experienced with my son. My son was diagnosed with PDD-NOS at 2 1/2 so now we are starting with his OT. Nung una kasi parang wala syang paki-alam sa paligid nya and if we call his name di sya lumilingon at ang red flag [textspeak!] nung I realized that if I point in to something he doesn't follow. At first parang ang hirap tangapin [textspeak!] yung future na gusto mo sa anak mo biglang di na pla but we have to be strong for them diba. What i immediately did is changed his diet to GFCF, as in walang dairy, walang tinapay, crakers, etc. Buti nalang most of our lutong bahay ay GFCF. I noticed that mas malumanay sya at he sleep well na rin at night. Then vitamins like cod liver oil, vitamin D, V6, Omega 3, 6 and etc tapos madalas na namin syang nilalabas at kinaka-usap. Ngayon medyo he looks at you na pag kinakausap then he can eat and drink by himself at wala na ring meltdowns. Good luck sa mga kiddos natin sana they are happy no matter what happen

1. Yes pero sa experience, rare. Naisip ko nga na mas mabuting magkaron ng kapatid ang cwa kasi diba isang concern ng parents ay pano na kung wala na sila?

Oo sis, he knows mga body parts, 3 colors, animals and mga simple commands. Sobrang hilig din sa t.v kasi nag work kami ng husband ko naiiwan siya sa MIL ko eh lagi naman pinagbibigyan kasi son ko pa mismo nagbubukas ng t.v unang apo sa side ng hubby ko spoiled masyado. He knows konting words pero [textspeak!] iba bihira niya lang sinasabi like apples,elmo and mga numbers pero [textspeak!] dulo lang nasasabi niya. Magaling na din siya mag bukas ng laptop mag isa kaya simula nung na alarmed ako na konti palang words nya tinatago na namin laptop, pero yung t.v ang hindi namin alam kung papano namin pipigilan.
