^^ hi greenpagong, thank you so much for answering my questions. nabuhayan ako ng loob when I read your post. one of my main concern kasi for my son is his education. I'm assuming you have a child or know someone who has a child with asd, anong process para makapasok sa regular school? regular school meaning with classmates na typical? my son is 20months old, he goes to toddler school na thrice a week and progressive school siya. the teachers are aware of our concern and they give us feedbacks about our son regularly. I asked our regular pedia rin kasi she has patients with asd who goes to regular school or mainstream. I haven't read about Carly Fleischmann's story pero I'll search for it now.

My son started walking around 14 months na. When he turned 15months we moved to a different house, bumukod kami sa parents in law ko. Ang nangyari sa set up namin, sinusundo na son ko ng 8am ng driver ng in laws ko tapos ihahatid samin mga 8pm na. we spend around 4 hours a day lang with him kasi nagwwork din kami. buong time pala na yun na naiiwan sa MIL ko anak ko, lagi lang nasa playpen and nakatapat sa TV, as in TV lagi. Kinakausap nila pero madalang. Medyo na-neglect din kasi namin son ko, I never bothered teaching him how to clap or wave bye. He learned to wave bye on his own pero nun na-gets niya yata na ang meaning ng bye is when he leaves parang ayaw na magwave ng bye. Biruin niyo nagkaron lang ng floortime anak ko when he was 17months na. Siguro nasa 20 words palang anak ko ngayon. He started pointing na rin pero madalang. Medyo bothered lang ako kasi he doesn't point when he needs something. Ang point niya lang is when he's interested in something. We thought my son how to clap na rin and he can do it na. He knows how to point sa light but minsan kapag pinapagawa ayaw gawin. He knows basic commands na like give, come here, no, let's go and get. my son has improved, 2 months na siya nag OT pero feeling ko minimal lang natutulong sa kanya nun kasi my son started pointing on his own. I'm happy din kasi my son's teacher said he plays with his classmates and he's imitating which is also a good sign.

^^ sis dont blame yourself saying na you neglected your son and the others too who took care of him. asd is really in the genes, and not about bad parenting.

hth! can't reply sa PM.

hi mga sis,

I've been reading about autism here in GT for a week now. I feel may autism yung son ng SIL ko. Pero yung environment nya is mostly nsa room lang sha, walang kalaro and kasama most of the day kung hindi yung yaya nya. My SIL has work and sh's not in good terms with the BF. Bihira lang din kami dumalaw sa kanila so we don't see the kid that often pero sabi ng yaya nya mahilig naman daw manuod ng tv...commercials at news ang gusto. as in tutok sha pag news ang palabas. puro Ipad lang ang katapat but ang napansin ko dun sa bata who's turning 2 this sept is hindi sha nag rrespond sa name nya..as in dedma talaga kahit na anong tawag mo. nakalakad lang siguro sha mga 2 months ago, yung talagang lakad ha pero pag naka paa naman sha, naka tip toe. hindi rin sha nagsasalita eh as in wala pa shang nasasabi ata na word..ay alam nya pala yung "coke" and minsan ata "papa". parang ayaw din nya sa tao. yung mommy nya and yaya lang sinasamahan. so since basa ako ng basa dito sa GT tinry ko i gauge yung mga symptoms kung meron pa rin sa knya and true enough ganun pa rin.

I don't know if it's appropriate to be pro active in recommending her to have her son checked. baka [textspeak!] ma offend sha..baka masamain [textspeak!] hindi naman nga ako doctor and medjo mabigat na masabihan na baka the child has autism. Ma offend ba kayo or ma offend kaya sha if I tell her this? baka [textspeak!] mashadong sensitive yung topic.

^ omg mga red flags yun sis. Yung pag tinatawag mo di sumasagot, you'll think may hearing problem but the child laughs with the tv. Walking on tiptoe din is red flag. Ask if the child loves to pile things up as in with passion, na kahit na bagsak na yung pinapile up, he'll begin piling up again, paulit-ulit na ganun. Red flag din yun.

I think it's better na madiagnose na siya early and magawa na ang necessary actions. Sa asd naman and other developmental disorders, the earlier, the better.

i was once worried also with my son..thinking that he does have autism. noon kasi, wala kami ginawa kundi manood ng TV. nakakahiya kasi stay at home ako, aalagaan ko na lang anak ko, di ko pa magawa ng maayos. ayun.. hindi namamansin pag tinatawag namin. parang walang eye contact. dog at cat lang ang words na alam. this was about from when he was 15 months up to 2 years old.

when he turned 2, nagbakasyon kami sa pinas and we went to his regular pedia. i voiced out my concern regarding autism. nung sinabi ni hubby na "oh, smile to doktora na" my son smiled towards pedia. sabi ni pedia, normal naman daw. then she asked me, "ilang oras ba ang tv time nyo?" dun nya na ako pinagsabihan. at his age, i-limit ko daw ang tv to 1 hour or no tv at all.

almost 2 months kami sa manila. wala syang tv time nun. when we came back dito sa middle east, i tried hard na 1 hour tv to no tv at all. kung ano ano tinuro ko sa kanya. naglaro kami together. wala pang 1 month, boom! increase ang vocabulary nya. may eye contact na. nagreresponse or lumilingon pag tinatawag. 2 months after pa ulit, he can count 1-20, say abc, and express himself.

I've been reading alot about asd and medyo worried ako sa behaviour niya.

SPEECH: He says few words palang and can't combine to form 2 word phrase.pag may need siya kunyari milk.. he will get my hand then drag me to the milk storage area. Same din ginagawa niya pag may need siya.
There was a time I went out saglit, he running next to me crying.. he was dragging me inside the house.

EYE CONTACT: he has a good eye contact, minsan nga ilalapit pa niya face niya pag di kami nakatingin sa kanya. pero pag sa ibang tao he will bow his head then hide. He loves too cuddle to and love niya makipag nose to nose sakin.

UNUSUAL BEHAVIOUR WITH TOYS:
na-notice ko lalaruan niya car the usual way.. tapos he will lay down sa floor to observe it. titigan niya yung car. I sometimes hear him hum yung parang kumakanta pero di ko naiintindihan.

UNUSUAL BEHAVIOUR WHEN WE ARE OUT:
Ayaw niya pumasok sa closed area.. dati sa elevator he would freak out.. but eventually iiyak siya then okay na siya. Pero say may bilhin ako sa isang shop, he will drag me out and he will cry hard  :'(
Takot rin siya magpagupit.. super struggle  :'(

OTHER UNUSUAL BEHAVIOUR:
He also hand flaps pag upset but not most of the time. Another thing na ginagawa niya pag galit is itapon anything na hawak niya.

I'm really worried.  :'(

Hi Sis IrisMarie, joining too. my son was diagnosed Feb 6 naman, a day after your son.
It was very devastating.. but I'm in the process of accepting it. Before the diagnosis, I know my 34 month old son has it. But when the devped starting writing the word "AUTISM", my heart was broken... Cried alot. Still in the grieving stage but my devped said having a support system will help alot. Nice meeting you and all the autism moms here.

I just want to share this podcast to all mommies here.  This was from a parenting summit sa church namin talking about parenting kids with special needs. I found this very encouraging: http://subsplash.com/victoryalabang/v/ade98fb

if you have questions, feel free to pm me, I'll try my best to help

^so true. My step son was diagnose nung nasa tyan ba sya. Sabi ng doctor hindi daw sya makakapag salita, di matututo sa potty train, etc. and he was 6 nung nagkasama kami and ang alam lang nyang sabihin spiderman and harry potter. Sa lahat yun lang sagot nya. After 4 yrs of being together he can speak 3 languages, na potty train sya and he is super linis sa katawan, he also has a good sense of humor.

I live in canada, but i dont know paano nila nalalaman, i think it has something to do with their chromosomes, but step son ko marami ring problem aside from being autistic. The good thing na lang na masasabi ko na ang batang autistic may part ng brain nila na sobrang active to compensate doon sa mahinang part so kung ano man yun pwedeng idevelop, like yung sa ss ko, he is so good in language, and music pati radio station kabisado nya, he performs in school, church, govt gathering, he even perform one song na kasama sikat na band sa montreal.

nung 2 years old palang son ko.. alam ko may mali sa kanya,. autism yun with all the signs ans symptoms. hindi sya makasalita, makaexxpress kahit mommy hindi masabi..
ang dami nagsasabi... antayin ko lang.... nag 3 years old sya pero wala ayaw talaga magsalita
at super salbahe pa...

(im like what?) nagpatherapy kami sa building blocks sa tapat ng festival mall sa alabang.. speech therapy was twice a weekand behavioral was once a week.. lahat sila nagsasabi NORMAL daw yung anak ko...
sabi ko he isnt.. sa dami kong mga pamangkin at bata around may mali talaga.. then nung natapos yung program sabi nila its dyslexia daw.. sila na nagsabi na ok na magstop ng therapy... by the way nung time na yun.. hindi parin masahdo nagsasalota anak ko..

then came my new bf... (that time) pinagtyagaan ang son ko... super patient nya sa son ko... then at 5 years old nagsalita na yung anak ko onti onti hanggang sa umok na... bumait narin ng sobra...

my son is now turning 9.. kasal nakami ni bf...   my son.. ok sya sa school mahiyain nga lang daw pero communicates well narin.. sa bahay mabait sya at super sweet na anak saakin..

sa tingin ko ang pagkakaroon nya ng dad figure made him normal...nung nagscout ako ng schools nuon, yung school lang nya ngayon lang ang nagentertain sa kanya, this is a normal school..(yung ibang normal school said ipasok daw sa special school....) binigyan sya ng extra attention from toddler to kinder 2 then at grade 1 parang ok na sya independent na sa school..
