starting a new career at 30

I guess we are all on the same level, career shift is always risky but be mindful that its all about the learning curve, honestly for me I am still  looking for my "dream job". I find it hard to look for the "right one". I've worked in sales, legal, operations, analyst and now as an economists. But still my heart doesn't belong here and now, I am eyeing for a financial position hopefully in the next two years. On that note, it's always a decision.

I agree that it's a risk but for sure this time around you are almost certain of whatever career path you are taking and will keep until you retire. I've been jumping careers when I was younger and when you reach your late 20's you just have that urgent need to figure out what you really want in your life. I've figured mine though it came late na but it's all worth it. I just have to look for a better company to flourish in my new career.

Too late?   Technically, no.    But finding another job may take longer IF you are aiming for the same/higher position in an established  company that isn't expanding sideways.    But for sure, you will find a job. 

Actually, a lot of management-level execs leve their companies for higher positions & better pay. Coz well, oo nga  if established na the company -- you gotta wait for someone higher up to drop dead to be promoted.  .

I can relate in all the sentiments, though I still have 2yrs before 30... I'm thinking on how to find a career coach that could help us all to map things out... Gusto ko ng bigger salary syempre at new career, kaso sa sobrang comfortable ko na sa current work ko ang tamad ko lang mag set ng plans, or probably, not a risk taker din siguro...

I know people have burned through "offers they could not refuse" without even knowing it. Age isn't the issue if you have in-demand and difficult to replace skills. However, keep in my mind that some companies have a promote from within policies and other companies don't hire over qualified people for lower positions. On the other hand I know some people who found work immediately in other companies no problem and they used the retirement pay for housing loans, bought a new car or started a side business. The safest really is try looking for work before you get your retirement pay, you might even get an increase during negotiation.

Hi! I'm 33  and I'm in the same boat. I'm in the banking industry and because of office politics stayed in the same level for 4 years. On the good side, I am earning well and my benefits are good. Good enough for a newlywed with a baby on the way. But I guess, emotionally draining na sa work. It is literally like working in an assembly line. You know the term na susulitin ka talaga ng bank? Long hours...Long lines...Working during holidays (HAIST!) This year I will be on my 10th year and eligible for our company's early retirement package. But I am hesitant still to resign as I still have employee loans which will mature sa 2016 pa. My husband and I are thinking of me being a SAHM or WAHM and I am very much open to the idea. So definitely will not work in a BANK anymore!

I would say thats a very good decision. Pero if youre going to give up your work now without a company to jump on. It would be very difficult to get another one immediately.

Marami na akong kakilalang ginawa yan, nag avail ng early retirement, kala namin mag reretire na after a month nakita namin sa ibang business district nag wowork na ulit at higher position and salary pa.

If youre jumping early, just be ready to be stagnant for a while. Even though we have a lot of establish company that doesnt mean they would hire you immediately. A big factor is the culture of the company thats hiring, usually they would turn down an applicant thats in their prime. Unless the position is a managerial higher up status, they would definitely look for age and experience.

i have a soort of relative who went through a lot. when her life made an unexpected turn at around 40, married with 2 kids, she decided to study again and be a nurse, her dad who passed suddenly triggered the change.

now she has a stable career. she's around 55 na. it's not too late and it's never too late,  even if it seems like it. her maturity to handle and balance her goals and passion came timely i think coz of the focus and drive she had for it.  so if you feel the need to go change something in your life just go do it.  i have friends too who launched themselves at a new career mid 30s.  sometimes it takes that much time to really find what you want to do in life and who you want to be in the end.

I'm turning 35 this year and I'm planning to study and change career.

What triggers me is my status now.

I got pregnant kase and Im currently in US on a tourist visa, gusto kong maging stable na dito and maging citizen. There is no other way for me but to get a working visa. Walang bang way kundi maging nurse for me and I think ok naman ako mag work sa hospital case hindi naman ako maselan. Some Filipinos here work in caregiver centers or nag nursing aid. I mean I might end up like them too if thats the only way. So since i have the means to study again at the moment max maigin nang mag aral para naman hindi ka lang maging katulong or nursing aid (there is nothing wrong with these decent jobs). Its not gonna be easy but I believe in delayed gratification eh.

I think ok lang naman to change career path anytime you want or kapag nadetermine mo that you have to do it out of necessity or doon ka talaga magiging happy. There are lots of stories na naging successful yung mga tao at that stage in their life kasi andoon na yung focus and commitment nila sa ginagawa nila.

Ang hirap Ng  competition. They won't hire you for low positions because you're overqualified/overaged even when the pay is good. They may not hire you for higher positions either because they would prefer internal promotions for that.
