what makes helpers stay is their own motivation, nothing else.

kahit gaano pa kaganda ang pay and other perks that they get from their amo, kung ang mismong

Yup, agree!

Also helps if you give them stepping stone nila with you and if proven na worthy (or may pangarap, esp yung mga teens/20s pa) they can study or finish school while with you. 3 of my maids have graduated during their stay with me (naka pagcollege pa ng 1 sem ng IT!). haha! Now, I have a new maid that I think is worthy, di nakatapos and siya ang next kong gusto ko maka-aral.

I am not attached with my maids pero I want them to have a good future not just forever like that.  Minsan, since I have a franchise business... pag nakita kong madiskarte, pinapasubok ko sa store ko as training din nila (if walang store, I give them assignment to schedule magturo sa mga toddlers)

Kaya my maids stay for years and we cry together when they leave.  Altho, meron din mga maids akong pasaway which don't stay for long pero yung mga matagal na sakin and loyal teach them about life na I have imparted (touching to hear that they like us).

Funny, but just recently my yaya of 6 years - nag-asawa na and ginawa pa akong ninang! hehe...my lil reward, I guess. :)

I realized after those times, dadating ang panahon hindi tayo mag rerely sa mga maids na talaga (ala US style) and I guess, we'll be fine naman and will get to find a way to live life.

I think, it is really more of your relationship (but, not too nicey and pa close) and when promising something we do it (ex. ipagpapaaral sila, or padalhan ng regalo pamilya nila).

sa experience ko sa ex-yaya na naging open ako, accomodating & somehow nakuha niya trust ko, this time im putting distance..correct me if im wrong, kahit gaano mo ayusin yung relationship with the yaya's or HH kung iba talaga ugali at takbo ng utak nung tao walang mangyayari.

WHAT MAKES HELPERS STAY?
1.  Di pwede pakialaman, pagsabihan. walang rules. kahit ano gusto gawin nila ay pwede.
2.  Malaki ang sahod, benefits

by the way, i rented an apartment for them, hiwalay ang girls at boys, kasama na din katulong at yaya...

goodluck!

^yan ang boss! makatao! ;)

what i'll post is something na nasa "what makes helpers leave" sana, kaso walang ganung topic eh. anyway, if has been the other way around, pasok na rin sa thread na to. :)

it was March 3, ages ago (di ko makalimutan ang date na yan >:( ) nung pumasok ako as a houseboy in one of the posh subdivisions here in Metro Manila.

bago ako pumasok, in less than 2yrs lang, there were 20+ housemaids na lumayas at di tumagal sa house na yon.

She and hubby were in their 60s that time, yung 3 unmarried sons living with them were in their 30s. sya lang yung bungangera. yung hubby at mga anak mga mababait naman, kahit na yung adik-adik.

so far, in my 3 months stay in that house, never nya akong tinalakan.

it's not always because of the sumptuous sweldo and the juicy benefits na tinatanggap ng mga katulong kaya tumatagal sila sa mga amo nila. malaking factor talaga yung how they are treated by the people they serve.

kaya i so, so agree with Kolinetongue.
treat them well... show them all the beauty they possess inside, give them a sense of pride... ;D and they'll stay.

because you treat them like barkada, hindi ba sila nang aabuso?

ilan ang kasambahay  niyo? do you agree pag mag isa lang ang katulong, mas hindi tumatagal. ang payo ng friend ko sakin ay hire at least 2 or hwag ka na maghire.  kasi hindi daw tumatagal.

Very nice insight ito, sis.  How long na yung maids mo ngayon with you with this kind of benefits?

I have had great and not so great yaya/maids.  The longest lasted for 6 years, 3 years then some 2 years.  Pero, I've had din mga as short as overnight either they leave or I really fire them.  My long term maids I have made them finish their high school kahit working with us (night school, sometimes TESDA basta once a week).

Pero, now... I've had good to great or great to worse maids.  I want to give a fairly right pay and growth for them pero your ideas seem nice but I'll have to weigh din if worth it sila i-keep.

How long na mga maids mo sayo with your kind of benefits? Tumagal ba ng at least 3 years?

oops, sorry sis, ngayon ko lang to nabasa.

how long? she's with us na for almost 5 years.  pero i don't treat her like this dahil matagal na sya sa amin.  This is the kind of treatment we give to all our househelps kahit 1 month pa lang.  But even so, not all of them lasted more than a year because usually I fired them.   ;D   We give fair treatment so dapat maramdaman ko na may "malasakit" sila.  Hindi lang sa galing magtrabaho talaga, kasi pamilya ang turing sa kanila, dapat maramdaman ko din the same "malasakit".

I remember, the HH na almost 5 years na sa amin, violated one of my rules.  Nagpatulog ng BF sa bahay.  She was crying when she confessed this to me kasi sabi nya, alam nya ang patakaran ko.  She doesn't want to leave and she's afraid na baka matanggal sya.  So I gave her another chance and so far she's been honest. ;)

So how to make them stay LONGER:

1. Talk to them, always.  Make them feel they're part of the family.  Make them understand that, just like any member of the family, their major mistakes can surely affect everyone.

2. Don't keep track of their minor mistakes.  Let them know you're not happy about it. Remind them to be more careful next time.

3. Set your rules right away.  They should understand why they need to follow.

4. Give them the benefits they deserve, including their health benefits.

Although, hindi nangyayari ito sa lahat, I know I am blessed to have this great HH. And sabi din nya, sa panahon ngayon, mahirap din daw maghanap ng amo who will not treat them like slaves.   ;D

For me is good treatment talaga, it sums up everything. Bago din ako sa pagkakaroon ng yaya kasi di naman ako nagyaya nung bata ako pero as an employer, mag-wa-one year na yung yaya ko  na galing pa ng Bacolod. Take note, andito kami sa Tuguegarao.

My dad would always tell me to be very patient with these people kasi daw, kaya nga "yaya" lang ang pinasok na work kasi yun pa lang ang nakayanan ng sitwasyon nila. Kaya ako, pag may pumapasok sa akin, they get the option to continue their studies. Hindi ako malambing or super close sa kanila pero I make sure na maliwang ang lahat. Pay is not a problem, she started at 2.5 din and now 4k na, wala pang 1 year yan.

So, all in all, kahit taga-Bacolod sya at dito sya nagwo-work, for staying with us until now, I can say satisfied naman sya. Just be aware of their needs I think. And she gets a lot of advice from me, especially financially. Swerte ko rin, di malikot kamay nya. So when you find a good helper, give them what's due to them. Hirap kasi dito sa atin, kung sino gumagawa ng dirty jobs, they're the ones who gets a lower pay. So kahit hindi nanghihingi ng higher pay si yaya, I see to it na hindi rin ako manhid sa aspect na to.  :)

For a maid to stay longer, we see to it that she's treated fairly and humanely.

But it would really depend on the maid. Nowadays, it's hard to look for someone who doesn't have the desire to go abroad or seek better opportunities.

pakisamahan ang tulungan [textspeak!]....may pamilya din [textspeak!] ang kasambahay so sometimes, this is her priority and the reason for her to leave.

^ IMHO, everyone has the desire naman for better opportunities, and we shouldnt deprive them of that. If given a chance, Im sure hindi naman mamamasukan as helpers ang mga yan eh, its just that they prolly dont have resources yet para makapag-apply abroad or whatev. Ang importante lang, as long as they are with us, dapat maayos ang trabaho and hindi lang yung nagsstay just because naghihintay for the sweldo para makaipon pang-placement, etc.
