Pre-school/Gradeschool in Makati

My kid studied kinder and prep in Smart reader kids, It was a fine school naman. Everyday they have assignments. We we're very happy with the teachers and the school yaya, Ok rin yung teaching nila.
The problem started lang last school year. It became saturated na, sa sobrang dami ng new enrolees hindi na ma attendan ng teachers yung students. Its also one teacher lang per class and 1 school yaya for the whole school na yun. Laging aligaga nga si yaya ang teachers kase hindi nga kaya sa dami ng students. The tiny place rin didnt help, pag may mga programs sa school like lingo ng wika maraming parents ang nasa narrow hallway nalang kase hindi narin kasya or ayaw nilang makipag siksikan na. Ever since nung nadagdagan ng sobra ng students the quality of education nag lessen na. They really should add more staff muna before letting kids enroll ng ganun kadami. Sayang nga, we really loved that school kase magaling talaga sila teacher, hindi lang kinaya sa dami ng students.

Mga sis im currently facing a dilemma, ang hirap mag hanap ng school for my incoming grade 1 kid. We live near makati, zobel, palanan and vito cruz.

the schools im currently looking up kahit late na are:
St Anthony de padua in san andress manila
St Mary's makati
San isidro catholic school in pasay taft
JASMS its an PWU for elementary
Ob Montessori manila - although malabo since hindi pasok sa budget namin yung tuition fee

Any feedbacks on these schools? Also if you can recommend a school around our area rin, Thanks!

^sis ILuvSheldonCooper: You can try Betty's Bellarmine School in Cuenca Street Palanan Makati. They have pre-school and grade-school, affordable din ang tuition fee. My youngest brother just graduated from Grade Six there and my eldest went there for pre-school.

I also checked the Christian Academy of Makati which is at Edison Street San Isidro Makati City. Same barangay as St. Mary's of the Woods katapat ng police station itong Christian School. The school was big, spacious but hindi ko na nakita yung classrooms. Gusto ko sana dito yung 2 older kids ko kaya lang di ako afford sila sabay. Baka next year jan ko sila enroll.

ako, im very satisfied naman sa 1st year ng children ko sa CGF Makati, so dun ko pa rin sila enroll this coming school year. 

Sis, anong grade yung mga kids mo? it will be our first year in CGF this june kaya medyo kinakabahan pa. My son will be in grade 1.

Sis stormy, I went there. Pero I cried lang. Kasi nag exam yung son ko if he's eligible for Grade 1 in Montessori but he's not. He's not a reader daw. Eh nakakapagbasa yung son ko pero word per word. Mataas siguro talaga standard ng IMC. Nakakahiya kasi the teacher told me infront of other parents. Sobrang nahihiya ako and I couldnt believe it na my son is not accepted. He's for pre-school pa lang daw. I tried to see if my son is indeed not good in reading so I tried the nearby Montessori school na much cheaper (30k). He wasn't accepted pa din. Frustrated ako that time. I didn't know who should I blame, if its me - kasi di ko natutukan anak ko, o yun previous school nya na school-schoolan lang. Iniisip ko baka he's not for a traditional school kasi the teacher who assessed him sa 2nd Montessori school na I asked, sabi sobrang hyperactive daw ng anak ko.

Before napansin ko hes really hyperactive and he doesn't have the patience to think and do well in exams, para bang gusto na nyang matapos lang agad pero he knows the answers. Pero I asked him while going home if he tried to think ba? He said yes, but I didnt know the answers Mom.

I dont know what I should do. Look for a school who will accept him? Have a tutorial class and try ot have the exam again in Montessori? or prep pa rin ba ang anak ko? Nafeel ko na nasayang ang ginastos ko sa previous school niya.

Sobrang sad ako.

Do you guys know any progressive schools around Makati/Taguig? Kahit QC papatulan ko na din kahit malayo. Parang he needs more attention from a teacher na dapat sobrang patient for my son.

Hi there! You can try purchasing "Baby can read" program or Your Child can read. It's not available in stores but sa TV home shopping. Mga 5K pero worth it. I bought My baby can read for my son at 2 yrs. and now he can read simple words at 3. Amazing talaga.....He know phonetics na rin. It's interactive, can teach him how to speak fast din. English ang mode of learning. Read him books before sleeping too. Kailangan din talaga ng parental intervention if you want your child to cope or excel. Also, para malaman mo if tama ang approach mo, pa assess mo siya sa developmental pediatrician para alam mo kung ilang months/years siya behind and what learning process he has to undertake. Kahit masakit, you have to open your mind to these things para hindi mo problemahin ang future behavior or academic ng anak mo. Para di rin trial and error [textspeak!] expert ang nagsabi. I agree with you sis. My eldest naman studied Nursery at Smart Reader. The school is okay. Maganda turo and they helped my daughter a lot. Naging friendly and very active sa school. And ang isa pang gusto ko dun is may uniform sila. Feel na feel ng anak ko na student sya.. Haha..

Kaya lang ang problema is yun nga, napaka daming students. For nursery level, around 30 students ang inaccept nila last year. Though the ratio is 1:10. Ang hirap kasi pag may school events, nagsisiksikan ang parents and students sa isang napaka liit na room..

This year, I transferred my eldest daughter at Kids Playlab. I want her to try progressive school this time. She's incoming kinder, by the way.. ^,^

my son's name is johann.  one thing i can rave about playlab: my son really enjoyed his whole year (nursery 2).  as in kahit weekends sinasabi nyang gusto nyang pumasok.  i also enrolled johann at schola progressio this summer (Read and Write program), then I asked him kung alin ang mas gusto nya, kids playlab pa rin ang choice nya .

in terms of effectiveness ng teaching method nila, its ok naman.  si Johann kasi after nyang matapos ang nursery 2, he can write his name on his own, he loves counting, and the most important achievement for johann is his speech development.  late kasi sya for his age.  and marami silang extra curricular activities for the whole year and mostly kasama lagi ang family.   and particular din sila sa values. 

ang nakita ko pang good points kay playlab is yung concern nila sa bata.  yung teachers sa kinder and nursery 2 ay anak ng may ari ng school. dlsu graduate and currently taking up masters degree.  based on my observation attached yung 2 magkapatid sa mga bata.

playlab have textbooks (math and reading).  andun lahat ng activity nila, aside from art. 

and for me, my expectation from preschool is not that high.  i mean i don't expect my son to be genius after ng preschool nya.  ang objective namin talaga kaya namin sya pinapasok is play and enjoy.  kung may matutunan sya bonus na lang un.  kasi he has minimum of 16 yrs na mag-aaral o magpaka-dalubhasa.  point of view lang namin yan na mag-asawa. 

naku napahaba na kwento ko ... kita na lang tayo sa first program nila, i think araw ng wika.  see you sis...

@sis ILuvSheldonCooper: ok ang san isidro konti lang kasi students. yun nga lang focus sila sa religion kasi catholic school. pero kung mag st, mary's makati ka mag st. mary's pasay ka na lang. they are ISO certified and PAASCU certified. para saken ha, mas ok ang st. mary's sa pasay. maganda quality of education nila.


dahil sa k+12 program gusto ko na sana ipasok ang anak ko for grade 1. kasi iyong ibang mga classmates niya nung kinder nag skip na ng prep tinanggap na ng grade 1 sa big schools. naiinis lang ako kasi when i tried to enroll him for grade 1 tinanggihan siya. sabi nung principal, knowledge and skills pwede na daw sa grade 1 ang anak ko. he can read continuously na kasi. he can read short stories etc. kaso he's 5 pa lang daw. he just turned 5 last march. kailangan daw kasi mag 6 na on or before september 2012 para matanggap sa grade 1. yun daw kasi memo ng deped. i'm quite confused mga sis. gusto kasi i grade 1 na [textspeak!] son ko kaso nga under age pa siya. actually siya talaga pinaka bata sa mga classmates niya. 2007 kasi mga classmates niya 2006 pinanganak kaso yun nga wala na yung mga classmates niya, kaya gusto ng son ko mag grade 1 na siya para daw classmate niya ulit yung mga dati niyang classmates. kaso ayaw naman siya tanggapin.

My son goes to csa..i chose csa over st paul college - makati..loyalty awardee ako sa spc but im really not a fan, marami akong hindi nagustuhan sa kanila..

Does anyone have a feedback for Colegio de sta. Rosa? It's nearer to our place than St. Paul's and mukhang maganda naman yung mga nakalagay sa website nila. I'm planning to enrol my eldest here for Grade 1 next school year. TIA!
