^ sige sis will try that. sounds promising! i just bought physiogel, cetaphil and the ointment for rashes. am hoping all of it would work. if not will try jergens ultra healing.

hi sis iggypop, go try it.. may dalawang klase ng jergen's ultra healing yung unscented and scented(ata un).. recently lang lumabas yung unscented.. kaya recently ko lang napalitan from scented to unscented.. anywayz, both are the same naman.. basta keep your child moisturized.. tpos pag nilagyan mo pwede mo lagyan ng powder para di feeling sticky si baby.. post ka agad kung naging okay ang baby mo.. Good luck  ;)

ay siguro wag nyo na lagyan ng powder, or if gusto nyo talaga, use the corn starch kind.... remember, powder isn't encouraged anymore because of its bad effects to a child's respiratory system...

Actually, sis, matagal ng meron ng unscented or fragrance free version ng Jergen's ultrahealing. I've been using it and prescribing it for more than 5 years na : )
It is better/safer to use the fragrance free version for kids.
And tama si sis Delisyus, no powder dapat kasi it can cause lung irritation.

Oh how I hate skin asthma, it attacks me on extreme weather conditions, if it's too,too hot and if it's too, too cold. so afraid that my two daughters will inherit that.

mga sis, have you tried using organic skin care for your skin asthma?  my son has atopic dermatitis and really prone to skin rash, now sobrang minimal na rash nya, organic kids care works for him!  im using human heart nature, then midori for him.

^The first time we tried Human Nature, my baby's atopic dermatitis worsened.  Even my hands got very dry tapos nagkasugat-sugat especially sa knuckles (kahit wala akong atopic dermatitis).  We tried it again after a year and a half (after my baby's and my skin improved), but this time diluted na (in water) and sa hair lang ginagamit.  I use Dove Baby for her skin.  Human Nature still makes my hands dry but we use their products anyway dahil nga organic.  We just moisturize regularly.  Love Jergens Ultra Healing too (for myself)!

I was browsing this and the allergic rhinitis thread and realized lang na it's what my niece has (although yung parang skin asthma nya is usually more really dry, really rough and itchy skin) which worsens when she gets cold or her skin gets dry... but she doesn't complain that much naman, she just scratches... and yun nga, rough yung skin nya when you touch it

and sa AR naman, she starts sneezing kasi when she gets cold din... and every morning after waking up, she is on a sneezing frenzy and lamigin pa sya... but otherwise, she's fine

now... her mom kasi just applies lotion to her skin but other than that, wala syang allergy management... I mean she still eats everything (and she feasts on egg yolks like crazy, fave nya din ang cheese and other dairy products) and since she's 4.5 years old, kahit bawalan to handle dusty things, she plays anywhere and with everything...

they also use powder... and she plays with that too :)

am just curious though.... magkaron kaya ng repercussions yun for her? will it progress kaya to asthma (both her parents have AR and had skin asthma as kids)? I can't say din naman na it's really affecting her quality of life kasi the sneezing stops naman after a while and well, mukha namang sanay na sya sa itchy skin nya...

^ Let me try to answer your concerns regarding your niece:
A. Eats egg yolks like crazy
Actually, egg yolk is not very allergenic. It is the egg white that is more allergenic than egg yolk and chicken combined. That is why it is not advisable to introduce egg white before 2 years of age. Egg yolk can be introduced as early as 10 months of age.

B. She is ok but she has sneezing fits each morning when she wakes up and is fine through out the day
She sneezes in the morning because that is probably the time when her allergens are most predominant. Usually those who have allergic attacks at night time or early morning is allergic to house dust mite.
It goes away through out the day because the presence of allergens diminish.
If it is occurring daily, then her symptoms are already persistent and warrants an Allergy consult for identification of Allergens/triggers and allergy management.

c. Can it lead to Asthma?
With the information you gave, yes, it can lead to asthma if her allergic rhinitis and skin asthma are not well controlled. We call this the Allergic march.

d. Complications of Allergic rhinitis
In reality, there are more patients with Allergic rhinitis compared to patients with asthma. However, most patients ignore Allergic rhinitis since they say it is just "sipon" and consult only when complications arise as a result of persistent or poorly treated Allergic rhinitis.
These are the complications of Allergic rhinitis:
1. Frequent ear infections
2. Frequent allergic conjunctivitis or allergic sore eyes
3. Frequent tonsillitis with persistent enlargement of the tonsils due to post nasal drip and may lead to sleep apnea later on
4. Frequent sinusitis
5. Asthma

Allergic rhinitis and asthma are lifelong diseases, but the symptoms can be controlled with proper patient education, treatment and identification/avoidance of triggers.
Oh and by the way, yesterday, July 8 was the celebration of the National Allergy Day.  ;D

^ thanks for the very useful info sis letmd.

my son has allergic rhinitis that progress to asthma, usually during change of weather.  we have managed it so far now.  we used to be in montelukast when he was younger, but were happy that he was off meds for the past year.

his skin itches and rashes, even with the scalp was also adressed by using all organic products, like soap, shampoo, bug spray.  we dont use powders or colognes.

thank you leletmd... I was telling hubs nga about this thread and how our niece has allergies but I'm not sure if I should encourage his parents to already manage the allergies kasi yun nga, sa kanila, 'tuwing umaga lang naman' or 'pag maalikabok lang'

I mean, parang sanay na sila and it doesn't help na MIL says na ganun talaga ang lahi nila (all of hubs siblings and cousins kasi had/has one form or another of skin asthma, AR, asthma, atopic dermatitis) and ganun din daw yung skin nung dad when he was young... am guessing they believe my niece will outgrow it lang like they did.

^ Mahirap kasi makialam pag ganyan. The parents have to be willing to bring in their child for a consult. Otherwise, most likely, hindi nila ibabalik ang patient after 1 consult.

thanks sis leletmd for enlightening us...

my daughter's pedia prescribed montelukast too for her allerghic rhinitis. it was effective during the time she was taking them (3 months). pati skin asthma niya nawala. but after a few months, bumalik both AR and skin asthma. i don't want naman my daughter to be forever on medication kaya am still researching for an alternative cure.

but you're right sis leletmed, i think AR and skin asthma are lifelong diseases. i might bring my daughter na to an allergenist (?) para at least ma-identify namin the allergens.

awa lang ako sa daughter ko kase like now, before she fell asleep haching ng haching and blow ng nose, nagco-complain na masakit na daw nose nya. hanggang she fell asleep na. wawa naman...

oops OT na ata, medyo related pa din naman  ;D btw mukang effective the physiogel, cetaphil and the ointment. nag-dry na yung rashes ng daughter ko. i hope tuloy tuloy na mawala...

^ Cetaphil is readily available in Mercury Drug stores. It is also available in most supermarkets and in Watsons.

I prefer to use the Cetaphil liquid cleanser over the soap though kasi after a while, the soap gets misshapen (it's not as easily melted like Dove pero feel ko mas sulit yung liquid soap and easier to use)...
