Skin Asthma treatment

my husband has skin asthma. namamana ba yon? iniisip ko kasi baka manahin ng baby ko. sa november pa ako due, sana naman hindi niya manahin.

anyway, have you tried using a humidifier in an air-conditioned room? we bought one last week lang and my husband said hindi na siya nangangati because of it.

^ Yes, skin asthma is hereditary, especially if both parents have a family or personal history of allergies like asthma, allergic rhinitis and skin asthma or atopic dermatitis.
Exclusive breastfeeding in the first 6 months of life has been shown to help prevent the development of skin asthma as well as respiratory allergies. There are some studies also that probiotics may help prevent the development of skin asthma, but for it to work, the breastfeeding mom should take probiotics as soon as breastfeeding is started in early infancy.

skin asthma doesn't run in my side of the family, only in my husband's. but my brother and i have bronchial asthma naman.

sana wag naman manahin ng baby both kinds of asthma.

we've consulted our son kasi to a pediatric-derma yesterday dahil sa rashes nyang pabalik balik pero sa face lang naman. Findings: Skin Asthma daw. Sabi ng derma, maaari daw nakuha ng baby ko sakin, meron kasi ako bronchial asthma when i was younger.

my question po, possible po ba un? na kahit bronchial sakin, pwedeng skin asthma naman kay baby? at ito pa po, nag reseta sya ng nizoral cream, safe po ba un sa babies 3months old & a half? hehe. sorry po ha, I just wanted to make sure lang kasi, mahirap na..

^ Skin asthma, bronchial asthma and allergic rhinitis are all inter-related allergic diseases, so, yes, it is possible for a child to inherit the parent's allergies and manifest as 1 of the 3. There's a higher chance of a child inheriting the same allergic disease though. 
It is also possible that a child may manifest first with skin asthma then develop bronchial asthma and allergic rhinitis later on. We call this the allergic march.
Anti-fungal creams/ointments are to be used with caution in infants. They should only be used as prescribed by a doctor. In your case, you have to follow the instructions of the pedia derma regarding usage and don't use it without her advise.
Why was your baby given Nizoral cream? Is there a super-imposed fungal infection?

anyway, i did not mention po pala na sabi din ng derma, it might be seborrheic dermatitis lang daw pero since nga I had history of bronchial asthma, malaki possibility na skin asthma nga daw itong kay baby. nalilito ako. We tried na physiogel cleanser and cream, momate and elica cream but then, meron pa rin. minsan nawawala sya pero after 2-3days, babalik na naman. Ngayon po, wala na akong nilalagay na cream.

Yes po, derma found some fungi manifestation pero in some areas lang naman po. kaya nga po hesitant akong maglagay kasi parang masyadong matapang naman yata yang nizoral cream na iyan.

^ Ok, magkaiba ang areas affected ng seborrheic dermatitis and atopic dermatitis (skin asthma) in infants. The rashes of seborrheic dermatitis occupies the oily parts of the head and face and consists of crusty oily flakes/plaques while in atopic dermatitis, the areas affected are usually the forehead, the cheeks, and the chin, sparing the nasolabial areas. The rashes are usually red circular scaly plaques. It is also very itchy.
Pabalik balik ang both conditions. Sometimes, seborrheic dermatitis may resolve on its own. Sa atopic dermatitis, you need to find the trigger. In young infants less than 6 months of age who's drinking milk formula, cow's milk ang una naming suspect since cow's milk is the first allergen that the baby encounters.
Momate and Elica are the same type of steroid cream/ointment. Magkaiba lang ng brand.
With regards to Nizoral, use it lang as directed by your pedia derma. Your pedia derma would know naman when to stop it.

Hi i myself have skin astma when i was young as in pabalik balik kami sa derma. Pangit ng legs ko nun kasi dami sugat tapos di naman nagagamot ng kung ano-anong gamot na ang mamahal pa. Until sabi ng mom ko sa derma kung may iba pa bang paraan. Ayun a cheap way to cure it daw is by using tawas. Yung tawas na bato yun ang binababad ko sa warm water after ko maligo yun ang panghuling banlaw ko. Nawala lahat ng sugat at peklat ko. As in gulat pati relatives namin kasi ang laki ng pinagbago ng skin ko. Pati pinsan ko ngayon ganun na rin ginagamit. Di ko lang alam kung pwede sya sa babies.
A friend of mine na may organic skin care products also uses tawas as an ingredient sa products nya kasi proven din nila kasi yung partner nya na may skin asthma gumaling sa organic products and isa na yung tawas dun. Goodluck mga mommies!

My son has this sort of rashes din sa body nya. sa neck sa armpits sa knee behind nya sa likod. sabi mild skin asthma daw. He's always itchy lalo na pag mainit at pinagpapawisan. Elica din ginagamit namin pero he doesn't like it na mahapdi daw, Powders don't work na din. Super init pa naman sa pilipinas. Kawawa naman siya of forever yung ganun. Pag binibigyan ko siya ng benadryl nawawala [textspeak!] itch.

I'll try to use oilatum and cetaphil. Other than that what else do you suggest?

My daughter was diagnosed with skin asthma just today sa pedia derma sa pinas.

Napansin namin early this year yung mga dry patches and white spots niya sa balat early this year. Although di naman itchy, still sagwa sa balat. Pinatingnan namin sa GP dito sa SG and gave us anti-fungal ointment. Kuminis nung una pero balik na naman after sometime kahit Cetaphil na ang gamit niyang sabon.

June this year nung umuwi kami sa pinas, pinatingnan ko na sa pedia niya, and binigyan ng Elica cream. Then Physiogel lotion, tapos Dove unscented.

Pagbalik namin, nagworsen, dumami yung dry patches sa legs niya so pinatingnan ko na naman sa pedia dito at nagbigay na naman ng ointment.

Then napagtanto ko na may steroids yung mga ointment na binibigay so stop ko na. Bumili ako nung Avent magic cream, Avent liquid talc para di na siya mag baby powder. Pero sad to say not effective pa rin.

Ngayon nasa pinas siya and pinadala ko na talaga siya sa pedia derma. Dun nga naconfirm na skin asthma nga. Kaso wala naman binigay na gamot, recommend lang cetaphil, then lagi daw imoisturize yun balat, wag i-rub, and lotion na as much as possible, mild lang din.

I'm glad I've found this thread, ita-try ko rin yung aveeno papabili ako sa pinas kasi wala dito sa SG. Sana effective, then if not try ko naman mga organic para talagang mild as recommended by a friend.

Para wala talagang gamot para dito, hiyangan lang sa mga mild products na ipapagamit.

Change your bedsheets and pillowcases often, especially if your child is pawisin. If pawisin kasi, maraming dead skin. The dust mites come out at night to eat our dead skin, which is why most of the attacks of itchiness and asthma/allergic rhinitis attacks occur at night time or early morning (if allergic to dust mite).
Last rinse should be hot water to kill the dust mites. No fabric softeners. No powder/ no cologne.
Try to identify his triggers so you'd know what to avoid. Skin asthma has both allergic and non - allergic triggers. Sweat is their greatest irritant. It makes their skin very itchy.
Bathing should be less than 20 minutes. No scrubbing/rubbing. Use mild soap only.
Most of all, moisturize his skin often with mild lotion like cetaphil, aveeno, etc. The best time to apply the lotion would be right after taking a bath when the skin is still damp.
If getting persistent and cannot be controlled, seek the help of an allergist.
Skin asthma can be managed with careful identification of triggers, avoidance of trigger factors, good skin care and gets better as the child ages. Sometimes lang, it can lead to the development of respiratory allergies, such as Asthma and allergic rhinitis.

try physiogel cream (not lotion), it has made wonders to my baby's skin. we've tried almost every brand of lotion even the expensive ones like thermale - P1,800 per small tub) but to no avail. sa physiogel lang talaga naging smooth ang skin nya.

icee_star, pau ang aveeno nag work kay kyle.. white patch na bilog bilog din na parang may goose bumps.. ganito din ba kay J? nagwork ang aveeno sa kanya.. meron pa akong aveeno calming lotion sakin.. let me know if you need it..

May 3yr old daughter din has this allergy, walang lamok sa amin pero ang dami niyang mga red spots so we bought new bed mattress for her the one with protected for dust mite at may sanitizer ang bed, then every now then super linis ako ng room namin at ng house na rin.

kakainis! nagflare up skin asthma namin ng 2 yr old daughter ko. i think it's because of the weather. super kawawa daughter ko kasi mas grabe yun kanya - nag chicken skin na naman yun tummy, chest and back area niya. hay...

i think my daughter's condition is leading to this pero hindi pa naman yata considered as asthma.. basta she has dry itchy spots sa back of knee, back of elbow, wrists..she's also on montelukast and allerkid, tapos i put cetaphil cream, and also the more expensive one an nireseta ng pedia Ezerra cream. ang hirap nga eh..kasi mawawala lang sandali tapos babalik na naman.. maybe ill try the Physiogel cream naman next time.
