hi sis! im hotpotato (i use this username more frequently kaya eto na ginagamit ko main acct), thanks for the info i already heard in another forum na its better for you to be in Perth already before scouting a unit/house. so ganun pala talaga ang policy. kayo ba sis when you first came in to Perth, how was your setup? kami naman kasi ang concern ko yung titiran namin for the first few weeks, kung maghahanap pa lang kami ng bahay pagdating namin ng Perth, ndi ko alam san recommended place to stay while hindi pa kami nakakakita ng matitiran.

Hi sis, I understand your dilemma.  Why don't you try searching for short-term lease muna?  They're less strict for those but more expensive.

My hubby's company arranged for our first house here in Perth.  We moved out after a year to our own house.

hi sis teeyah. gaano ba katagal yung visitor at ano reason of visit? my mom's visa just got approved for 1 year single entry kasi I need someone to help me when I give birth.

what's the purpose of your visit sis? ite-take into consideration nila yun, at syempre evidence of funds na masusuportahan mo sarili mo dito (or someone here can support you). imporatant din na may incentive to return ka sa pinas (like a permanent job, business, studies, property, family, etc.). visit m sis yung DIAC website, andun lahat info and documents you will need to submit.

I will visit the DIAC website na lang din I was just worried baka kasing strict ng US Embassy ang Australian embassy kasi nakakatrauma sa US Embassy kahit complete na ng documents

Mga Sis, i just checked my phil driver's licence and will expire soon.  just curious if it's easy to obtain a driver's licence here in Au preferably in Melbourne and is it advisable to undergo at least 1 hour of driving lesson before taking the actual driving test? i just heard from someone who has almost 20 years of driving experience in phils failed the actual test just because he didn't took a lesson.

btw, i am 457 visa holder and been driving for 4 years in phils and almost a year now here in Au.

any tips and suggestions please? thanks a lot!

^ correct me if I'm wrong, pero ang alam ko you cannot apply for australian drivers license until PR ka, kaya check mo muna sis.

^ do you have to take the practical driving test? in nsw there are levels of licenses and when i had my practical test going from learners to provisional when i was 18 i had driving lessons. since you know how to drive already maybe you should just have one formal lesson so you are fully aware of all the formal road rules. some people may know how to drive but it's the little things that may catch you out in the exam!

^^thanks Sis pilates, pwede kahit 457 visa, ang difference lang pag 457 i can still use my phils driver's licence basta hindi pa expired, unlike pag PR 3 months lang yata valid. yun nga lang i have no choice but to apply for a new driver's licence here since my phils licence will expire 1 month from now.

^Sis selly, yes it's a must here in Melbourne to take the practical driving test.  siguro nga mas ok to have formal lesson.  thanks for the advice.

I suggest that you take the driving lesson since there are a lot of bad habits from Pinas na hindi acceptable dito and the driving instructor can point that out to you. Maganda din kung iyong driving lesson mo ay at least a week before your exam. That way makakapractise ka pa on your own ng acceptable ways nila dito.

Sangkatutak na head check at mirror check ang gusto nila for the exam.

Hindi naman kasing strict ng OZ ang US embassy.  goodluck!

May bahay na kami dun but wala pa furniture and all, do you think better sama ko kids with me sa OZ? or iwan ko muna 1 kid sa asawa ko.

What do I do after I get the house , tenant vacated already....

Here are my priority though:
1. electricity and gas- do you know of any company?  Can I apply via internet for connection?  How long does it take?

2. where to find locksmith, I have my own lock and key kaya lang di ako runong kabit e

3. where to find affordable beddings?

^Sis, is this a rental?  If so, you can't change any of the locks at all.  In fact, you can't put in anything new in most cases -- not even hooks for picture frames, barrel bolts, etc.  Super strict sila sa ganyan.  You'll get a property condition report detailing all fixtures, paint colors, etc. to make sure you leave the house in the same condition when your lease ends.

If this is your own house, I think it is best and cheapest to source a local locksmith -- check the community paper's classifieds.

For utilities, if the rental is being handled by a real estate agent, they would put you in touch with a consolidator which can re-connect all your utilities.  In our case, since it wasn't a new connection, the consolidator company just transferred the accounts to our name for billing and communication purposes. 

Affordable beddings -- KMart, Big W, Target.

Good luck!  Moving in is hard work so you'd need your hubby's help.  Downside is your kids will have to live on an empty house for a few days
