I tried cycling at CamSur during the AdCongress and I loved it! My boss used to send me to cover Immuvit cycling events but the bikes they used there were as expensive as cars so I didn't really get into it but it was a different experience with the "cruiser" bikes in the AdCon. Very fun to play with and go around! I loved it so much to the point that I'm seriously considering getting matching cruiser bikes for the boyf and myself

Update: I was able to purchase two cruiser bikes already just last Sunday! They look like the big Japanese bikes but so fun to ride on! Thinking how to accessorize mine though like repainting etc to make it look more fun. Any suggestions?

Also, rode around UP yesterday for a good 2 hours! Super fun! I can wholeheartedly recommend cycling to everyone; even the non-athletic / non-competitive types!

I'm interested in getting a Japanese bike. Any shop recommendations for decent priced ones? I live in QC. Gusto ko lang kasi sana makapagbiking around the village and also around UP. If i opt for an MTB, ok lang din kaya kumuha ng Japanese surplus/recon bike?

My sis on the other hand mentioned a couple of times that she'd really like to try off road mountain biking. Aling orgs/groups kaya ang magandang salihan niya para dito? Also, please provide price range ng decent MTB for beginners. Sa Cartimar na nga ba ang pinakamurang shop?

@gulaysk, for those Japanese bikes, I think most of them are decently priced.  Unless you think 2.5-5k is very expensive.  If you really want cheaper than that, then you'll have to scout out those surplus bikes in Pier area in Manila or some warehouse-like shops.

As for MTB, a trail worthy entry level bike can be had at around 12-15k.  Brand new and popular brand na yan.  Is Cartimar the cheapest?  Not necessarily.  But if you live near there, it may be the most convenient and have a more than decent choices.  Quiapo is another good choice.  Personally, I choose convenience and after sales service over cheaper price.

For Mt. Biking groups or orgs. to join, I would refer your sister to check out these sites...

PMTB - Pinoy Mt. Bikers
(meron din sa Yahoo groups and Facebook, but for now, more than sufficient na itong 2.)

These are local Mt. Bike forums.  From there, your sister can find a number of groups and organizations that would suit her needs or taste.  Members from both forums sometimes organizes ride outs, and these are usually open for everyone.  Unless a certain skill level is required for particular trails.  The 2 forums also have trade sections where you can buy new or used bikes or parts.  In most cases, these can be cheaper than bike shops.  But this also means you'll be giving up warranties and you know what you want.

@gulaysk try ravencycles near uncle moes at malingap street (near maginhawa street). I bought two japanese bikes there (one priced at 7k, another for 5k) and got them plus extra discount. it's what the boyf and I have been using for the past three months.

there's also bizikleta near gilmore along aurora boulevard. would have bought from there but raven cycles is nearer my house plus there's space to try out the bike around the area.

@TheGoat and anachanel, thanks for the replies! I'll tell my sister to check out PhilMoFo and PMTB and will also share with her the price range for MTBs. 12-15k is not so bad. Pwedeng pwede pag-ipunan. : )

I've also seen bzkleta's online site. Will check out their store one of these weekends. There's also one in Kamuning (K-1st st) that sells Japanese bikes. Will also try to check that out. Thanks again!

We are planning to get a bike this summer. Budget 5k-10k. We can go to Cartimar but the thing is di naman kami marunong sa bikes.  MTB ba or road bike or may hybrid ba na build bike na rin? Parang ang hirap bumili ng clueless

gusto ko din matuto magbike last year i was planning to get a folding bike.. yung pearless ang tatak.. mura lang naman siya.. aroudn 6k-8k lang.. okay naman daw sabi ng bf ko.. kasi biker siya.. ayun.. ask ko lang mahirap ba magbike? im 24 na kasi.. and im not athletic..

Just got into mountain biking this year. It is so much fun! If it weren't for my biker hubby, I wouldn't be in this sport. We're both mountaineers but he's the biker, I'm the runner. When we bought a baby bike seat for our toddler, I got really envious. Because I didn't have a bike before, I can't go with them when they bike around the city or up to the mountain. So we bought my bike earlier this year. Magastos pero I ought to be serious about biking so I think it's a good investment. Here in Baguio, it's really challenging and enjoyable because of the sloping roads and trails.

anyway, ask ko lang if you could recommend where i could buy a nice bike? and anong tatak ba ang ok (if that's impt)? i'm just planning to use it for exercise lang naman so hindi naman siguro ganun kalaki ang budget ko for this one.

Hi sis, hindi naman mahirap magbike. I learned how to bike when I was in Grade school, tapos nakalimutan ko. When I was in college, since I'm here in Baguio, I get to relearn the skills. Now, I'm biking in trails. Ilang beses na rin ako lumipad sa bike at sumemplang, pero it's part of the learning process.

If you're going to use a folding bike, I bet in 1-3 hours, you can learn to bike. If you're in manila, the best place to train is in UP Diliman kasi malaki yung daan, during weekends or hapon. You have a biker bf so that's also a plus.

anywhoo, my bf bought a dahon folding bike 20" ang gulong.. so sad at mataas padin siya saken at di pa ako natuto dahil sa balancing.. pasang pasa na ang legs ko pero pursigido padin ako to learn biking. 
Im planning to buy a folding bike na 16" lang para saken.. I hope this time tamang tama na ang sukat nya for me at siguro dadayo kami sa area na maluwag at onti lang ang sasakyan para matuto ako
