Hi. I'm new here. Have been reading good reviews about propan syrup and TLC. I have a six month old who is active naman but sabi ni pedia during our visit last month, underweight daw sya for her age. Pinag-heraclene sya but so far, I havent seen improvement with her milk intake. Gusto ko i-try Propan TLC drops. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Propan Syrup is the appetite stimulant however it's only for toddlers so I can only give her the Propan TLC drops for now diba? Thanks.

Maybe it would help if you are able to establish a feeding routine for her. Mahirap, yes, but it is not impossible to have a toddler sit down for eating with the family.  ;) Expect mo lang na matagal talaga sila kumain at yes, mauuna pa matapos ang adults kesa sa kanya. Try to lessen the distractions during meal time (no tv, no gadgets while eating, etc. ). Also, establish that biscuits are for snacks, not for main meals. Does she eat bread or pasta/spaghetti with meat sauce? What does your pedia say regarding her weight and height?

@blissedout:
How long has she been on heraclene and how far below is her weight compared to the ideal?
Your baby is only 6 months of age. I suggest clearing it with your pedia first if it is ok to give her appetite stimulants. Propan TLC contains lysine, which also acts as an appetite stimulant.
Heraclene is more of a protein builder and not really an appetite stimulant. One of the effects of heraclene, though, would be increase in appetite.
Has she been started on iron supplementation?

@kyandren:
Pasensya na, but it would be irresponsible/unethical for me to make recommendations on medications for your child, even if it is just vitamins since I do not know your son's health status/nutritional status. It is really your pedia who is the best person to ask regarding this since she is the one who is most knowledgeable about your son's health. Isipin mo na lang na ang 400 na PF for your pedia ay money well spent because it is for the good of your son.  ;)
Also, at your son's age, hindi na dapat milk ang main source of nutrition niya. Maybe it would be better to expose him to food of different textures and change his eating habits para mag-improve din ang appetite niya.
What type of noodles does he eat? Also, bakit daw bawal ang artificial flavors/colors? Nalaman ba ang cause ng urticaria niya?

hi doc lelet. thanks for your reply. sorry i read it just now. she has only been on heraclene for over a month now, hindi ko pa ulit nabalik sa pedia for her monthly check-up due to my work schedule but hopefully this week. my mom has brought her to the local health center for her vaccine last week and they said she's not underweight, (thank God) although just barely above the ideal. naiisip ko din na baka sa genes lang talaga na hindi sya tabain cause my mom said i was of the same built when i was a baby. if she's too young for appetite stimulants then i guess i'll just stick to heraclene nalang if pedia will say so, hoping that she'll get a bit heavier on solids. she just started on solids this week eh. and yes, doc. she has already been prescribed Ferlin for iron since last month. thanks a lot po.  :)

@blissedout:
Ok, if she is in the ideal weight range, then there is no need for appetite stimulants. I suggest you bring her back to the pedia also to check if heraclene is still needed (hindi ito binibigay ng matagalan)...
Also, once babies start solid food intake, talagang bumababa ang weight gain since there is less appetite for milk. Ideally, babies gain 600 grams per month during the 1st 6 months of life and this decreases to 500 grams/month from 6 to 12 months of age.

@iceylicious:
Try to slowly introduce food of different textures sa kanya since she may have problems with chewing. Seems like she likes to eat food that is easy to chew.

This is the cdc height chart for your reference:
http://www.cdc.gov/growthcharts/data/set3/chart-06.pdf

http://www.cdc.gov/growthcharts/data/set2/chart-14.pdf

@kyandren:
Candies and lucky me noodles kasi contain artificial flavors and preservatives so kung pinagbawal siya, then why is he still eating those?
I strongly suggest you go back to your pedia since she is the best person to do a full evaluation of your child's nutritional status.

@leletmd thanks, doc. will visit the pedia just today. yes, she's not underweight according to the health center. mahina lang talaga sya dumede compared to other babies since she was born. we started on solids and changed to 6-12mos formula and her appetite for milk got worse. so i decided to switch to a diff 6-12mos formula, then held off on solids muna till she adjusts to her new formula. now her milk intake is getting better, reintroduce ko ulit ang solids. thanks a lot for the reply doc.  :D

^ You're welcome. Remember also that there is a proper way of introducing solid food. Hindi lahat ng solid food pwede na kaagad i-introduce and dapat 1 new food every 3 to 5 days ang introduction so it would be easier to detect which food caused the reactions if ever magkaroon man ng allergies or tummy problems. For example, first 3 days: lugaw; If no reaction, then can introduce mashed sweet potato (can continue lugaw at this point); If no reaction after 3 days, can add squash, etc.

Hello Doc lelet.

Last week, my son had fever and cough. Since last week, nawalan na siya ng ganang kumain. I'm really worried kasi he's taking antibiotics now for his cough pero ayaw niya talaga kumain.

Walang gana?

My son is 3 years old po pala.

Thanks doc. =)

@kiz_me1109:
It is possible that the loss of appetite was part of his ongoing infection, but if it has been going on for more than a week and he has already recovered from his illness, then it it time to bring him to his pedia for evaluation.

@den.nica:
I suggest you bring your baby to the pedia for follow up para na rin follow up sa hospitalization niya and to help him recover fast from his illness.

Hi mga sis, I've been having the same problem as yours months ago sa toddler ko. he will turn 2 this Dec. Grabe hirap namin pgpapakain, halos maloka kami ni hubby, everyday iba-iba ang ginawa namen. I tried mosegor too. Naka 2 bote din sya, and then I switch to appebon and I can say it works for him. He even asks for his milk and cries pag hindi nabigay agad. :D
