May isang mommy dito ginigising ang anak niya in the middle of the night para maka-pee.

So far everytime she wears her pajama, nakikita kong pinipigilan niya ang magwee-wee sa pants, less she gets wet all over.

This potty training business is driving me to tears. My daughter is very articulate but she wouldn't tell me when she's about to pee or poop! I keep asking her to tell me but she just wouldn't. I put her on the potty in the morning but she wouldn't pee (she doesn't wear diapers at night anymore and has never wet the bed, though). She'd pee minutes later naman when out of the potty.  It's a lot of hard work cleaning up the mess, I'm about to give up. I think I'll just put her in diapers until she's 10.

DV, how old is your daughter?  Perhaps, you can give her a break.  The more we force the issue, the harder it is for young children to fully express their need to pee or poop.

Accidents do happen.  Give your child a few months.  Potty-training cannot be done in just one day.

^^ Sis, I can understand, super challenging talaga ang potty training, a lot of mommies will agree... frustrating talaga... My 2.1 y/o daughter is very madaldal, and nakakasagot na siya ng maayos sa simple questions, pero one thing na pinagtataka ko is bakit ganun din, she doesn't tell me all the time na she needs to pee or poop... :-\

^I have the same problem with my daughter.  I sometimes see her diaper dry, but when I put her only on panties, she pees without telling me.  When she's taking a bath, I sometimes see her pee.  One time, she's heavily constipated na, and hasn't pooped for about 2-3 days.  Call me evil but I forcibly sat her down on the toilet with a potty seat.  She was crying and forcing her legs closed while I was coaxing her to relax.  After a while we saw the poop coming out (sorry sis if it's too graphic  ;D ).

My observation lang is that she's fascinated with poo and pee.  Parang she's surprised that these come out of her.  After a poop, she's glad and claps her hand.  Now I'm even more confused if she's ready or not.  By the way, she is already 2 years old and 3 months.

Thanks for the reminder.

She's a few months short of 3 years.  Actually, I think I should try a more aggressive potty training method.  Before kasi I'd put her in panties/training pants and just wait for her to tell me she needs to go.  95% of the time she'd do it anywhere except the potty.  Ang hirap kasi sa amin nung abang-method (wait for changes in expressions/actions then run to the potty).  Madalas, she'd go when she's playing by herself and I'm not looking (like when I'm washing the dishes or doing the laundry), so I really can't keep my eyes on her the entire time.

So yesterday, I put my mobile phone on alarm every 2 hours.  Sabi ko, I'd try placing her on the potty every 2 hours whether she needs to go or not para masanay lang sya.  So then she peed or pooped every 2 hours pero hindi ko naabutan din sa potty kasi kung kelan tapos na sya at nahugasan ko na, saka dun mag-a-alarm yung phone ko.  Hay.  Hindi sila in-sync.  Maybe I'll try 1:45 instead of 2:00.  Ang little success naman namin kahapon, she'd tell me this time if she already went in her training pants.

^ What if you put her potty near her? Also, let her watch you pee or poop in the grown up potty para makita nya kung paano. Or maybe place her around another kid her age who knows how to use the potty - minsan kasi inggitera yan mga yan e. hehe! just don't force her. mas mahihirapan ka kapag na-trauma sya.

we started with stickers before. i gave him stickers to decorate his potty seat. and then later on, i told him i'd give him more stickers everytime he pees or poops in his potty seat. pero later on, natanggal na rin yung mga stickers kasi nasanay na sya umupo ng walang stickers. tapos natatanggal yung stickers dahil nababasa sya sa paglilinis.

yung iba, ginagawa nilang laro. like a stuffed toy ang pinapaupo nila sa potty seat at first. or the parent will mimic sitting on the potty seat.

~ potty training is all about control and kids will sometimes control that because they feel it's the only thing they can... they will insist on diapers, trying to hold the pee and poop in (resulting in constipation or accidents etc)

~ they cannot control how they're disciplined or the other changes (losing a yaya, getting a sibling) happening...but they realize they have control over their bodies :) kaya if you/we make it an issue, our child is more likely to make it an issue

~ Some tips we might all do with consistency...
 1) don't tell a child to tell you if he needs to pee kasi it may sound like scolding
2) develop a habit of peeing (in the morning, include it in your ritual, then every hour you gently take your child to pee, after morning snack, let her sit in toilet naman to get used to pooping),
3) in case of accidents, no energy exerted dapat on what happened, no scolding (you should have told me), no punishment (you clean up your own mess)
4) no rewards (because the doing should be its own reward, but you can acknowledge the savings in diapers, the lack of soiled clothes),
5) clean up messes, yours (like after cooking) or his (after playing, or after accidents) together (and make it natural, na basta may mess, we do it together, later on you can progress to delegation, she cleans up this while you clean up something else)....

tips from our pedia and the teacher at Yakee's school :)

~ learning opportunity for the child cleaning up his own mess (say, pee) kasi you can show how it's done and why (gently) but if sya lang kasi, it might give the idea that he is being punished for still being a child...same principle if say, he spills a carton of milk (when tayo nga nakakatabig pa rin ng baso)...

^ uu nga no! i do all of what you said except #1 & #4. lagi ko sya tinatanong if nawiwiwi sya at sinasabi kong sasamahan ko sya kung wiwi sya. nung umpisa, para umupo sya sa potty seat nya, nagpapasama ako na sabi ko magwiwiwi ako. sasama naman sya. at dahil gaya gaya, inggitera, uupo rin sya sa potty seat nya - kahit walang lumalabas. basta ganun lang kami at first. nagbibigay din ako ng rewards nung umpisa - stickers he can stick on his potty seat. later on, yehey at very good na lang. and then later on, normal na lang.

naku... my son sometimes pees in his pants kasi he doesn't like his activities getting disrupted by wiwi breaks, so minsan I ask him if I need to take a toy away because it's not helping him listen to his body... but we can go out na without diapers :)

yung pooping though is another matter... he still doesn't like to go w/o a diaper on so I am at least training him to do it immediately after waking up, while he still has diaper from the night...

we need the savings!
