hello brave Mommies..I have a story to tell I don't know what you will make of this..

I once worked as a laboratory instructor at one of the best medical school in the metro, I was the youngest among the faculty so I became friends with other departments' secretaries. One of them got pregnant by another secretary's boyfriend and she wanted to abort the baby because the management will force her to resign, since they (the institution) strictly enforce good moral and right conduct among their employees. She asked ME to get her CYTOTECH from the hospital's pharmacy since I have access to the medical center. I knew CYTOTECH can cause abortion. BUT, I refused. It was her doing not her baby's. And I have my principles as well.
After a week she went to me and told me she got the tablets from QUIAPO and she's bleeding a little for 3 days already. She thinks it was the abortion already. I doubted. I told her to have ultrasound. I was right. She was still pregnant. She didn't have a choice but to continue with the pregnancy. With her conscience gnawing her everyday.  SHe was so afraid her baby would come out "incomplete". But she didn't.
The baby was perfect.

Life can be so ironic.

yes it is! God only knows everything and none of us can comprehend

teary-eyed tuloy ako ... yes, indeed babies are blessings!

the moment, i knew i was pregnant, ayaw ko ng uminom ng kahit anong gamot, kahit biogesic lang kasi my sipon at ubo ako that time, i was too afraid, that i would be hurting my baby --- until nag-consult kami sa OB. only then, naging panatag ang loob ko na uminom ng gamot.

my baby COURAGE MARSHANIA was born with multiple congenital deficiencies.

she has no hands,yes both..
she also has this so called hip dysplasia
and her right thigh bone is shorter than the left

i knew about this when she was still in my womb when I'm almost 4 months pregnant with her through CAS (congenital anomaly scan)

its was a heartbreaking news for everybody, especially to me.
but shes a wonderful blessing from heaven above,no doubt i love her from the moment i saw two lines in my pregnancy test.  :)

now, shes four months old and everytime i see her face,i smile and I'm proud to say that I'm contented to what the big man above had given us. :)

I'm her mom and i need to be strong for her. Its not easy but I know everything will be OK.

To all the moms out there who is in the same situation, don't be sad, acceptance is the first thing you should master.

Quit worrying, let God do the thinking. :

meet my baby Courage:

Mga sis, hirap maging mommy noh!!Pero napaka sarap ng pakiramdam every second na nkikita natin ang mga angel natin..ang baby q kasi pinanganak ko syang me congenital facial abnormalities.Pierre Robin Syndrome Cleft palate, unusually small jaw(micrognathia),glossoptosis,me myopia din sya or nearsited, kya 11mos old sya when he start wearing glasses & because of his open palate na infect yung kanyang ears.10mos sya nung inoperahan sa palate at nilagyan ng tube yung kanyang ears para malinis...I'm so scared, because of his difficulty in breathing & feeding.Wala syang  force to suck an ordinary nipple, kya dropper and medicine cup ang gamit nmin till we discover haberman.awang awa ako sa baby ko,walang araw na di ako umiyak.

^True. Very fulfilling ang maging isang "mommy". My baby Jamjam is too perfect for us.

We bought her a play gym para maexercise nya left hand nya. Medyo weak kasi ang left hand nya. We are planning na nga to have an orthopedia check on her left hands. Here are some of her pics when she was 4 months old:

Hi mga sis!! Just want to share also. My eldest son who is 2 years old now and turning 3 this June, since birth until now, his two balls hndi pa lumalabas, As in yung penis lang nya ang nandyan. We had consulted a pedia urologist and sabi he will undergo laparoscopic procedure.

At last, may nahanap rin kami. The doctor examined my daughter's hands and feet. No need daw for any operation or therapy si baby kasi mismong si baby daw ang magaadjust sa left hand nya. Pero may bad news. The doctor told us that sometimes daw, sa mga babies na may congenital defect, hindi lang daw iisa ang defect nila. May kasama pa daw na iba. So he told me to prepare myself.

be strong mga mommies... i know you've been through a lot... but as a mom we can't do anything but to fight and have faith that everything will pass and we will survive it...

scheduled p lang ako to have a congenital anomaly scan... kaya ngayon pa lang ngbabasa na ko ng mga forums and experiences ng mga mommies who went throught this stage... although wala pang result, for me it would be better to accept anything and be prepared kesa naman mabigla ako....

hopefully maging ok sya...

be proud mommies, to have a wonderful babies that we have now under our care... they are God's blessing to us... for being the strongest and bravest person on earth!

mga sis ilang weeks ka na ba dapat to have the congenital scan ba yun? This is my 3rd child & in my past two pregnancies wala naman ginawa na ganun na scan sa akin. Nakakatakot pa kasi i was suffering from allergy for 5 years after i gave birth to my 2nd child. so everyday i was taking telfast 180 for my allergy. And then nalaman ko 3 weeks pregnant na ako natakot ako kasi for 3 weeks ininuman ko sha ng telfast since [textspeak!] ko pa alam na preggy na ako..

kaya grabe prayers namin ng husband ko and my two kids are praying for a healthy baby din. sana naman walang effect yung gamot sa baby ko...

My OB never suggested CAS and I was not aware that there's such a thing as CAS until I gave birth. I felt so sad kasi feeling ko mas napaghandaan namin kung nagpa-CAS ako noon. Nevertheless, I still feel blessed. God has a purpose why He gave me a very wonderful child.  :)

is a genetic disorder considered as congenital defect? if so, I'd like to share the story of my little (2nd) cousin zubin.

he was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at age 3. it was also during this time around when my aunt gave birth to their youngest child. it was a mixed feeling of happiness (bec of the new baby) and sadness. it was a hard blow for my uncle and aunt since both of them are doctors. what worse, as doctors they cannot do anything for him.

you see currently DMD has no cure. to use my aunt's words "it will be like seeing your kid slowly melting like a candle." DMD is associated with respiratory failure, heart failure, and debilitating orthopedic complications. Most kids die in their late teens or early twenties.

you can read more of their story from here

it is usually done at around 19 weeks AOG.  it's good to have this test so we can be prepared on how to deal with our little angel's situation if ever there is an abnormality but we should also know that it could only detect physical deformities and organ problems.  it cannot detect genetic disorders like autism, down syndrome, etc.

i'm not familiar with the show. but i think if adult na, baka more similar siya sa case nung guy in tuesdays with morrie.

DMD is mainly seen in kids. for his case they first noticed that he was delayed in meeting all baby milestones (delayed walking, talking, etc). DMD basically deteriorates all muscles in the body because he lack that protein thats necessary for the muscle function. then later on, the kid loses all muscular functions. since both the heart and lungs have muscles, cardiac and respiratory failure can be expected later on. so yes, sadness talaga.
