my baby COURAGE MARSHANIA was born with multiple congenital deficiencies.

she has no hands,yes both..
she also has this so called hip dysplasia
and her right thigh bone is shorter than the left

i knew about this when she was still in my womb when I'm almost 4 months pregnant with her through CAS (congenital anomaly scan)

its was a heartbreaking news for everybody,especially to me.
but shes a wonderful blessing from heaven above,no doubt i love her from the moment i saw two lines in my pregnancy test. 

now,shes four months old and everytime i see her face,i smile and I'm proud to say that I'm contented to what the big man above had given us.

I'm her mom and i need to be strong for her. Its not easy but I know everything will be OK.

To all the moms out there who is in the same situation,don't be sad,acceptance is the first thing you should master.

sis, she's very pretty, and she's such an angel!and i hope you don't take this the wrong way, God didn't give her hands bec He gave her wings instead,ganda talaga ng baby mo,nung nakita ko yung pix nya,na overlooked ko yung arm,kasi nafocus agad ako sa beauty nya.

God bless you sis yhels! you made me cry and you made me proud also courage is soooo lucky to have parents like you and your husband. and she's a beautiful creation! her eyes, her lips, her smile.  i want to hug your baby and tell her that she's going to be fine because she has a mom like you

1st post ko 2 mga moms.. contented kc wid jst browsing here & reading ur posts..  but now dko mpigil sarili ko n mgpost..

i have a six-month old baby girl.. 1st baby nmin sya ni hubby..
nung pinanganak ko sya she seemed to be perfect (wel for me)..
sobrang saya nming lhat nun.. 1st apo sya s side ni hubby at 2nd apo nman smen..

until the bad news came.. 2mwag yung pedia nya & told us that she got the result of the Newborn Screening Test & she said n my congenital hypothyroidism ang baby ko.. at 1st i was shocked. kc s leaflet n nbsa ko fr. the hospital when she had the test,possible result nun is mental retardation.. iyak ako ng iyak nung time n un.. my relatives advised me 2 calm myself kc 10 days plang ako nkkpnganak,bka dw mksama sken.. 
pro dko mpigil kc everytym nkkta ko c baby naaawa ako s knya.. dko maimagine n mgging retarded ang anak ko.. pinagdasal ko n sna my gamot pra dun..

nghanap kmi ng doctor for her.. thank god nkhanap kmi ng isang mgaling n pediatric endocrinologist.. she explained evrything to us.. n wala dpat si2hin s mga ngyari..  that we should hope and pray n gumaling c baby thru medicine.. curable naman dw un once nktake sya ng gamot within a month fr birth.. nung nlaman nmin yung gamot nya,i cant wait n painumin n sya kgad.. 

mraming tests n dinaanan c baby.. tnitingnan kng umeepekto ang gamot.. dis decmber meron nnmn..everyday un ang pinagddasal ko..

so far ok naman ang baby ko.. sabi ng doctor nya umeepekto dw yung gamot..as long as mkktake c baby ng gamot nya lalaki xang normal.. 

ngyn wala n kmi inaala2 ni hubby.. hindi nlng nmin iniicp un.. at so far ok c baby,wala kmi nki2tang hndi normal s knya.. so to all moms out der n my kprehong stuation,jst have faith.. dasal lang.. be strong pra s anak natin..

i have a son with an amniotic band syndrome also; nakita na yun when i undergone congenital anomaly scan during my 7th month; shorter ang left forearm niya and he has amputated digits of the left hand. as early as 1 month old, pinapatignan na namin siya sa isang pedia ortho. at 1 month old, he wore a splint because he developed muscle contractions sa wrist area. he wore that for almost 4 months. nung 6th month niya, we learned that he has congenital radio-ulnar synosthosis. whole story sa link na to:

then nung 7 months old na siya, he started wearing corrective glasses. he was diagnosed na malabo ang mga eyes niya kaya siya parang may strabismus. whole story sa link na to:

actually, the first few weeks after delivery, iyak ako ng iyak. sinisisi ko sarili for what happened to matteo. what went wrong? kasi alaga naman ako ng ob ko at lahat ng vitamins iniinom ko. basta, ang dami-daming pumapasok sa isip ko. thankful ako because i have a supportive and loving husband. pag maayos support system mo, madali mo matatanggap mga bagay-bagay. alam ko may reason si god for creating matteo this way; hindi man namin malaman ngayon, but in time, HE will show us why ive also learned not to ask question but to find solutions to the problem:) and what's best, we love him so dearly

we dont treat matteo differently so that he wont feel different. now, at almost 1 year old, he moves and acts as a normal 1 year old kid; sobrang likot  if you will see him in person, makikita mo talagang nagagamit niya yung left hand niya and we like attending kiddie parties and going to the malls

we received the same reactions and comments from people lalo na nung early months ni matteo; i just answer them its congenital. eversince, we've been very open to our relatives and friends about his condition. pero napansin ko din, na people nowadays are very openminded. they dont descriminate or criticize person's with defects kaya i know in time, it will be easier for our babies especially when they go to school

tanong ko lang sa mga mommies with their babies like that, did any of your doctor tells you what went wrong? or what's the cause of those defect? I mean, if it genetics, or with so many vitamins na naiinom natin while pregnant,baka iyon pa ang naka harm sa kanila.

    i´m a mother of two boys and as i read these thread , and saw some of your baby pictures it brings me tears and melt my heart also...i know as a mom we would give the best of love and care to our children...i remember when i used to work in medical city as a delivery room nurse,,it always brings me joy to see babies being born and show them to their families...i also remember babies being born with defects and for me they really look like an angel...i have seen the worst cases and it will always saddens me...

    i would like to applause all mommies here for being strong...it´s not easy raising a child and mommies are always there for them....our babies are all blessings from God...

hello sis mitchoy! pareho pala tayo. yung baby ko naman walang thumb sa left hand. tapos mas maliit din yung left forearm nya kaysa sa right forearm nya. tapos sis parang lupaypay yung left hand nya, yung tipong hindi straight, pero naigagalaw naman nya. hindi pa nga namin naipapakita sa ortho si baby ko kasi limited ang doctors dito sa amin. siguro kailangan pa naming bumaba sa manila para mapatingin si baby. 3 months na sya ngayon.

sis FickleMinded, sabi po ng mga doctors sakin baka daw genetics (i don't know kasi wala naman both sa sides namin ni hubby ang may syndrome katulad ng sa baby ko) ang reason. i also asked myself kung bakit nagkaganun si baby eh sinunod ko naman lahat ng advise ng OB ko. I even religiously attended my monthly check up. lahat ng mga vitamins na prinescribe ni OB ko ininom ko. but now, i no longer ask myself kung bakit ganun si baby. God has a reason why He gave us our baby girl and i no longer question God's purpose.

^ san ka ba base sis? mukhang same case nga babies natin:) matteo will turn 1 on the 12th and after ng 1st birthday niya, schedule visit namin sa pedia ortho niya; ipapakilala daw samin yung hand surgeon. dun malalaman when yung 1st surgery

^sis, dito kami sa baguio nakabase. wala daw atang pedia ortho dito. maghahanap pa lang kami ni hubby next week sa mga hospital. sa totoo lang, ayaw ni hubby at ng mama ko na paoperahan si baby. ok naman daw kahit walang thumb si baby. ang problema lang talaga is yung length ng forearm nya at yung wrist nya. parang walang butong nagcoconnect sa hand at arm nya eh, kaya lupaypay kamay nya pero naigagalaw pa rin naman nta. pero for me, it is best pa rin na ipatingin ko si baby sa doctor para maagapan pa kung ano man ang pwede pang agapan sa kamay nya.

sana naman maging ok na ang hand ni baby matteo.

not sure sis kung ano dahilan.. ang baby ko kasi nakita s thyroid scan nya n wala syang thyroid gland.. i asked her pediatric endocrinologist kung ano pwede cause nun sabi nya wala daw tamang dahilan dun.. she told us that sadly it happens sometimes  
hindi naman daw yun hereditary or what.. nagkataon lang talaga n s baby ko ngyari yun.. we should not blame anyone daw.. haaayy..

but i remember may nainom ako nung buntis ako.. around 5 months nilagnat ako ng 3days at ngtake ako ng paracetamol nun.. my OB said n safe daw yun.. so ewan ko ba kung yun nga.. sabi nman ng endo hindi daw yun dahil sa gamot..

now maintenance lang s gamot c baby.. my case daw n after 3yrs magkaron or tumubo yung thyroid gland.. we hope and pray n sana ganun nga..

While reading the posts here, I remember this quote from a book I read, it says " There is only one perfect child in the world, and every mother have one."
 
i am a mom also and for me my kids are the most beautiful creation of God regardless of what other people might say. Sa mga mommies na nagshare ng stories nila dito, your babies are lucky to have you as their moms. you have my respect and admiration.  you have beautiful babies and kiddos that will make all of you proud when they grow up. sobrang natouch ako sa mga nashare niyo dito. when it comes to kids and their stories masyado akong emotional.

may mga tao talagang ignoramus, mal-edukado at insensitive. don't mind them. just be strong for your kids. shower them with your love

siguro maganda nga na ipatingin niyo pa rin. for sure, need niya mag-undergo ng xray procedure para malaman bone structure niya sa left forearm; ganun ginawa kay matteo. but we waited until he was 6 months old para daw very visible. dun nakita na may radio-ulnar synostosis (radio & ulnar bones are connected) siya kaya pala hindi nya ma-straighten yung left arm niya.

most of my relatives dont agree on us na ipa-opera yung hand ni matteo. pero its better na maayos na habang wala pa siyang malay. ayaw kasi naming mag-asawa na magkaroon siya ng inferiority complex because of his defect.

well,good for you, ako din dati nilagnat dun sa 2nd baby ko,pero ok naman,yun nga lang after 3months nadevelop yung skin asthma nya,naubusan na rin ng explain yung doctor,so far ok na rin naman na ngayon,ganon talaga first reaction natin mga mommy kapag we found something wrong with the baby,we blame ourselves but even doctors already said, some things happen.

hello brave Mommies..I have a story to tell I don't know what you will make of this..

I once worked as a laboratory instructor at one of the best medical school in the metro, I was the youngest among the faculty so I became friends with other departments' secretaries. One of them got pregnant by another secretary's boyfriend and she wanted to abort the baby because the management will force her to resign, since they (the institution) strictly enforce good moral and right conduct among their employees. She asked ME to get her CYTOTECH from the hospital's pharmacy since I have access to the medical center. I knew CYTOTECH can cause abortion. BUT, I refused. It was her doing not her baby's. And I have my principles as well.
After a week she went to me and told me she got the tablets from QUIAPO and she's bleeding a little for 3 days already. She thinks it was the abortion already. I doubted. I told her to have ultrasound. I was right. She was still pregnant. She didn't have a choice but to continue with the pregnancy. With her conscience gnawing her everyday.  SHe was so afraid her baby would come out "incomplete". But she didn't.
The baby was perfect.

Life can be so ironic.

naiyak ako while reading the posts. I am currently 4 mos pregnant and will be having my fetal anomaly scan on the 22nd. Kinakabahan ako but I pray everyday for a healthy baby.

we can't help but blame ourselves pag may nangyari  na d maganda kay baby pero it  must be God's plan and will and we just have to accept it. I'm so proud of you mommies for sharing your stories.
