I'm married for more than 2 years na but until now I still use my single family name. good thing na I used my japanese name kasi it's normal naman na japanese wives don't follow the family name of their husbands thought the children MUST follow their father's surname. I just don't know why most of the filipinas who are married to japanese follow the surname's of their husbands. siguro they are following the phil. custom na you will follow the surname of your husband. btw, is there a law that states that we must do that? isa pang reason why I didn't use my hubby's surname is that ayaw ko sa surname nya.

same reason as mine. sobrang ordinary ng surname ni hubby plus i dont like to be called Mrs. ___ like my MIL.  my maiden surname is unique and i'm the only person in the world with this name (first name + surname) while pag nagchange ako sa surname ni hubby, thousands na un may name na ganun.  hassle pa un pagpalit ng lahat ng docs since we're based overseas.  so after 3 yrs of marriage, still using my maiden name and no plan to change.  hubby is ok with it. he also doesn't like his mother, more than me, and also doesn't like me called Mrs. ___ like his mom.

I'm currently in the process of changing my last name to my hubby's surname. Actually, when I got my new office ID with his surname on it, nag-light up talaga face ni hubby! Na-touch ako kasi I didn't know na it meant so much to him.

Pero, I told him na I have no plans of dropping my last name kaya sbe ko, hyphenated ang magiging last name ko. Sbe niya, "no problem as long as misis kita at naka-reflect ang name ko sa name mo for the whole world to see".

Yep. I use my hubby's last name kasi un na [textspeak!] name sa Marriage Cert namin and he wants me to use it always. After our wedding last 2009, pinakuha na nya ko kagad ng maraming valid IDs using his last name including passport change last name. But my signature is still the same, I did not change it anymore, mahirap e. hehe  ;D

I am not using my husband's family name, pero of course the kids will bear his last name.
I dunno, when I was younger kasi I hear stories na this and that woman is hard to track down na kasi she got married. I went to pretty good schools and I felt bad na just because she got married parang nawala na lang siya sa circulation, parang going to our school was a bragging right (naks, I'm bragging about it now) pa naman kahit pano tapos you don't get to see them sa mga homecomings just because they can't be found. (oh well, this was pre-facebook days)

Also, I read somewhere that hindi nama pala required legally yung change of name. Sabi pa nga, marriage is a change of status, not of name.

Also, I know a lot of people yet I rarely know their middle names, except na lang kapag super close ko. Parang unfair naman sa nanay and her family na hindi man lang nababanggit apelyido nila, siguro if I keep my maiden name my own kids will be "used" using it and people will know he/she is a product of myself and the hubby, kahit sa pangalan lang.  :)

^^ Correct yan!  Syempre I tell people parati na prefer ko lang di magpalit kasi mahirap magbago lahat docs lalo na sa abroad ako.  Pero to myself, honest ako na one of the reasons why I'm not changing is because I prefer my name talaga. Di naman sya required ng law kaya now 3 years married and I'm still using my maiden surname.  Maraming tao na hirap umintindi like when I applied for bank home loan, pilit nila na isulat yung loan sa Spouses xxx.  Sabi ko, since ako naman ang main payer, kelangan nila sundin ano legal name ko which is still my maiden name. I had to show them the RA 386 article stating this. I have no plans of using my husband's surname ever.  Isa pa, ayaw ko maka-same surname ang aking MIL noh!  :D

I will change the name of my SSS, Driver’s License, TIN, Philhealth and Passport for legal purposes. But I will keep the maiden surname for my PRC ID kasi this ID is dedicated to my parents, sila ang naghirap para makamit ko ang ID na ito. Likewise, I retained my signature.
In the office I use hyphenated name: Given name Middle Initial Maiden Surname-Spouse Surname.

if it were really my choice, i wouldn't change my surname. mas maganda kase yun surname ko than that of hubby's ;D kaya nung si hubby nagtatanong kung when ko daw papalitan yun surname ko, sabi ko na lang kapag time na to renew my passport. kaso sumimangot ba naman hehe. ayaw ko naman sya magtampo so nag-update na ako ng ibang records - bank accounts, SSS, Philhealth. pero yun passport, hintayin ko na lang talaga renewal, mga 3 yrs pa. pati nga signature ko gusto ni hubby papalitan eh parang super sanay na ako sa signature ko dati at nahihirapan ako pumirma sa bago.

sa social networking sites, it's hyphenated :)

Ah wala naman issue sa kanya.  Di naman sya yung ma-ego sa ganyan.  Importante is how we are as husband & wife, and submissive naman ako sa kanya sa bahay, as a wife usually is. Hehe.

ako, di ko pa na-update lahat. pero sa ngaun, hypernated ang gamit ko. most of my ID's kc bearing my maiden name pa like passport, driver's license, DTI and mayor's permit, TIN, SSS.

hindi ako nag-change ng last name since established na ko in my profession when we got married and ang daming paperwork aasikasuhin.  pero i think, hubby is still hoping that i would eventually take his last name, conservative kasi yun.  and when we had our baby, tinatawag siyang mr. "wife's maiden name", hehe  ;D

^ your maiden middle name. Your surname will be the full hyphenated surname.
