i'm getting confused about this too. i knew for certain that you can't but there's this story circulating in my uncle's family like this:

uncle and ex-wife got married in the Philippines. ex-wife was able to go to the US and filed for petition so uncle can join her. when he gets to the US, he finds out that ex-wife filed for and was granted divorce. now, they are really divorced, as in, the state recognizes that. so medyo nawindang naman ako.

gulo no? hirap kausap mga sinungaling eh. but from what little i know about it, nope, you can't file and be granted divorce in another country so their little story puzzles me.

:)

Sana malegalize na divorce dito sa Philippines kasi if the relationship doesn't work out why should we keep ourselves in a relationship for the longest time. This will people to find someone else who can make them happy.

i'm pro divorce... at least divorce you're acknowledging that you were married but it didn't work out.  annulment is synonymous to not getting married at all... after inviting guests and exchanging vows in front of God and in front of people they know parang medyo nakakatawa diba?

and mistresses won't have that excuse na kaya sila naging mistress kasi walang divorce...

korek! ka plastican to stay in a marriage that is not working anymore and besides, not having a divorce in our country will definitely not stop couples from separating if its really unworkable anymore.

i ve just read an article in MSN money matters on the net that there are couples that were so called nondivorced, they opt to stay in a relationship because of financial reasons though they dont have deep love or feelings with each other anymore.

It should be legalized. We are humans and we are all bound to make mistakes. hence we should be allowed to make amends

Hi hi hi hi. Adam should have file for a divorce when Eve encouraged him to take a bite from the forbidden fruit because it has caused him to also lose immortality. IF he didn't he might have been given a new wife (or mistress). ha ha ha ha

i think divorce should be legalized in the philippines. legalizing it does not mean we want couples to end their relationships immediately or that we do not value the sanctity of marriage. i think its only fair for couples who realize their differences to be able to find a partner that's really suited for them. i see no use in trying to stay together and not being able to function the way normal couples should.

if there are children involved, then it should be thought out carefully. if at the end of the day they feel they really cannot settle their differences, then parents who file for divorce should set the proper expectations and communicate with their children. its better to have both parents separate than try to stay as a family and be dysfunctional. i think thats more destructive that divorce itself.

I mean, what's the use of staying with your spouse if you're no longer happy?

YES

if the couple tried their very best to settle their issues and still the marriage won't work, or if there is violence(physical, verbal, mental, emotional, economical), or there is no more love for each other, then i think it's best to go for divorce.
