Help girls! Required ba yung invitation letter for a short-stay schengen visa? Backpacking sana kami duon ng kaibigan ko sa Spain (and Greece) to attend a festival last week of -August.  Wala naman kaming kilala sa  Spain, book lang kami sa mga hostels or inn....will reservation bookings do sa embassy?

Also, oks na ba mag-apply ngayon pero last week of August pa ang alis? Gusto na rin namin kasi magbook ng hotels kasi madaling mapuno pag festival...

Any help would be great!

^  For any country that is a member of the European Union (like France) you apply for a Schengen visa at the embassy where you will enter the EU or where you will be staying the longest.  So you will really have to go to the French Embassy.

The requirements are on their website.
But basically,  they want to establish that you are not a flight risk.
Meaning, you have reasons to come back, such as a comfortable job, properties, a business.  It is also impt that you show you have a financial history -- such as a bank account maintained for a couple of years.  The balance need not be in the millions -- what is impt is that they see you are a responsible member of our society,  that you have a livelihood here.

If you have a US, Japanese or Australian visa already -- even if it is your 1st time in Europe -- this/these will work greatly in your favor.

Be truthful,  say your aunt has invited you for a short visit.  Inquire what kind of paperwork they need your aunt to send over to you -- to show them.

It will also help if you have other plans aside from visiting your aunt.  Say you are going to Paris or Rome/Madrid.  Make arrangements with your travel agent for your itinerary and for your hotel bookings.  Oh ya,  make arrangements for flight reservations -- they will ask for that at the embassy.

A letter from the festival organizer will help you.  It is likewise better to get your travel agent to make flight reservations; as well as hotel reservations.  But since you are not sure about getting a visa yet --  make sure the hotel reservations can be cancelled or else, your credit card will be charged. 

Sure apply now, it is not too  early,  you will be able to get better deals vis-a-vis hotel reservations the earlier you book.

yes if you have a US Visa, it will help, so as the other visas from other countries before (esp if it is an EU country) that you been issued in the past ... i do suggest that if you have somebody inviting you to go there, it would be best to have a letter of invitation from that person together with the persons' passport copy or any document showing that he/she is actually based there ... also, if you are going to several countries in Europe, you have to apply for a visa from the country (embassy) which is your point of entry ... if you are going to Paris first, secure your schengen visa from the French embassy ...

The Spanish Embassy in London gave me a 3 month Multiple Entry Schengen Visa. I'm based in the UK by the way. Pumunta na ko ng Spain last month. If pupunta ako ng Holland next month, can I use the same Schengen Visa o dapat ang Port of Entry ko is Spain since sila nag issue ng visa ko? TIA

Although as usual, na-delay na naman kami sa pag-apply, we just recently scheduled our appointment and we hope to fly mid-August, good luck to us!

Basically, it's a backpacking trip so we're not relying on invitation from friends, bale booking confirmation lang from (cheap!) hotels and we did it ourselves via online. We did not go through the agency except for airline tickets.  Hope we did not miss anything, or is it better if we processed everything through agency?

My mom and sister is planning to join the Marian Pilgrimage this september and our scheduled interview for Schengen Visa is on the 25th July. I don't know what to expect.  Are they as strict as the US?  Hopefully not.  We wrote our letter of request (handwritten) to the consul na.  This is my first time to apply for Schengen visa.

not as strict but they will require some proof that your coming back to the phils ... employment contract, business permits, bank deps, etc. ... if you're joining a tour, get a confirmed itinerary and tickets (return tickets) from your tour operator.

The visa is easier to get than the US one but it is also subjective to your point of entry (i.e. what your primary destination will be).

I have already 3 Schengen visa marked on my passport. First was for Germany, then Austria, then Germany. I am going on my 4th. too bad kasi Sweden just closed their embassy here.

The rule is where yata ang first major destination mo (not counting stop-overs like Frankfurt)..

Nope as long as you fulfill their requirements.  Medyo mahigpit ang France, Italy, Spain from what I heard.

depends sa purpose.. the shortest visa processing I had was two days. I thought it was a Schengen (now I realized oo nga pala it was a German visa lang). It looked like Schengen pero sa itaas Deutshmark or something lang applicability. After that easy na lang..

you have to get your schengen visa from the embassy of the first schengen country that you are going to ...

We'll be getting our Schengen visa on Tuesday from the French embassy. All we showed them were bank statements, current/old passports with different visas/stamps, employment certificates, travel itinerary and an invitation letter from Airbus Industrie. There weren't so much questions asked, I guess as soon as they saw the invitation letter they knew we were legit.

Weirdly, when we applied for a schengen visa at the Spain Embassy, we did not present any invitation later, kasi sa list of requirements nila, that one was optional.

I mean, if you're really invited and there's really that invitation, might as well present it. Pero for us, whose intention is to backpack, we did not present one, we just showed our itinerary and our hotel bookings.  Tapos oks na, they approved our visa. So that might be a tip for those going backpacking!
