Teaching as career

anyone here who is familiar with up open university. they have a course for professional teaching certification program. i was just wondering if its credited by other schools as well. i mean if i finished this course would i be able to teach and take the LET? how does the up open university work? thanks!

I want to start with my MA this year. I've decided on MA SPED. Sana lang matanggap ako sa UP kasi bukod sa malapit sa work, mura pa. Doon naman ako grumaduate. Wish me luck

I have a friend who works for a leading company here in the philippines but she is about to resign na kasi she'll teach na lang daw..

Also, my sister also shifted being a treasury head to become a professor!

She's telling me, higher pay and more time than office work.. may point siya..

Pero she plans on working again in an office tapos mag-part-time prof..

^True yan sis.  Kasi sa DLSU ako pumapasok ngayon for my grad studies.  Meron akong ibang mga classmates na part time teachers din sila sa mismong DLSU yung iba naman sa Benilde.  Yung 3 classes lang daw, buhay na daw sila.  In DLSU nga lang, mas tatanggapin daw nila yung may PhD or kumukuha ng PhD.

Sa mga sisses natin dito na nagtuturo sa mga universities, may question poko.  Kasi natanggap nako sa isang university dito sa Manila as a full time English instructor.  Sabi kasi sakin nung nag-apply ako, since hindi ko pa tapos yung masters ko medyo slim chance ko pero baka tawagan nalang ako by June 10, that would be the latest kung maraming enrollees and kelangan nila ng karagdagang teachers.

Pero kanina tumawag yung chairperson and sabi if I'm still interested, tanggap na daw ako and bigay saken 24 units.  Now my question is, may tendency pa bang mabawasan ang load ko on school day itself kasi baka kunwari maraming magdrop?    Hindi naman sa pessimistic ako na kasi hindi nila ako gusto LOL.  Basta possible ba yun?  The reason why I ask is kasi meron akong current job ngayon as a call center agent.  Matagal nako dito.  Parang for financial security, hanggat maari ayoko muna bitawan tong call center job hanggang may kasirugaduhan na ganon nga yung number of units ko.

rockONsaint ~ Thank you sis! Nakakatuwa talaga kasi I only decided to take it 2 years after graduating. Unfortunately, I do not plan to practice this profession yet. I plan to take MA first. Then, get teaching experience for at least a year and then work overseas eventually. Like you, I worry about being financially secure. Nakakalungkot pero ganoon talaga eh. Ikaw sis saan ba itong university where you plan to teach if you don't mind mentioning?

^Hi.  Basta dito sa Manila isa sa mga UAAP na school.  hehe.  Ayaw pa talagang sabihin eh no.   

Tama yan sis.  Tuloy mo yan maybe not this time.  Ganyan din ako hindi ko muna practice agad teaching profession.  If you want to go abroad, I would suggest you get teaching experience first and if you can at the same time get a master's degree.  Kasi merong co-teacher yung mommy ko yung anak niya nag-apply sa US.  Ang hanap nila yung may teaching experience at least 2 years and tapos na yung master's degree.  Kahit academic requirements lang.  Pero mas maganda kung tapos na pati rin yung thesis.

^ Oo nga raw sis! Kaya ang plan ko, take MA degree while I'm still at the company am working at right now. Then, sa last year ko sa MA, kuha na ako teaching experience, siguro naman by that time nakaipon na ako at graduate na kapatid ko sa college, then complete at least 1 or 2 years teaching experience and then apply abroad. Sa akin naman hindi kailangan na US. Kahit SE Asia lang muna. At saka na ako mangangarap ng mas malayo pa sa SE Asia. Hehe

si hubby nakapasa noon sa FACES...kaso naabutan ng recession sa US kaya hindi rin tumuloy. katuwa nga dahil yung nagrecommend sa kanya na meet ko lang sa ibang forum.

fullfilling daw ang teaching profession sabi ni husband, lalo na ngayon, madaming pumasa sa LET na student nya. tuwang-tuwa sya.

^ Hindi pa ako nakapagturo talaga professionally besides OJT ko sa UPIS pero after I found out that most of my students passed in UP Diliman at mga math related courses, sobrang natuwa ako! Papaano pa kaya sa hubby mo. Wooow!

i started teaching sa isang univ dito sa manila in 2008, member ng UAAP

2008 1st sem, 1 subj lang. try lang....

2009, 1st and 2nd sem me nagturo

2010, i declined kasi im preggy...mapapagod ako masyado, nasa 1st trim pa lang me...kahapon 1st day, then 3rd floor, so i was so tired even going to the school...grabe parang pagod na pagod ako...so nagpaalam lang me kanina na decline na muna ako..1 subj lang pero binigyan pa sana ako ng dean..

actually, i declined 2 offers...kasi im preggy nga...

They offered me this april to be a full time prof. meaning il start with 24 units..then if matagal tagal, pwedeng madagdagan daw...i declined why, kasi pag nagfull time ako sa kanila, wala me benefits...i need leave, healthcard habang buntis me...then pag nanganak...so gagamitin ko muna yung sa full time ko ngayon...e sa kanila, 4 consecutive sems para maregular..the dean liked me daw...sabi ng chairman ko...babae [textspeak!] dean ha, without malicious intent yon kasi sabi ngayon lang daw sila ulit mag probi ng part timer...

for those who want to know the rangge of the rate, PM me lang...pra mag apply sakanila...you need to submit per college...kung sang college mo gusto magturo...hndi centralized sa HR...what i did, just addressed the letter to the dean with resume..

sa kanila pala they are accepting with units..pero i don't know if dapat merong experience sa pagtuturo...then pag di pa tapos sa masteral, mas mababa ang rate.

i just had my demo then ayun, offer na agad...


then eto lang din, my alma mater offered me full time, so i declined again...eto hindi pa ako nakakapgturo sa kanila, both undergrad and masteral ko doon...pero not necessarily matanggap ka....ganun din applicaiton, sulat per collge...

i declined kasi nga the benefits, 6 consecutive sems bago mapermanent...alangain kasi ako pag nanganak, merong pasok, so wala pang leave...

i started applying in my alma mater in 2008, after i got my masteral pangrap ko bumalik as prof nga lang ...my first try was in this college ...unfortunately, isa lang need nila then ang kasabayan ko grad din doon, parang tatay ko na and 3 years na nagtuturo sa college, e ako 1 sem palang that time..so hindi me nakuha...

then i had my demo sa differnt college this april lang...then ayun...etong june they called me...offering me full time...then i have a friend who graduated din sa same skul na offeran sya part time...i dont know if meron syang load...kasi sabi nya ang plan ngayon ng college na yon is to get practitioners.

More than the pay itself, I get a different high when teaching. Just recently, I volunteered to teach a computer subject, yung mga student ko mas matatanda pa sa akin, and this is gratis job lang ha, pero at the end of the day, when I read the comments, it gives a smile on my face. When I was working in the corporate world pa in the Phils. part of my job is to train employees on how to use newly acquired software. Yung mga tinuturuan ko are people of position. And I just love how it feels specially if I know I have helped them in a way.

Palagi ko nga sinasabi that teaching requires a different kind of dedication, a different kind of passion. To be effective, you dont just look at the monetary compensation, but look instead on the value of the profession. I do honestly believe that teachers are not simply made, but born to be in that profession.
