if i enroll sa UP open university, they offer kasi yung professional teaching certification, after that i can teach na specifically in pre school? how does the open university work? accredited ba yun if later on i decide to take up MA? hope someone could enlighten me. thanks

^ hi sis. m not that familiar with open university, but i can answer your other questions.

the educ units (teaching certification) is primarily taken by non educ undergraduates to take the LET (licensure exam for teachers).

the LET is what you need to teach (whether it be preschool, elementary or highschool).

There are some schools that are particular. - they only hire teachers who passed the LET. HOWEVER, there are some naman na hindi...this is common sa preschool.

you can take MA naman even if you didn't take the educ units. at least for UP. but for PNU, they require that you take their CTP program (this is certification program nila) before they allow you to take MA.

i also love teaching! i actually took up and have a degree in a medically-related course, and am also licensed to practice my profession.  due to some twist of fate, i ended up in the BPO industry.  eventually, i became a call center trainer. i've handled both process training and communications (voice and accent) training classes in 2 different call centers. i guess you could say i have been blessed to experience "the best of both worlds." i get to share knowledge and teach in a classroom setting, and also, the pay is quite good once you have established yourself.  it's a rewarding job because you see how what you teach makes a difference in your trainees' lives -- you help them do their jobs well and help hone their skills.  they are also very grateful, and they send thank you messages once they hit the operations floor and pass all their qualifying 'exams' to become an agent.  in the course of teaching, i've also learned a lot myself - from other countries' cultures to financial matters (i used to teach these things too - credit cards, mortgages, etc), and it has also helped me hone my communication skills even more. 

i am eventually going back to my original profession (but i will be practising abroad where the pay is much much better), but teaching will always be close to my heart. if you feel you have excellent communication and facilitation skills and are able to survive a shifting (possibly graveyard) schedule, i encourage you to try training in a BPO setting.  you may have to start out as an agent first, but if you have teaching experience that might be considered.

for those with excellent grammar and oral communication skills (diction, pronunciation, etc), there is a company in libis that hires english communication teachers/trainers. you will teach via phone and your students are european executives (french, italian, german).  i don't know if they are currently hiring, but the pay is pretty competetive (better than the korean teaching companies).  you can always try to walk in. they are located in IBM plaza in eastwood.

one downside to this though...should you decide to pursue your career in the academe..... locally or abroad....this type of experience is not recognized

i inquired about it kasi sa isang foreign school in the US. and according to them...adult education is different from teaching school kids....makes sense naman. and also, sabi nila call center training lacks some usual tasks that teachers do....like lesson planning. oh well.

so i gave up the really good pay for my first love ..teaching

well, if you really want to teach in an academic institution, yun talaga, they won't consider your experience. and you really have to be certified and take up education units. that's one more disadvantage.

for me, it doesn't matter what the setting is, i still consider my job "teaching."  also, the tasks one does also depends siguro on the call center. i've done lesson plans, although ofcourse it's not as comprehensive; it wasn't for the whole semester or school year. i've administered tests and checked testpapers, and i've also sent daily attendance reports.

one thing i've gained from this job also is the confidence to speak in front of an audience -- an audience of adults, at that!  i've presented project proposals to the big bosses/managers and successfully answered their questions. iba yung feeling, kasi i'm not really ma-bibo and madaldal...so i felt like, "kaya ko pala ito!"  nakakatuwa.

Someone here taking up TESOL in PNU?  Went there today to inquire abt their undergraduate certificate w/specialization in TESOL and i got the brochure here.  Kaso lang medyo iba yung pagka-explain nung nakausap ko vs. the info dun sa brochure.  I just want to clarify kung ilang units ba talaga siya and ilang subjects talaga ang involved.  I hope someone can give light on this.  thanks!

In demand ngayon ang English teachers sa China, Taiwan, Singapore at Korea. Unfortunately, my first job isn't related to teaching so I still can't apply. Usually the require 2-3 years experience.

ako din i want to take up the certification program first (im not sure if tama ba ang term ko)..basta yung pwede ka makapag LET if hindi ka education graduate. saan kaya school meron nito aside from UP. gusto ko sana sa UP pero hindi yata abot ang average ko nung college..hay.

hi sis. teaching is a noble career. go for it!

inform ko lang kayo, filipinos are (normally) not accepted to teach in china, taiwan and korea. they prefer native speakers (americans, canadians, irish, NZ, british). ewan ko lang sa singapore, pero i heard, hindi rin daw mashadong type pag pinoy teacher not unless dun ka nag-study sa singapore or nag-work na dun tapos derecho apply as a teacher.

sa thailand, indonesia and vietnam, they accept non-native speakers. not bad, coz the pay is high.

Sabi ng professor ko sa PNU, 30 units na daw talaga ang required ngayon to be able to take the licensure exam. I took only 8 units this semester so I think 4 semesters ang kailangan to finish CTP.

@ sis catblox - I think 350 per unit sa MA. I'm really not sure though. I'll try to check this Saturday.

Yes, sis.  So far the only schools i've checked out that offer TESOL as post bachelors are PNU and Lasalle.  I'll take the test this september, sana makapasok ako.  Sa mga nag-MA and nag-CTP sa PNU mhirap ba makapasok?

^ from what i know (our other sis can correct me if i'm wrong ) kahit ano undergrad mo pede ka mag apply as a trainer. what counts is experience as a TRAINER.

for soft skills, (this includes language lessons - grammar, diction, etc ....pede rin mey background ng country ng call center/account....and mga customer care phone etiquette - how to handle irate callers, etc) usually, externally hired.

for product trainers (you teach HOW to handle the account - like credit card process, mortgage, etc) ....usually internally hired. kasi madalas dapat mey alam na sa product eh.

have you tried looking into jobstreet? minsan mey nakikita ako dun na hiring for trainers eh. kelangan mo lang chempuhan, i guess...
