^exactly, sis! i am a catholic but i know my church is wealthy. bakit kaya hinde sila magtayo ng rehab instead na magpaganda ng mga simbahan. i know there are few rehabs run by jesuit priests somewhere in cebu pero kulang pa din. sobra pa din yaman nila.

anyways, about foreign relations and policies, unfortunately hinde ako knowledgeable dyan kaya mahirap for me mag comment. ayoko sa US kasi sobrang pakialamero and feelingero masyado. and i cant understand why a US' enemy would automatically become everyone's enemy too. I know mayaman silang bansa at tumutulong sila pero I think they're given too much credit for everything. and I personally believed they were to blame with this unending Syrian conflict. civil war ng isang bansa nakikialam sila. same thing they did in Vietnam and they managed to come out the heroes hahaha. anyways, this type of opinion is not really popular so just sharing my point of view.

china naman is only after their own interests. wala silang pakialam sa ibang bansa, sa nature, sa mga batas na hinde naman nila sinang-ayonan. mahirap magtiwala sa kanila.

saying all these, i want the Philippines to be independent. really and truly independent. i know mahirap pa tayo ngayon but kung kanina man tayo makikipag alliance, sana yung hinde tayo dehado. yung hinde lang tayo magiging tagasunod forever.  at seriously, ipinagdadasal ko nalang na sana yung mga choices ni duterte at ng officials nya will be the right ones. kampante kasi ako ngayon na si duterte at ang cabinet nya are not there for the power, money, or fame so i guess it's easier for me to trust them.

sis I read one of Sass' post re foreign relations and policies. Naisip ko pwede nga naman, maybe it's about time for us to explore other options.

"The aid Manila gets from Washington is substantial — although it may pale next to the investment that could potentially flow from regional economic powerhouse China, where Duterte is expected to visit in October in a bid to improve ties with Beijing."

Two quick observations:

1. Notice the difference: US gives us "aid"; China provides "investments." The difference between LIMOS and INVESTMENT: One treats us as a beggar; the other as a partner, who sees our potential, hence they invest. Remember it wasn't decades of Western aid that helped Africa leap forward, but Chinese investments.

2. That Beijing's potential investment would be way more substantial than Washington's aid is exactly the reason Duterte is pivoting towards China. The Philippines' foreign policy is becoming more selfish and rightfully so. Hedge, exploit the rivalry, get the better deal.

A good read on the effect of China's "investments" in Latin America.

"China’s investments have often been designed merely to facilitate its own access to a particular natural resource deposit rather than the public good"

",Chinese projects have often been largely exploitative and unsustainable"

The bombing of US is usually by request of the leaders of that country. It will be actually commendable if China fought the barbaric terrorist ISIS. China also spend huge amount of money in their military. In 2015, the Chinese government's official defense spending figure was $146 billion. Knowing China is a bully, it is a global concern.

Conspiracy theory.  I am not portraying USA as a hero. But we must look at the details here. I will ask you, tama ba o hindi na labanan ang barbaric ISIS?

I'm not pro-china and I'm not anti US. Take advantage what both has to offer, at iwasan and be prepared sa mga exploitation nila.

@yelle, I love reading Sass’ points on Chinese alliance/non-alliance. It’s something different from what I have always believed in. This is why I don’t have a firm stand on US or China relations with Philippines. It’s just that I admire China’s patriotism, the same way I admire Koreans, Japanese, Singaporeans. These are the kind of race that keep strong ties with their roots and traditions. I wish we could be like them.

But nevertheless, if duterte wants to cut ties with US, the least he could do is to do it gracefully, as much as possible. If countries in Asia unite, we could be the most powerful region. And I wonder, bakit kaya hinde nagkakaisa ang mga taga-Asia?

China is a communist country. One party, the communist party rules, with its top leader as dictator. Russia, although, democracy na KUNO ngayon is also ruled with an iron grip by Putin.

USA is a democratic country and although it has its faults, it "tries" to at least regulate the world order. And it's economy is the largest in the world, even China is a far far 2nd. It also has the largest nuclear weapon arsenal (secretly) and the most modern armed forces and it appalls me where Duterte gets his gall to listen more to his communist masquerading as leftists friends than upheld the ideals of democracy that the US represents and do around the world.

The mess in Syria now is because of Russia propping up dictator Bashar al-Assad. His government would have collapsed already and the Syrian rebels would now have won supported by the western democracies of US, UK, Western Europe etc. Before the civil war, Syria has a state-sponsored program of Islamic terrorism in tandem with Iran.

And of course, North Korea. Just google, tutal andito kayo, for sure makakapag search naman ata kayo. N. Korea is supported by China. Look at how N. korea and S. Korea is. Look at how their economies and how its people are. Wag tayong magbulagbulahgan.

Ang sa akin lang. I support Duterte in almost all fronts but not on this BS of alienating our country and tarnishing our international image of being a democratic and progressive country.

I guess walang perpektong leader. Bakit kailangan lagi syang may presscon when these presscons brings damage than whata presscon should do which is to make a leader look good.

It's for the country's good anyway. President's come and go but the country remains.

I was all pro-USA, until I read this loooong comment from a Duterte supporter that made me change my mind a little....

As an American observer, I would strongly urge him to break ties with the U.S. outside of basic diplomatic relations. The U.S. is primarily interested in involving the Philippines in another colonial game of Risk. You want to rid the Philippines of drugs and prostitution? Keep American military bases far, far away. Once the American military is able to establish bases, they will insist upon selling your government equipment that they cannot afford.
The Philippines is fortunate in that it does not really have a need for a navy or large standing army. Want to keep it that way? Again, keep out the U.S. military. Unless you too want to be dragged into global wars of conquest, regime change, have your government plunge further into debt and risk increased terrorism blow back, urge Duterte to not align with Washington.
What does my country primarily export to the world that's so useful? Pornography, garbage music, mindless sports fanaticism and violence. America is also the world's largest arms dealer and guess who they'd love to sell to? Obama is not a man to admire. Some of you spineless, weak-willed people complain about drug dealers and addicts being gunned down as if it is so horrible and barbaric. What's worse? Leaving the drug trade alone to continue to flourish and increasingly ruin your country or to eliminate it by killing the criminals? Duterte isn't really your problem, it is the long line of leaders you've elected who took money to look the other way while it continued.
So why would Washington be against extra judicial killings that they themselves do routinely? It isn't the deaths they're worried about, after all, what do dead Filipinos matter to them? Why is it none of you remember you fought and lost against Washington during the Philippine-American war? They admit to murdering well over a million men, women and children, but other sources place it over 3 million. How come you don't learn that in your American organized education system? Is it because Washington loves you so much?
Washington's involvement in Vietnam came about not because of France's colonial problems in the region, but because Washington was involved in opium sales. Having communists stand up and try to free themselves from this was a threat as Washington used this money to fund CIA programs to overthrow governments hostile to its political will.
The British first had control over the opium production and sales in China. The opium wars permitted Britain to solidify control over much of China by using arms to force Chinese into buying and using opium (look it up). America took over this trade from Britain after WWI. Washington decided to protect its drug trade with CNAC (China National Aviation Corporation) by establishing Chenault's Flying Tigers. They are not heroes, but illegal mercenaries used to protect this trade from Japanese air power that was trying to eliminate it.
During Vietnam, the drug trade was revived and a new corporation was formed named Air America. They began literally shipping in heroin from Cambodia and Laos. They paid those farmers to grow heroin and gave them rice so they didn't have to grow it. In the 80's, the CIA moved to Central & South America because Cocaine products were easier to ship in without an opposing communist government resisting by shooting down planes.
Drug selling is as American as Apple Pie. Because drugs are so profitable, we have legalized drugs called pharmaceuticals. Some of which still are made from opium.
In reality, Duterte is seen as an enemy for cutting into this long history and profitable drug trade. His killing of addicts (customers) and dealers (salesman) cuts into the profit margin that is in turn invested in Wall Street and deposited into big transnational banks. Many of our politicians rely on campaign money from Wall Street and these mega banks. Duterte is going to create financial pain for Washington as more nations decide to eliminate drug use by their own war on drugs. You see the problem?
How many of you can name countries China or Russia have invaded? How many countries do they have drones flying over to launch missiles at people they declare terrorists? Russia and China are building economic ties that do not include using the U.S. Dollar. Russia is openly fighting ISIS while America is well known to have funded and trained the groups that formed ISIS. Do you want to be aligned with all that?
Those of you who see Duterte's possible alignment with Russia and China should know that it will likely bring about peace and prosperity down the road. The failed American empire is beyond broke and has a military that can no longer field aircraft that function properly, ships that break down at sea and is initiating hostilities all over the globe in an effort to revive itself through another world war where it can assert control over defeated enemies, as it did after WWII.
Maybe you don't like Duterte's methods, but his actions have a purpose. Instead of crying over dead criminals and drug addicts, maybe you should be concerned over your own future if he fails.

Legal ba yung pag interve nila sa Syria? Wala naman palang invitation galing sa government.  Sabi ng al-Asaad sa interview last week he tried to reach out the UN para makiusap na to stop the bombing pero hindi siya pinakinggan.

ABout China--- I am not Pro-China mga bully sila.

At sana shut up nalang si PDuterte, hindi ko malaman bakit ang init ng dugo nya sa US.

Russia is also bombing Syria pero may pahintulot ni Assad.

Bawat bansa may kani-kanyang skeletons o agenda yan, be it China,US, Russia etc.

^sis Itcha and lizzietseng the mysterious case of Michael Meiring(a suspected CIA operative) yan sumabog yung tinutuluyan niyang kwarto sa isang hotel sa davao napag-alaman na may daladala pala siyang bomba. Duterte in one of his presscon. According nga kay sen.

There was this operation called Operation Gladio first revealed by Italian Prime Minister Giulio Andreotti in 1991. According to BBC documentary is s about a far-right secret army, operated by the CIA and MI6 through NATO, which killed hundreds of innocent Europeans and attempted to blame the deaths on Baader Meinhof, Red Brigades and other left wing groups. Known as 'stay-behinds' these armies were given access to military equipment which was supposed to be used for sabotage after a Soviet invasion. Instead it was used in massacres across mainland Europe as part of a CIA Strategy of Tension. Gladio killing sprees in Belgium and Italy were carried out for the purpose of frightening the national political classes into adopting U.S. policies.

Ang essence ng operation Gladio(from the latin word of sword):

'You had to attack civilians, the people, women, children, innocent people, unknown people far removed from any political game. The reason was quite simple: to force ... the public to turn to the state to ask for greater security." - A sworn testimony of Gladio agent Vincenzo Vinciguerra.

This was the essence of Operation Gladio, a decades-long covert campaign of terrorism and deceit directed by the intelligence services of the West -- against their own populations. Hundreds of innocent people were killed or maimed in terrorist attacks -- on train stations, supermarkets, cafes and offices -- which were then blamed on "leftist subversives" or other political opponents. The purpose, as stated above in sworn testimony by Gladio agent Vincenzo Vinciguerra, was to demonize designated enemies and frighten the public into supporting ever-increasing powers for government leaders -- and their elitist cronies.
