UPDATE/EDIT as of April 27

ASSOCIATE MEMBER:

CAPITAL CONTRIBUTION (they call the BLUE? Or is it GREEN? Passbook).
Max you can put in this account is only P1Mio.
BUT you can't open an account & plunk in 1mio agad. Nope
You can only deposit 30thou! per Quarter
As of now -- interest is NET 15.5percent -- payable on the the 25th day of the month after each quarter's end:  APRIL 25, July 25, Oct 25 & Jan 25

     SAVINGS ACCOUNT  (RED Pssbk)
Earns NET 3percent p.a. --  NO LIMIT - you can put in any amount you want but pay-out of interest is same as for CapCon acct.  Interest based on ADB (Ave Daily Bal)

Now they have a 3rd passbook:  YELLOW for the Estd Dividend A--
What an inconvenience!
I gotta go file and get it myself. Can't have my messenger file for me.
But once I get that YELLOW EDA passbook daw, next time puede na uli just the authorized messenger of mine to puck up my check.  Grrrr

So,  sa AFPSLAI:  only 2 accts:  15.5% or 3%

Sa PSSLAI, if you can qualify there --

17%NET interest for CAPITAL CONTRIBUTION A account
Associate member Max is 3mio;  can put in only 100thou per quarter.
Dividends paid out 2x a year only:  July & January

The Savings earns 3percent NET -  for deposits over 100thou & below 150thou
                           4percent NET - below
                       5percent NET - below 3mio

PSSLAI has a 7percent net for 3mio up placements BUT lock-in is 1 year.

Better AFPSLAI or stock market?
1st, you are constrained by the max amt per quarter AFPSLAI allows you to put in your Capital Contribution account.
Gusto mo man tapunan ng 1mio on account opening date -- no dice.
So, what's 30thou per qtr deposit in your CapCon 15.5% account? Do it, then attack the stock market.

But it's more like: NET 3percent or stock market?  That's considerng AFPSLAI, not PSSLAI.
Personally, I go for the stock market.
My basket of stocks yield me 5percent net earnings p.a. Minimum.  That's my personal minimum.
You gotta do a basket of stocks -- nalugi ka man sa 1 or 2 stocks, most probably bawi  mo sa ibang stocks.
Otherwise, mag aral ka muna how to invest quesa you get burned.

And of course there's the principal protection consideration.   You can lose your shirt fast sa stock market.  Iba na yung safe sa AFPSLAI.  but that of course depends on your risk profile.

Thank you for your input. It's greatly appreciated.

Pwede bang once I reached 100k sa afpslai, I can go enter stock market by then? Lumiit na ata interest ng afpslai compared before pero sa colfinancial its 8% dividend lang right?

I am a member this year lang pero automatic na GREEN passbook yung bingay sakin.

so when I arrived home, mom asked me, "Bat ganyan ang passbook mo, dapat RED?"

Hassle: pag badly needed ka ng money or emergency, you cannot withdraw on weekends (Of course!) hehe

Pila ng mahaba. I don't know at least I was able to open an account na noon pa sinasabe ng mommy ko..

^tama naman -- check your passbook. It's a CAPITAL CONTRIBUTION account. 15.5percent NET interest.
The Red is a Savings Account that earns 3percent.

Yes, treat it like a 1yr Time Deposit, not a S/A.

Nowadays, Max you can put in the CapCon acct is  30thou only per quarter.  So try to max 30thou deposit every quarter. Interest is given out only per quarter too:  starting on the 25th day of the month AFTER a quarter ends.  Kaya yang interest mo eh hindi mo magamit as deposit to your CapCon.

I advise you to go get your EDA (yellow acct) na. Tapos na yung stampede of APRIL 25, lol.   Everytime you collect your dividend check -  you must present that yellow/EDA passbook.  Be sure to bring your green CapCon and AFPSLAI ID.

If your parents are employed with the PNP, open accounts with PSSLAI - rates are higher.
Dati, people who qualify for AFPSLAI accounts could get PSSLAI accounts.  Now, no more; but AFPSLAI still accepts people who qualify for PSSLAI accounts -- but that will change soon (nagre-reklamo PSSLAI).

We have accounts in both kasi our Lolo was a PC general.  AFPSLAI was for all in the military. Tapos yung PC naging PNP; and eventually PSSLAI was set up,  so we qualified  for that too.

For AFPSLAI & PSSLAI:  Principals are those employed by the AFP/ PNP.  The spouse , children and grandchildren can open accounts. Spouses of children and grandchildren are not allowed to have accounts.
Hahaha, dyan nag umpisa my secret accounts.  Lalo na noon,  sa AFPSLAI Max CapCon for dependents was 3mio, earning net 22percent.

Pwede bang once I reached 100k sa afpslai, I can go enter stock market by then? Lumiit na ata interest ng afpslai compared before pero sa colfinancial its 8% dividend lang right?

Ang AFPSLAI kasi -- you can put in only 30thou per quarter in the CapCon acct that earns net 15.5 percent.  What you do in between is anything you want.  But IMO, mas okay punuin  mo muna the 1million Max  that gives you 15.5percent NET -- prioritize that.

AFPSLAI vs stock market? Up to you. Depende sa funds mo and risk profile.
Sa akin  kasi, AFPSLAI & PSSLAI are no-brainers.   Once our Lola opened accts for us all grandchildren -- I wrote out PDCs an accountant  deposited a week before the 1st 3 days of the quarter (para wala pila).
I invest in real property to lease or re-sell, before I turn to the stock market.  As a mom of 3 and a hands-on business owner, I do not have the time to manage my stocks daily, or even weekly.  Kaya sumemplang ako 1 year na I earned only 5percentNet on my stocks.  My target for stocks now is only 10percent return. (My husband earns much  more on his portfolio, but he trades as a hobby on the NYSE & he is an aggressive investor.  Sometimes, when business is not as hectic -- I trade daily on the NYSE too. Oo, mas maganda kita within a month pero tutukan mo daily. Sa local stock market --  para hindi ako sumemplang with just a measly 5percent net return -- my strategy is to buy when the market is down.  Konti tiaga, I unload in 2-6 months.  My strategy may change -- depende kasi sa takbo ng other investment alternatives.  You must make every peso work kasi).

Oo,  AFPSLAI a few years ago was 22percent NET.  But well, it's practically risk-free so kahit na down to 15.5percent -- go. :). No brainer, 1mio pinatulig mo.
Since my main investment item in my portfolio is real estate --  when wala akong immediate use for my funds, I put millions in the AFPSLAI or PSSLAI 3percent NET.  Kasi 60day placements are now down to 1.5percent in banks. Susko.

Sis bakit ganon, bakit yung green passbook lang binigay sayo?

Anyway im really torn what to open first.. if apslai ba muna or colfinancial.. Kasi if afpslai atleast pag hindi ako umokay sa colfinancial, i have other savings parin.. Thats what im thinking..kasi risk taker talaga ako.

But syempre, i really wanna invest and sobrang aggressive ako kaya gusto ko na agad magsimula sa colfinancial instead of asplai..  :'(

Pwede pa ba ako mag open ulet? hehe

Ako sis, inuna ko muna yung AFPSLAI, planning din ako n g COL or UITF either BPI or SB. Torn between the 2.

^look at what it says on your passbook:  CAPITAL CONTRIBUTION
Your savings earn  NET 15.5percent

Yes, you can also at the same time open the RED passbook:  SAVINGS
That earns only NET 3percent based on Average Daily Balance

You can withdraw anytime from the 2 accounts BUT it will affect your interest earnings.

Did you deposit only 30thou?  Maybe you didn't ask to deposit more kaya ka hindi na offer ng Red/Savings account.

Do not be shy about asking questions when you intend to let go of your funds in anticipation of earning more.  Sure, you will learn through experience -- hopefully, not from a painful experience --  but it pays to be armed with info.   It pays to be well-informed, whatever your risk profile is. Max Info and Timing matter.

There are 2 kinds of members:  the PRINCIPAL - employee or member of the Armed Forces
And the ASSOCIATE member:  ang spouse, child and grandchildren of the Principal.  Children-in-law and grandchildren-in-law can NOT be AFPSLAI members.

Whether Principal or Associate member:  you can have BOTH the Green and Red passbooks, and the Yellow 1 too.
The GREEN (sorry, may PSSLAI din kasi ako so I get confused with the colors; blue sa PSSLAI eh)

GREEN passbook = CAPITAL CONTRIBUTION.   It is printed there in front of the passbook.
The interest may go down from year to year. It went to as high as NET 22Percent years ago, now it is down to NET 15.5 p.a.

The Rules common to ALL members with regards to the Green/CapCon account:
         1.  You can deposit only every 1st 3 or 5 days of each quarter. (Sorry, cannot remember if first 3 or first 5 days kasi matagal Ko na reach the 1mio Max deposit allowed)
So, IF you have not reached the maximum deposit yet:  you can add to your account only on Jan 1-3, APRIL 1-3, July 1-3 and Oct. 1-3. After that, no more deposits accepted for the current quarter.
        2.  If you wanna withdraw your INTEREST, it is allowed only every quarter too,  starting on the 25th day of the month AFTER a quarter.
So, you can start withdrawing only on and after April 25, July 25, SEPT 25 and Jan 25.

For ASSOCIATE Members, the Rules for the Green/CapCon account:
      1.  You can DEPOSIT ONLY 30THOU PER QTR
(This is the latest rule; dati 100thou tapos trim down to 50thou; tapos ayan MAXIMUM DEPOSIT PER 1st 3 DAYS OF EACH QTR TO GREEN/CAPCON account is 30THOUSAND)
      2.  MAXIMUM DEPOSIT to GREEN/CAPCON account is 1MILLION.
(Once upon a time, 3Million. When this last rule came - we had to take out our excess 2million).

You can withdraw any amount from your Green/CapCon acct anytime BUT your interest will significantly go down.
To what interest? Depends on when you withdraw and how much stays in your CapCon acct.

ALL MEMBERS may open a RED/SAVINGS account.
It earns NET 3 percent
No max deposit, no account maximum too
You can deposit anytime, withdraw too anytime... Interest is based on Average Daily Balance
But you cannot treat it as a regular bank savings account. There are limits to how many times you withdraw before they lower your interest
You can withdraw the interest same sched as for the Green/CapCon account.

If you told the teller/new accounts person you want to deposit more than 30thou -- automatic Bibigyan ka ng RED/Savings account.  I am quite sure you were asked how much you were depositing.  If You got confused about the 30thou and didn't get the Red account from my earlier post -- I hope this post clarifies it.

What did you check on the form asking how you want to get your dividends/interest on the Green/CapCon account??
I chose to have it in checks to be picked up from AFPSLAI.
My mom chose to have hers deposited to a Landbank account.  (ayaw Ko  na maintain another account just for those dividends.  Landbank isn't 1 of my 4 existing banks.)
Next time you go -- ask what the other options are para makuha mo your dividends.

May 1 option dyan, as long as your interest for the quarter  does not go over 30thou -- AFPSLAI automatically keeps your interest as principal in the Green/CapCon account. So it is up to you if habulin mo pa to fill up the kulang to complete the 30thou.
IF sobra Naman - they will put it automatically in the Red/Savings acct the amount over 30thou for the quarter.

So, you check on that form how you want AFPSLAI to deal with your interest.

The new YELLOW passbook is the EDA (I am abroad now & can't chk the exact name. Basta EDA :). )
Nagka gulo last April 25-27 kasi DEADLINE daw for opening of the YELLOW Passbk to be able to get the interest for the Jan-March quarter.
You present your GREEN Passbook with your AFPSLAI ID & you fill up 2 forms
Eto, warning:  IF on your passbook meron ka ka-and/or (kami lahat ganon kasi in case anything happens, makuha pa din the funds di ba na hindi pa hold for BIR;  or if we are abroad, somebody else can get the interest check) --  that person must also sign your 2 forms.

Then they issue you the Yellow passbook.
Have that updated. Then you can get your interest.
Como I chose to pick up checks from AFPSLAI -- no need to pila to update the Yellow passbook. I just presented it together with my AFPSLAI ID & Green passbook to be able to get my CapCon interest check.
Find out the procedure for whatever collection method you choose.

I went myself with all my cousins kasi to get the Yellow passbook -- you must show your face.
A messenger is the 1 who picks up my and my family's and cousins' post-quarter checks: so, we send an Authorization letter,  our AFPSLAI IDs & Green passbooks; and now, add that Yellow passbook.

My Red/Savings, I do not get the interest -  add on na Lang yon to my principal.
But I think that is not reflected in the Yellow passbook. "I  think ".---   better check.

I hope the above clarified the different accounts.
2 Lang Naman sa AFPSLAI:  the Green/Capital Contribution account with Net 15.5% p.a. Interest
                                      & the Red/Savings Account with Net 3% p.a. Interest.
Whether you are a Principal,or Associate Member, you can have both accounts
The difference Lang is in the maximum deposit per quarter to the Green/CapCon & the maximum deposit allowed for that account.
Yung Red/Savings: same same rules for all

I'm a member of AFPSLAI (green passbook holder)

2.  MAXIMUM DEPOSIT to GREEN/CAPCON account is 1MILLION.
^Sana last limit to the rule na ito. Pababa nang pababa :O

So any amount na sobra sa 1M is dapat i-withdraw mo? Or iauto-transfer sa red passbook?

So any amount na sobra sa 1M is dapat i-withdraw mo? Or iauto-transfer sa red passbook?
^. Open the Green Acct before the quarter ends parang hindi ka nakiki pag siksikan with the crowd on the first 3 days of the quarter.
Even if you have only 1thou in excess of 30thou - they should let you open the Red/Savings account.
Technically, they should let you open the Red acct anytime, Average Daily Bal Naman basis for the interest.
But best to inquire yourself. They keep on changing the rules.  We've had our accounts for a long time, once we turned 18 -  so, I actually just maintain my accounts.

So any amount na sobra sa 1M is dapat i-withdraw mo? Or iauto-transfer sa red passbook?

Before, the max for Associate members was 3mio.
They wrote us to say 1mio na Lang allowed for CapCon /Green accounts of Associate members.
It will not be automatically transferred to the Red/Savings acct if AFPSLAI trims down the max amt again.  What is automatically transferred to the Red/Savings is any INTEREST amount in excess of the Max deposit per quarter - IF you signed the appropriate form for that
So you go (as we did) to withdraw (arrange beforehand to pick up your check) & transfer the excess principal. If that happens, sure you can turn around and deposit to your red account.  NET2.00 p.a. Is what I get for my 90 days nowadays.  So that 3percent is better.
( At the time we had to remove the excess 2mio, we could still get Net12percent from our banks. So we did not bother with the red acct)

So, bottom line - the Red/Savings is worth putting funds in now since banks give max net 2percent for 90 days.  But you cannot treat that as a regular savings account.  But being able to get hold of your interest after every quarter isn't too bad.

----------

As I cited previously, check if your Principal Member qualifies to become a PSSLAI member.
So you can open an account.
The net interest rates are higher.
The interest on savings is tiered, best is the Net 7percent for 1-year hold-out deposits of over 3million.
Capital Contribution is net 17percent; max deposit per qtr is now 100thou (up from 50thou) for Associate members.
BUT interest is withdraw able only every 6months:  July 25 onwards & Jan 25 onwards.
Google PSSLAI,  info is all there.

Thank you for the clarification sis aquacharly...

Hmmm... What about taking advantage of Loans? hehehheh

If yes?

1. Can an associate member (Like me dependent) may apply for a loan?
2. How much is the savings amount needed?
3. How much can he/she loan?

Naku sis when I was in the counter to inform them that I would like to open an account, "NEVER nagtanong how much ang idedeposit" Talagang Green agad ang hawak ni ate employee when I was waiting in the line sitting. Hehehhe

@ hellacious-  AFAIK, the minimum is 1k. I was never asked how much ang ilalagay ko pera.. Hmmm....

I wanna ask lang if I should have my Dad(Police) accompany me when I open an account with both AFPSLAI and PSSLAI.

And since almost November na so 1k initial contribution lang muna ang allowed right? My goal is to open an account nalang muna then put money during the dates you mentioned above. :)
