Is it true that they have recently disallowed personal vows in SSJ?

Confused nga ako about personal vows. We are told na bawal na ang personal vows. Then after a few weeks ng wedding namen may napanuod akong SDE na nag personal vows sa SSJ. We actually didn't mind at first, ok lang sana walang personal vows, kasi bawal na nga eh. But I'm still a bit disappointed na hindi naman pala talaga bawal but they told us na bawal daw.

^Hi Sis hindi ba kayo magpersonal vow sa church? Waaahh. I thought dati bawal pero sa dami ng napanood kong SDE sa SSJ, parang laging meron. Sana pwede.   :-\

Our wedding is over sis. Hindi kame nag personal vow. Tapos may napanuod kameng SDE na later date than our wedding sa SSJ din, may personal vows sila.

I think personal vows are no longer allowed in SSJ. I've attended 2 weddings there this year.  And both couples did personal vows -- however they did it after the "official" part of the ceremony was over. The priest let them "share a special message to each other" after the ceremony, before pictorials.

Maybe this is what you guys are seeing in the SDEs? It's a good way to get around the rule hehe :)

Ah ok baka yun nga yon. after na siguro yun.

Actually I still prefer the traditional wedding vows. Kasi sobrang lalim na nung vows na till death do us part kesa sa kung ano anong pinapangako lang. Haha.  ;D

We actually made the missalette na sasabihin namen sa each other yung traditional vows pero separate kame magsasalita. Kaso ewan ko ba kay father, pinagsabay kame.

Would you happen to know if they brought their own priest or from SSJ din?

^^ I agree with the use of traditional vows. I think the traditional vows trump whatever personal vow you can write. Saka the Catholic sacrament of marriage need to follow a certain form, di pwede baguhin for the sake of romanticism.

Madami naman opportunities for sharing sweet words and promises to each other. Usually couples exchange letters before the wedding or pwede din during the reception a short speech.

Actually I am a believer of the sacred and traditional vows too. Personal vows on the other hand to me means a lot when done in church cos it makes it more sacred and heartfelt because its in front of God, plus its more direct and based on how you know the person kasi personal. Yun naman ata ang essence kung bakit nagkaron ng ganun to begin with. Not just for SDEs.  :) But that's fine if its done after the ceremony para it won't disrupt the Catholic matrimony. :D

Hello fellow SSJ brides!

Just wanted to let everyone know that SSJ still allows personal messages to each other depending on the priest officiating the ceremony.  In our case, we had Fr. Alex, their parish priest officiate our wedding and I inquired about doing the personal vows during our canonical interview with him and he said that it is fine.
In case you are interested in doing this, make sure to request for Fr. Alex to officiate the ceremony nalang.

Be warned though, that they only assign the officiating priests on the week of the wedding itself unless you're bringing your own priest.  During the week of our wedding, my coord called the SSJ parish office to confirm kung si Fr. Alex nga and they said na he had an appointment that day so our wedding will be assigned to another priest.

Upon hearing this, syempre nagalit yung coord ko and said na we thought this has been set, etc. The only saving grace was that we were personally endorsed by a family friend that happens to be a big patron of the church, as in, SSJ holds Sunday mass service in their house every Sunday because the grandma can't walk and go to church anymore.  So when they checked our files, the lady from the parish office asked my coord: "Ay, ito po ba yung kay Mrs. Pxxxx? Sige po, okay na po, si Fr. Alex na.  Ipapa-cancel nalang daw po nya appointment nya that day".

Moral of the story is either bring your own officiating priest or really insist na si Fr. Alex yung mag-officiate ng wedding.

I'm also a big believer of the traditional Catholic vows, and I don't think they should be replaced in any way, shape or form.  I mean, that's the whole point of getting married in Church diba?  As for me, I didn't really consider our "personal vows" as vows.  We wanted to say our personal messages to each other because it makes the entire ceremony more personal and intimate, and it's not everyday we get to recite heartfelt and meaningful things to our spouses so it's only very fitting to say these messages to each other in front of all our loved ones.

I also wanted to add na we said our personal messages to each other right after reciting our vows.  After reciting our vows, Fr. Alex turned to us and asked : "Do you have any messages for each other that you would like to share with everyone?"

In case any of you would like to see our SDE with snippets of our messages, just check out this link:

I hope this helps ladies! :)

@Tinsflor : Yes, thanks for the info!

For those who hired a band or strings, did you really contact Ronald to upgrade the sound system or did you bring your own? When I paid my reservation kasi and I brought up the name Ronald to the lady in the SSJ office, she does not seem to be aware of him.

Hello @pinkymoscato?Just spoke to Ronald and upgrades are still needed. From the conversation, we gathered that there's still the 3.5k to upgrade the songs and an additional 1.5k to upgrade the sound system. I think overall his prices have increased na. hehe So overall 5,000 php.

^ Really sis? We went to SSJ's admin office 3 weeks ago.. Sabi nila no need for upgrade daw kasi okay naman daw ang sound system. We have our own Strings kasi, so hindi rin namin ia-avail yung singer ni sir Ronald.  :-\ Hmm, I'll ask na lang ulit 1 month before the wedding.  :) Thanks sis!
