You are not alone mga sis, hindi talaga siya friendly and there was this one time na andun kami may mga chinese clients na galit na galit sa kanya because of miscommunication, tapos nung turn na namin hindi naman sya friendly man lang ang pinipilit nya na "maganda" daw yung sketch kahit na sinabi na hindi na gusto yung ilang parts ng gown

Wow. More stories about Mel's attitude. I used to defend her because she was so nice and accommodating to us, but I had to delete my posts about that around two months before the wedding because of our experience with her.

Early on, she already allowed me to choose and reserve a lace for my all-lace gown, so I did. Months later, I then reaffirmed my choice. However, a week after reaffirming my choice, I had a change of heart and asked if I could replace my lace. She agreed and just informed me that I would have to add 5k for the new lace to which my mum and I agreed. I then made sure that her assistant put my name inside the lace's plastic. I recall her assistant calling their production house informing them about the change.

When we returned for my fitting, we were surprised to see that the old lace was used as appliqués for my gown. Mum then nicely asked that it seems like the lace used was the old one. Then the staff said that the lace used was the one we chose. Mum responded, again in a nice and cool manner, that we had that changed and Michel even wrote my name inside the plastic of the new lace. Then Mel butt in, saying that she was there when we chose the lace that was used and even asked me if I was already sure. Mum, still very cool and composed, said that yes we reaffirmed that choice but we went back a week after to ask if we can have the lace replaced to which they agreed kaya nga there was an additional 5k.

It was at this point that we saw Mel's attitude that I've read from here. She was raising her voice saying that it's unfair daw, hindi naman daw pwede na ganoon, pinapili ako tapos papalitan ko, tapos kung kelan nagawa na then mag-reklamo kami. Mum in a still composed manner responded by explaining that we asked if we can still replace the lace to which Mel agreed. Sobrang pikon na ako during this time, but I was thinking that it was only 2 months away from the wedding and I don't need the added stress of looking for a new designer. So I asked my mum to stop arguing because wala nang magagawa (but I was saying this loudly para matamaan si Mel because I was really annoyed).

She could have just apologized for her assistant's mistake, but she chose to raise her voice and insisting on something that was really factually wrong. Mum and I could have easily engaged her in a debate (especially because we're both lawyers), but we decided not to because we didn't have the luxury of time.

After that altercation, Mel talked to Michel, the assistant, outside her atelier. Then when they went back inside, she became nice to me again and made adjustments to my gown while I was fitting it. She was also nice during subsequent fittings. In all fairness to her, we never saw her throw a bitchfit again.

I would have given her a failing mark because of that incident, but a lot of our family and friends (mum included) told me how pretty my gown was. Mum said baka daw bumawi samin kaya ginandahan. Haha! Anyway, if I could turn back time, I'm not sure if I would book her again.

^Oh my goodness!! Caleeice did Mel eventually change the lace appliques on your gown to the one you really approved after sorting it out with her assistant? I am so glad though that your gown turned out well in the end! I can imagine how stressful a situation like that can be!

I feel that next to the wedding coordinator, that your working relationship with your designer is really important. Every time I visit my designer I feel like I am visiting a friend!  We chat and I feel like there is genuine interest and concern from her. There is not a single ounce of diva behavior in her.

Chili, I did not change it anymore because I think she's given the "new" lace to someone else. We could have insisted, but it's really not worth the added stress. I really tried not to become a bridezilla because I didn't want to start our life together on the wrong foot. At the end of the day, it's just a dress. What's important is that you're marrying your fiance and building your family with him :)

Sis caleeice did she at least give you back your 5k?

In fairness to her, she removed it from the total cost when my mum asked. We had no problems regarding that.

Oh no.. Hearing these comments about mel makes me regret booking her. Measurement taking ko pa naman next week and I dont want to look for another designer anymore. I just hope shes in a good mood..

very good thinking sis caleeice.. :) don't let the dress ruin everything you've planned.

Don't worry sis mdnextdoor.. take note of everything na lang.. she provides contract naman siguro.. ? .. or might as well take a photo if you have a specific fabric, lace or any swatch that you've requested as proof para walang lusot if ever..

Sis belle, im not sure if may contract. I took a picture of her initial sketch, though. Siguro nga that's what i'll do next week. Mas detailed na lahat e. I'd better take pictures of every material she will use for documentation.

mdnextdoor, they do provide contract. I learned from one of our fellow GT brides na she was provided a contract by Mel, so I asked for one. Not sure lang if you can be very detailed sa contract about your gown design. But you can try and ask for it from her assistant  :)

mdnextdoor, not sure if you'd consider this as overkill but make copies of everything too? I usually take photos of documents as evidence (haven't done it yet for my wedding since wala pa booked suppliers, but I do this all the time when travelling). This is at least so when you meet with Mel and forgot the contract, you can refer to the photos instead. After fittings or discussions, you can take photos of the lace selected etc too so you can refer to those later on..

As an aside na rin, I was a bridesmaid to a Mel Orlina bride 3 months ago. The only interaction I had with her was 1 fitting, and even then it was her assistants who helped me (this was on the week before the wedding). I observed her dealings with my friend and other brides-to-be while waiting for my turn and she was very accommodating and quite kalog (I took a liking to her instantly). What really impressed me though was the fact that how she helped my friend: Mel was only supposed to do the entourage dresses; my friend had a separate designer for her own gown. The other designer made a mess of things and my friend wasn't at all happy with the output. She brought it to Mel a few weeks before the wedding - Mel then stripped it down and made a completely different dress from it. My friend was very happy and though it's sad to hear about recent stories I'd like to think Mel will continue to come through for her brides..

Wow.. That's a relief. Same here. The first interaction i had with mel was really ok and I posted the story about it in a different thread. That made me book her. It's kind of sad though to hear these things about her. I guess we all have our good and bad days. Anyway, i'll be seeing her next week. Hopefully everything turns out well.

^ caleeice, I'm glad everything worked out for your wedding day. Props to you for keeping your cool :) I think it's not uncommon for designers to have good days and bad days but it's a huge no-no to let it out on a client.

I've also had slight communication issues with my designer but we were able to resolve everything and I'm glad that my working relationship with her is okay. I still love her! But moving forward, I decided to email all my requests so that it's documented well.

sad to hear about nega feedback of Mel, she's my favorite pa naman among all the suppliers we've booked so far. met her only once and it was the best meeting ive had among other designers. i was alone but she made me feel comfortable. she took the time to get to know me and what i want and dont want for my gown. siguro on our next meetings, ill be extra careful with the details na lang to be safe.

@ sis caleeice bilib talaga ko that you didn't go bridezilla on her. glad to know it all worked out well in the end :)

Ang hirap naman maghanap ng gown na pasok sa budget huhu.
Don't want to spend more than 20k sa gown hahaha!

Natatakot din ako magdivisoria sa dami ng bad reviews.
Lahat ng natanong ko about my gown peg minimum is 40k.

True that sis toria. That's also my initial budget and I'll try to stick with it  :) But if all efforts exhausted na and wala talaga ko makita na ganung range sa mga pegs ko, I can stretch the budget to up to 40k. But that's the max. I really don't want to spend a lot for a gown that I'll use for one day lang but I also don't want to wear something na hindi ko naman feel. More research and inquire inquire pa sis. If you find a good deal, share it sis ha  ;)

^Thanks sis! Actually I'm planning din magtingin tingin sa mall.
Madami na din magagandang RTW dresses na pwedeng wedding gown ha ha.

I was able to talk to Teena Sabrina, sabi nya napaguusapan naman kung anong gown ang pasok sa budget. Magaan din ang loob ko sakanya. If wala na talaga baka mastretch ko din ang budget ko, pero 40k is too much na din for me.
