If one fund is better than the other why would they bother offering both right?  ;)

Which fund is better depends on your goal's timeline and risk appetite.
The balanced fund is for those with less risk appetite and a shorter goal
vs the index fund.

Hi, pa advise naman. So nag invest ako sa sunlife 4 months ago, i got this Sun MaxiLink Bright Plan. I don't know if tama ba nakuha ko or not. I need 100k next year and i got this plan thinking na this would be better than keeping my money sa bank, iniisip ko na maybe it would be a great investment kasi covered ako sa health or whatever benefits sa plan na to. Nahahati ako sa dalawa e, like i dont have to worry about anything about sa health when i reach 29 years old kasi done na ako sa plan. Pero parang this plan is for long term talaga, Maybe i'll start na lang pag 28 years old na ako. Can i convert my present plan to Mutual funds? Can i withdraw the money i deposited (except the charges) na napay ko sa plan ko?

Goal ko kasi is to save up atleast 100k by next year and impossible makuha yun ng ganon lang. Pero what im thinking is i want to invest na may okay na return. I can deposit atleast 5k monthly, Enlighten me please.

You're definitely right.
If you had approached this advisor with the problem of accumulating 100k within the year,
he shouldn't have offered a VUL and you should have known this yourself if you looked
at the proposal.

I have Sunlife's Flexilink but I know for a fact that Maxilink is similar although the charges
are a little bit smaller.

You surely had noticed that on the first year, most of your payment goes towards the insurance
part right? This insurance policy is years of commitment and not something to go into lightly.

I'm sure you've noticed that it says the payment period is 5 years(or 10 years) but it can
extend depending on market conditions.

You can't convert your plan to a mutual fund but you can certainly withdraw the fund value
to invest in mutual funds but please take note that the policy has to have sufficient funds to
fund the monthly insurance charges(You pay insurance charges monthly all through out
the life time of your policy even if you're officially done with the payment period)

You can certainly invest in mutual funds but just take note that a 1 year time frame might be
too short. Technically bond funds are the perfect fund for your time frame but real life experience
has taught me that it's not a sure thing.

If you decide to invest in equity funds, you can get very lucky in one year or very unlucky. It's a huge gamble.

Hi girls, I'm totally a noob with insurance and all the terms pero I've been wanting to get a plan with Sunlife for a while now and would be glad if any of you could help me choose the right one.

I'm 24, recently married and planning for a baby hopefully before the year ends. The "problems" I would like solved are:

1. Benefits for women looking into pregnancy other than SSS and Philhealth (I'm thinking Maiden Plus for this but feel free to suggest other plan suitable), something na we can avail just in case magka complications or whatnot.
2. Ang worry ko lang dito sa Maiden Plus, what if something happens to me after the covered age (65), walang maiiwan sa family. Can I still get this plan while I'm young tapos get another plan na lang later on pag malapit na matapos ang coverage?
3. If I do get Maiden Plus, I'd like something in addition to that na I can pull out money from say 5-10 years from now (hopefully for baby #2) pero continuous pa rin yung plan if I dont withdraw, and hopefully get it as sort of a recurring income once I retire - may ganito ba?
4. For hubby naman, he's 28, and gusto sana namin na may investment din sya once he retires (yung tipong patravel travel na lang pag tanda) plus just in case may unforeseen event or sickness, he can leave something behind for our family.

TIA to anyone who can suggest options, gusto sana namin at least may idea na kami on possible plans to get once we go the the Sunlife office. We don't personally know any agents from there din kasi.  :)

Hi Artsymomtobe:

Here's some of my suggestions :)
HTH! :)

1.  May mga Female rider sa Sun Life like Female Critical Illness at Female Critical Maternity, I think this will work for you :)

2. Pwede ka mag VUL instead of Maiden Plus, yung coverage nya is until 88 years old.

3. Same sa #2 pwede VUL ang kuhain mo then rider is Female Critical Illness and Maternity, this will address (a) protection benefit that you can leave for your family incase of something happen,(b) investment for your next child (c) retirement for the future.  With regards sa detailed for each areas mas okay na idiscuss sayo personally.

4. Recommended ang VUL with more in investment  side plus riders, 3 in 1 na product, protection if incase may mangyari so your husband can leave something to you and his family, hospital/illness funds that can be cater by riders to cover yung unforeseen events and sickness ,lastly *retirement fund :)

For those na kumuha ng Sunfit and Well or if you have an idea lang, ipapamedical pa ba kame ng sunlife?

No problem naman if ever, nakakatamad lang haha!

With pru life kasi, pinamedical kami ni hubs nung kumuha kami ng policy sa kanila 3 yrs ago.
Then nung kumuha kami sa Sunlife more than a year ago, hindi kami pinamedical.

Kakakuha lang namin ng additional policy sa Sunlife more than a week ago (bale 2nd policy na namin itong sunfit and well), ask ko lang kung papamedical pa nila kami?

Wala pa kasi sinasabi yung agent namin :D stand by daw muna lol

Nakakastress pala magreview ng mga VUL proposal, almost a month of contemplating, i feel that Maxilink Bright suits me. My agent said walang charges ang top-ups? Is this true?

This is from my copy of a Maxilink proposal a few years ago:

The projected values are net of: (a) premium charges of 65% of annual regular premium on the first policy year and 5% of annual regular premium from the second to the fifth year, all excess premiums shall be subject to a premium charge of 5%

That's a 5% charge for top-ups unless your agent is clueless or misunderstood you. Just get a copy of the proposal and look for the clause I posted above.

It is possible that they changed the terms but as far as I know if they do, they usually launch a brand new product.

^Agree sis. Btw, terms have not been changed. It's still 5% excess premium charge.

"all excess premiums shall be subject to a premium charge of 5%" - that's top-up charge right?

Yes mxherr5, I've read that kaya naconfuse ako sa sinabi nya, I think bago pa ata sya, kaya di nya na gets na top up yun. Thanks rasee16 for answering my pm. Im thinking of changing the agent.

Well, did you confront him/her? If he's new but he has the drive and work ethic to provide good service, you might want to stick with him/her?

^I corrected him in a nice way thru pm, at first he insisted that top-up charge is for mutual funds only, then I said I will review his proposal again. After few minutes, he apologized because na overlook daw nya. Now I'm thinking if I will pursue an account from him or look for another FA. He's a friend of my sister, one of the reasons i wanna get VUL is to help him.

^That's good. Anyway, whatever you decide, just make sure you fully trust your FA because it's a lifelong commitment. Sabi nga nila sa amin, "from cradle to grave" daw hehe totoo naman kasi kami talaga ang nagaasikaso hanggang sa claims ng family ng clients.

Hi everyone! Madami ako natutunan dito sa thread.  Newbie pa lang ako about insurance and investments.
Ask ko lang po,
1.) What's the difference between face amount and fund value? And how are they computed?

True kaya to? Hehe

Hi everyone! Madami ako natutunan dito sa thread.  Newbie pa lang ako about insurance and investments.

Ask ko lang po,
1.) What's the difference between face amount and fund value? And how are they computed?

Face Amount is the basis of the insurance coverage. For example, you are insured for 1,000,000 with Face Amount equivalent also to 1M. Meron ding mga produkto na insured for 1,000,000 with Face Amount equivalent to 500,000 naman, because the contract says that you are insured for 200% of the Face Amount

Fund Value on the other hand is the value of your policy at any given date depending on your paid premiums, number of units you bought with your premiums, and the value per unit of the fund.

Sa mga Traditional term insurance, walang Cash Value kasi term insurance products do not earn.

Quote
2.) Paano po kapag tumigil na sa pagbabayad ng premium in less than 5 years? And hindi na talaga balak ituloy. May marerefund po ba?

It depends.

If VUL, as long as non-zero ang Fund Value at kayang bayaran ang future yearly charges, then in-force ang policy

If Traditional, merong tinatawag na non-forfeiture options.

examples of non-forfeiture options are

a) paid up insurance - ito yung mga policies na may cash value tapos kung ayaw na magbayad ng policy owner/insured then liliit lang ang coverage pero insured na siya for life. So day kung say 1M ang kanyang insurance at 10 yrs to pay at on the 5th yr ayaw na niya mag pay then cocomputin ni Actuary ang paid up insurance coverage niya based on premiums paid. Hindi na 1M ang insurance but paid na siya for life

b) paid up term or paid up extended term - ito yung same coverage pero iikli ang coverage span. so for example instead na insured for 1M until age 100, insured pa rin for 1M pero hindi na until age 100.

Mabigat.

Sa ganang akin, kung gusto mo na guaranteed ang premiums mo, meaning kapag gusto mo na 5 yrs to pay lang ay exactly 5 yrs to pay lang, then go for traditional participating insurance products. May kamahalan ito since may guarantees.

Pero kung gusto mo naman ng flexibility sa payment ng premiums, at the same time you are invested in bond or equity securities, then go for VULs. Mas affordable ang premiums nito kasi you as the insured are already taking some risks due to exposure of part of your policy to the volatility of the markets.

I hope nakatulong po ito :)
