Pinapalayas kami dahil sa pets

 I need some advice regarding this matter, for a side story. We  are renting this place for 5 months now. The place is owned by my mother's colleague. Before we occupied the place our first question was is it alright if we bring along our 2 dogs and 12 cats. She said that it's "okay! no problem"

The cats has an access outside since we placed their litter box near the laundry area. As usual the cats would usually stay outside to sleep, lurk around since it was there first time to have an access out. In our previous apartment they are just inside a room where they stayed for 8yrs.

The problem now is they want us to get rid of the cats. They say that it always smells disgusting outside. The older brother of their family spoke to me saying this morning that he'll give me until the end of the month to decide if pull out ALL the cats or we leave. He also told me that he can't wait any longer and I need to decide immediately. Kaya sabi ko "paano ako magdedecide wala parents ko dito? hindi naman yun ganon kadali"

I told him that I always clean the area (halos ubusin ko na sabon namin at downy sa sahig) and litter box, so how could that be the problem? He told me that I'm already immune and so one. I also pointed out that the very first question we asked his sister (my mother's colleague) is if it is okay to bring PETS. My moms colleague says that "Hindi ko alam na ganyan karami" so in defense I told her "Ilang beses ka pumunta sa dati naming tinitirahan bago ka makapasok sa mismong bahay, sila unang una mong nakikita, sinabi mo nga na ang dami nila". Now I feel that naghuhugas kamay na siya. Para hindi siya sisihin ng mga kapatid niya.

Last december my mom's colleage PMed by mom regarding the cat issue. My mom told her na they talk in person kasi mahirap sa chat and kaharap lang naman ng bahay nila yung apartment. Pero no show siya. Ilang beses siya inantay. Ngayon umalis na parents ko tsaka nila ako pinagtutulungan at prinipressure. Wala ng other issue regarding the cats basta mabaho lang daw.

I know that it is their right since they own the place. I also get the point that apartments dont usually allow pets. But it pisses me off na dapat hindi na pumayag umpisa palang. Nakatira kami sa previous apartment without any reklamo from the owner. What about yung mga walang kalaban laban na pusa? What can I do to protect ourselves?  Its very difficult to find an apartment and settle in a new place. Both my parents are OFWs so paano? and we rented the place dahil madali mode of transpo going to school.

I'm really bothered right now.

Hi, I have 11 cats and 3 dogs. Mahirap talaga if your next door neighbors are meseselan. Like you, maya't maya rin ang linis namin sa place nila but luckily, our neighbors are not complaining because we built an enclosure for cats.

If I were in your situation, hahanap nalang ako ng ibang place or apartment na siguradong pwede magdala ng pets. Yan yung first na dapat mo linawin. Correct me if I'm wrong pero minsan may agreement between tenants and landlord na pinipirmahan, diba? Clearly state that you will bring your pets with you. Hindi naman pwede na iwan or i-abandon lang sila kung saan.

^Yun siguro mali namin. Nagtiwala kami sa salita. Talagang dapat laging may black and white. Share ko lang sis hindi lang namin ilang beses tinanong sakanya yun. Maraming beses pa. Pero biglang hindi na daw niya alam.

I'm not being matapobre or mean here. Pero the place where we are staying ay hindi naman high end subdivision. The surrounding is comparable sa squatters. Please if I offended someone gusto ko lang idescribe yung place. Yung apartment lang na tinitirihan namin ang matino na bahay kasi bagong gawa. Kaya inis na inis ako sa sobrang selan nila akala mo sobrang yaman. at hindi rin naman compound yung nirentahan namin may sarili kaming gate (grills nga lang kaya somehow open). I invited one of my friends over nga and has her kung mabaho ba. Sabi niya wala naman siyang naamoy.

True! yung mga cats ko parang anak ko na. Kasama sila sa budget schedule namin. Kung sinong maiiwan samin ng kapatid ko sa bahay we make sure na everytime dudumi sila sa litter box linis kagad. Kaso hindi nila magets yung sinasabi kong litter box. Akala nila kung saan saan lang dumudumi. at pinagpipilitan na ang pusa is naturally mabaho.

True! yung mga cats ko parang anak ko na. Kasama sila sa budget schedule namin. Kung sinong maiiwan samin ng kapatid ko sa bahay we make sure na everytime dudumi sila sa litter box linis kagad. Kaso hindi nila magets yung sinasabi kong litter box. Akala nila kung saan saan lang dumudumi. at pinagpipilitan na ang pusa is naturally mabaho.

I feel you. Totoong totoo sinabi mo. Baka hindi sanay landlord nyo sa mga pets, sana pwede mapakiusapan since hindi ganun kadali makakahanap ng lilipatan or better yet paliwanag mo konsepto ng litter box sa kanila. Are you using Tidy Cats or something similar? Kasi nako-control nila yung odor e. Regarding sa enclosure, laundry area kasi yung ginawang tamabayan ng cats ko. Nilagyan additional posts sa paligid and may screen then roof. It's like a huge cage lang.

buti nga walang regulation diyan as far as the maximum allowed dogs and cats per household.  over here, the max is 3 dogs and 3 cats. 
anyway, wala lang, just thought to mention it.

Are you using Tidy Cats or something similar? Kasi nako-control nila yung odor e. Regarding sa enclosure, laundry area kasi yung ginawang tamabayan ng cats ko. Nilagyan additional posts sa paligid and may screen then roof. It's like a huge cage lang. 

Yes sis tidy cats gamit ko pero recently laging di available sa s&r kaya nagiibang brand ako.

May apat na dogs si landlord. kaya nagulat ako nung sinabi niyang itapon ko ang mga cats. or sadyang ayaw niya lang ng cats.

yung previous na niretahan namin laundry room din yung parang naging kulungan ng cats ko. 8 years kami dun. Yun nga lang etong si "friend" (kuno) ni mother inalok samin tong bagong tayo niyang apartment. at wala daw magiging problema. kasi katapat lang ng house nila at magiging safe kami.

Nagsisi tuloy ako sana pala hindi nalang kami lumipat. wala sana kaming problema.

Tsk. Ang nega ng landlord nyo, di ko ata kaya magtapon ng hayop (cats or dogs). Pinupulot pa nga namin yun kaya dumami alaga ko. Hehe. Besides, ganun nalang ba kadali magpaalis ng tenants lalo na't nagbabayad kayo?

^alam ko talaga pag magpapaalis ka ng tenant may 3 months notice dba? sila gusto dapat by feb tapon ko yung pusa or lumayas kami.

andito yung parents ko nung holiday ni hindi nila kami kinausap regarding sa pets. Ngayong wala tsaka nila ako binibigyan ng problema. Feeling ko binubully nila ako dahil alam nilang wala parents ko matatakot ako.

Grabe naman yun, ano yan kalat na itatapon? Mali ginagawa nila, they should at least give you enough time to find a new place kesa nagbibigay sila ng unfair na ultimatum. I also worry for your cats kasi kahit ako hindi ko iiwan pets ko.

Totoo never kong iaabandon tong mga cats ko. Wala silang isip at Hindi naman nila kaya magtrabaho para sa sarili nila.

Kung ipipilit talaga nila na umalis kami by this feb. Irereklamo ko sila. Wala nga silang receipt twing nagbabayd kami , kami pa nag priprint at nagpapapirma sakanila na nagbayad na kami.

kawawa naman nag pets mo sis okay lang sila? itatapon ang pusa? And in the first place sila pala ang nag offer eh. Pero I agree dapat may kasulatan talaga sa umpisa pa lang para may laban ka. I am not of any help here. I just sympathize with you since ako may 6 na aso din and I can't imagine kung bigla na lang sasabihin sakin na itatapon ko sila. Pero sa apartment namin bawal talaga pets kaya wala kaming aso sa apartment

Best talaga when renting, to specify in the contract the policy on pets.

I lease out houses and other residential units.  I specify in my contracts -- no pets allowed. 
If they have aquariums, I specify I must first approve the size and number.
If sabi birds lang -- I have the prospective tenant write down the number & type, caged or not? In or outside the house?

Not that I don't like pets -- we have dogs, fish & birds.
But ang daming clase na pet owners.
I don't want neighbors of my properties filing a complaint against my tenant and me for pet-related issues.
I don't like having to quibble over what is normal wear and tear, if caused by pets.  Some owners do not train their pets reasonably well ---  mapanira mga ito or pee/poop kung saan saan.

I started turning away pet owners, or having pet owning potential tenants turn their backs on me --  after 1 townhouse was returned to me with a very mapanghi room.  We couldn't get the strong scent of eau de panghi out of the floorboards.  Mga corner baseboards ngatngat!  Same with corner cabinet bottoms.  Hopia!

If the TS's surroundings are squatters --  baka hindi yung cats ang smelly. Puedeng open sewers, congested sewerage --  whatever facilities are congested.  Who can say?

Yes, I agree with the advise to relocate.  Lesson learned: put it in the contract how many pets of what type you are allowed to keep on the premises.  It is not good to be repeatedly harassed for what for her is part of her family.  Unfair but well, it is what it is. 

Btw, generally -- condos where pets are allowed -- 2 pets are allowed, whatever the size of the condo unit.  Some condo associations have clamped down on those who abuse the pet friendliness. 1 notorious owner of cats --  she was sued to trim down to just 2 cats.  Eto pa hahaha -- she had to submit photos of the 2 cats residing in her 1bedroom unit.  Ang reason for having not as big a heart as the pet owners, the contras to pets cite hygiene reasons and hazards to health of building occupants.

taking care of pets is like taking care of human beings --- take care of what you can afford to take care.

some "pet" owners like having stray cats. their love is limited. usually hanggang pakain lang. but when push comes to shove. wala nang magawa. oks lang kasi  hindi naman kaya. its a one way street if you look at it from another perspective.

we used to have neighbors like this. they love feeding stray cats. but they don't care if these stray cats start to live in the area, defacate in public and private properties, etc etc  heck, meron pa manganganak sa front door mo. pag nagkasakit naman, walang magdadala sa vet. kasi gagastos sila.

disiplina lang ang kailangan. mag alaga lang ng kung anong kayang pakainin at ibahay.

....and stick to the agreement. YES may pinagusapan nga but everything that was agreed upon was within reasonable limits. sa ibang bansa, talo ka na niyan kapag proven kang unreasonable, which in this case is quiet obvious.

if proximity is important, then find a place to put the pets....mas important yung school eh.  kung mas important yung pets, eh talagang maghahanap ng lugar napapayag na may ganun kadami.

ang pets parang tao din, may amoy din sila. depende pa sa kinakain. kaya to many people deal breaker ang pets.

tsaka ang pets, napansin ko, pag matanda na, hinahayaan na, lalo na kung may sakit at mabaho na. i visited my moms friend who had 4 old dogs. grabe. baho.

@yula no wala silang receipt. kaya kami pa nagprproduce ng receiving copy ng payment. Actually hindi na nila kami kinulit about sa pets. Ewan ko kung bakit baka alam na nilang mali sila. And I know for sure na wala naman talagang amoy.

@akthung yes, iba iba talaga pet owners. In my case we don't feed stray cats. All my cats grew up with me kaya nga we informed the landlord about them bago kami lumipat. Lahat sila may proper training where to defecate.  as I posted earlier they have litter boxes and we have allocated budgets for their litter sand and cat foods. All of them are also neutered so wala ng problema dahil hindi na sila dadami.

@aquacharly eto yung sinasabi ko sakanila. Mabaho na daw kasi yung kanal at bumabaho daw dahil samin ng gagaling yun. Yung drainage kasi namin sa labas ng house connected na agad nung sa main sewer nung street.

Either hindi na nila kaya or they just want you out for whatever reason. Lam mo naman pinoy minsan kailangan mo maging psychic para basahin

If you didn't sign a rental agreement with this landlord, my suggestion is to just find a new place. Or at least insist on creating a written agreement with this one, though dapat sila talaga mag-initiate. Sure, right now you've settled your issue about your cats but who knows what they will complain about tomorrow, especially now that nagkainisan na kayo. Just a thought.
