I am from Batangas and yes I have attended so many weddings, actually all of it yata has SABUGAN. My ate even had one. Malaki din actually nagagastos ng bride and groom dito kasi before the wedding they have to give the principal sponsors something na magiging basis naman nila on how much they would give them on the wedding day. The more expensive the value is the more pressured the ninongs and ninangs to give high amounts. Like sa ate ko they had like 5 pairs of sponsors. They gave each of them half of a pig, fruits, kakanin and cake. If I remember correctly each got 40 kilos at least. and it's literally half ng katawan ng baboy.

On the day naman mejo pressure sa both sides since bawat money na binibigay is separated depende kung kaninong relatives. I think the main purpose is para lumaki yung amount. This is literally asking for money and they don't hide that fact kasi it is being done as "unang hanapbuhay ng magasawa" as the announcer will always say.

I dont find it nakakahiya kasi tradition  naman iyon. I wont have it on my wedding though or put monetary gift requests on my invite. As for money dance I dont want it as well kaso hubby would like to have one since all his relatives are from the US and he wants them to experience it. But I dont know, baka or hindi.. Pero wala naman masama sa money dance and I dont find couples preferring to have one as tacky.

We will not have money dance on our wedding.

We had our wedding last Dec 2014. Having a money dance is up to you, the couple, kung ano ang mas prefer nyo. We had money dance and para sa akin ito ang isa sa pinaka magandang part ng wedding namin. I am teary eyed nga after nun. I am so overwhelmed with all the love na naramdaman ko. We got to see our relatives and friends na matagal na naming di nakikita o  nakakausap. We also indicated na "we suggest monetary gift" sa invitation pero base sa experience namin, marami pa rin ang nagbigay ng wrapped gifts on the wedding day dahil sa Filipino tradition, di sanay na nagsusuggest na money ang regalo dahil ang iba na-ooffend. Sa family ko din kasi kahit di kami from the province, all weddings had money dance.

We had our first dance/money dance before the program proper started, after our grand entrance. 3 songs ang kinanta ng band for our first/money dance. Sa first song, half nun nagsayaw kaming newly wed. Then aften nun, our coordinator put a sash on us and announce that we will having the monetary dance na. First nagsabit ang parents to encourage other guests and we inform our parents ahead na mauna. They got to congratulate, give their best wishes, shake hands, embrace and cry with us personally. You get to see their happy faces upclose. Another chance for them na lumapit sa couple is during picture taking before the buffet and after na mismo ng wedding pagkatapos ng program proper . After the dance, all the money we collected is put on our money well.

This is just my insight po. The decision will be really up to the couple. Also kung magaling ang OTD nyo, they will be able to put up an organized, stress free and happy wedding for you. Our coord is Events Republic. Happy preps sisses! :)

Hi mga sis. We had our wedding last January 17 and we pushed through with prosperity dance as requested by the guests also for the sake of having fun. And one of my PS naging creative sa kanilang pagsabit. Gumawa sila ng parang korona (king and queen ang peg tee hee!) made of money tee hee! and I was surprised and enjoyed it a lot. Depende yun sa couple if they want to have it or not but for us, hubby and I and the guests really enjoyed it. :)

I hve nothing against couples who want this, but I personally find it tacky. Para namang fundraiser for the couple. I'm having second thoughts already whether to push through or not with indicating a monetary gift preference in our invitations or not. The money dance is too much. If i were the guest, I'd also just pin the original amount I was willing to give anyway-- but it leaves a bad taste in the mouth to see the couple asking for money a second time.

We're not having a money dance. However, kinakabahan ako kasi when I spoke to one of our guests from here, she asked if we'll have money dance, I told her na hindi.. tapos sabi nya "naku dapat meron, masaya yon!" I explained na lang na we will have our first dance pero walang sabit sabit ng money..then sabi sakin, sya daw mauuna para sumunod daw lahat.. natthreaten tuloy ako!! Hahaha!

^Ang kulit sis! If you can't stop her, tell your OTD to watch out for this guest. Hahaha  ;D

^^ Haha sis belle_v2g, you can have a very short dance. Un sa friend namin, father-daughter/mother-son dance muna then un first dance nyo ni husband naman. Tapos pabantayan nyo kay coordinator kung may mag-attempt na lumapit and magsabit para ma-cue nya un band na end na ng first dance nyo. Yun nga lang, baka mamaya sobrang short ng first dance nyo pag ganun..

We won't be having a money dance in our wedding and I have nothing against it. We're not comfortable of having one rin kasi.

kung di kayo komportable then don't..

i think it's tacky, even with tradition and all. and tama the other sis-posters here, if either you or your husband is not comfortable with it, don't do it. don't especially do it because you're worried about your mom, or some other guest. you're both adults and this is your wedding. so do what you want and what makes you feel comfortable. don't do anything to please anyone else.

personally, i think a money or prosperity dance  puts your principal sponsors and guests on the spot and pressures them to give more money. if the guests really want to give money, they will hand it over to the couple themselves. if the bride or groom really wants to spend quality face time with guests, they should just go and mingle during the reception.

^me and my husband agreed not to have one.. that's why I am firm to the guest (who was so keen to make sabit) that we're not doing it.. not because it's tacky, and not because we are not from batangas, nor we don't want to put pressure on our sponsors whatsoever.. plain and simple, "we just don't want to do it."

You talk to your guest na lang sis. Emphasize that you really don't want to do that. Then come wedding day, inform your OTD about it so she can watch out for that person. Hehe. Hehe.

I attended a wedding na yung first dance is inannounce din na money dance. Kaso walang nagsabit! Di ko sure kung di lang naintindihan ng guests, nahiya [textspeak!] mga guests o talagang walang naprepare for it. Naawa lang ako dun sa couple. :(

ito yung mahirap when the money dance is not really a part of wedding traditions in the couple's family. if it is, at least the family and relatives would have made sabit and the other guests could have just followed them. or all their guests should have been told prior to the wedding that there was going to be a money dance, so they could've prepare. and usually the first dance is not the money dance. nasa latter part na siya ng program, when all the guests have appreciated and enjoyed the wedding.

To be honest, I'm also not keen on the money dance tradition because to me it sends the message that the couple is asking for cash upfront. If you're not financially prepared to start married life, it might be better to have a simpler wedding (so you don't enter marriage in debt) or wait until you can afford it.

A friend of mine simply did not state that she had a registry or asked cash in her invitations, so we all assumed the couple wanted monetary gifts. I think that was the most subtle way to indicate your preference.
