Sis - ako din super long time user ng tret na and i'm using the mildest with is 0.25
I find that sensitive pa din ako kaso pag walang tret, i breakout.
How do you buffer? Hindi ako makapag makeup kasi kita yung flakes lalo hehe
i do tret every other day nalang when i get really sensitive but i never go beyond 2 days na walang tret kasi parang back to square 1 ka daw nun

I love retinoids esp tretinoin. But even after using it for 8 years I still cant use it daily and I still need to buffer even if I use the .025 percent only. I still have times when my face gets so dry and irritating and stings and during those times i look older pa. Several dermas have told me that there are some people who sre really sensitive and cannot tolerate tret even with long time use.

Noticed my face na medyo nangingitim and may itchiness sa gilid ng mata ko. Nun medyo nakamot ko naging butlig butlig. Yung pagbabalat sa paligid pa rin ng mouth and ilong ko. Ini-stop ko muna kasi parang nagmukang ewan yung skin ko. Haha 🙀🙀🙀

project60: Wow pareho talaga tayo. I still can't use tret everyday after many years. I buffer depending on how my skin is. If I feel I am starting to peel, then I buffer by putting a thick moisturizer like Physiogel AI first before adding tret. But when I have breakouts, I buffer by putting a thinner moisturizer like VMV hydra balance after 30 min of using tret so that I can let the tret sink in and work on my zits.

A new derma I tried recently suggested I switch to Adapalene  (Differin 3%) since my skin seems to be unable to tolerate tretinoin. It is also a retinoid but milder and also anti-acne. OK naman, my skin is much better with this. I asked about it and 2 dermas said there are anti-aging benefits also. However, there are no long-term studies yet unlike tret, that prove adapalene's anti-aging effect.

Tret is sooo tricky to use. You can really do more damage than good for your skin if not used properly.

I plan to switch now to Adapalene during summer or when I travel for extended periods.

Sis who is your derma? hahaha gusto ko din mag try ng adapalene but want to ask first if i can haha.
lahat ng derma na natry ko puro tret ang rinecommend. medyo madaming times ko na kasi na fefeel na ano ba ayoko na mag peel at mamula but i cant stop kasi nga breakout galore.

when you put moisturizer, do you put tret immediately after or you wait until mag completely dry out sya? kasi diba from hilamos dapat 30 mins before u put tret?

^sis I go to Dra. Bev Ong-Amoranto in VMV Makati main clinic. She OKed adapalene with me but it was suggested to me by a derma in Robinson's Galleria who is ok lang. I went to her lang because I was in the mall and needed my zits injected hehe. Ask any derma nalang about adapalene, I don't think you need a prescription for it. Its more expensive than tretinoin. 1 tube is 1700 PHP

I put my moisturizer immediately after I wash and tone my face. Then I put the tret on after 30 mins, or right before I sleep. But if I am lazy I just put my face in front of the electric fan for like 2 min till it completely dries before I put the moisturizer and tret. =)

Ang gamit ko dati, retinoic acid 0.05%. Pero the generic types na nabibili ko lang sa derma ko kinukuha. Well and good, maintenance ko siya every night. Pero naubos na yung last tub ko and gusto kong bumili na lang sa drugstore kasi wala akong time pumunta pang derma. Pero when I asked sa Watsons, wala daw sila retinoic acid, tretinoin lang. Are they the same lang? If yes, what brand is good and how much? Yung generic kasi cheap lang, around 300 pesos lang.

Thanks sis Chili1113. Do you get facials at the VMV clinic din? Tagal ko na kasi di nag dederma, i just use my derma meds as maintenance kasi siya na din nag sabi na use it as maintenance nalang and go back to her pag may something alarming. Unfortunately, di siya na-aalarm sa forever kong reklamo na ayoko na mag peel hahahaha. micro peel lang naman yung akin pero kasi parang forever!!!!!!!!!

Sis ppperez - if you are near megamall, there's clinica manila there. Dun sa pharmacy, you can buy derma meds without prescription. Buy ka nung kay dra. palabyab na tretinoin dami namang strength dun i think around 600 (this lasts me 6+ months  kasi ang onti ko lang mag lagay).... I buy my maintenance bleaching cream (900) and tretinoin there no need mag pa consult kasi ako di na ko nagpapaconsult kasi she gave me signal naman na it's okay to use as my maintenance and go back to her nalang if anything feels wrong.

Thanks for this, sis. So same lang nga ang tretinoin with retinoic acid? I can get it straight from the pharmacy or I have to get it from Dr. Palabyab?

project60: yes sis, I sometimes get facials at VMV Makati. But I started going there mostly before my wedding this year for regular refirme and their rejuvinating peel. My skin was really at its best! I stopped already though since it is quite costly hehe.

Oh yeah, it has also been suggested to me by the derma that if I can't really tolerate daily retinoid use to just stick to several times a weeks, then for "off" nights stick with an AHA cream. =)  I think I have no choice but to stick to this since my skin is so sensitive nga.

OT but sis what is your moisturizer? is it from VMV? tried skintangible okay naman for my sensitive skin kaso mukha akong may putik sa face haha probably kasi i have super acidic skin and nangigitim siya sa face ko kasi tinted.

What's your AHA cream? ooohhh gusto ko try yung rejuvenating peel din - pwede ba yun kahit nag tretretinoin ako? sobrang daming questions ko hahaha i feel ngayon lang kasi ako nakakilala ng someone like me na may tretinoin love/hate relationship haha

^I have several moisturizers sis hehe but most are plain ones for sensitive skin-- VMV, Physiogel, Clinique Dramatically Different, Cetaphil (inuubos ko lang I do'n't like this one). I have several moisturizers because I tend to be a product junkie haha so I keep buying and trying out--but I always go back to VMV. Tried different ones but my skin reacts to products with fragrance. Di na ata ako natuto kasi I buy then ala I end up using it on my neck lang kasi I breakout or get rashes.

for AHA-- I have Neostrata, VMV Re-Everything Line, and Alpa Hydrox (Cheapest to and effective but not available here).

Nako talagang love-hate ako with tret!! I woke up today and my skin was fine. I washed my face as soon as I got home and my face is red and stinging again!! So when I feel my skin is stinging, I try to back off on the tretinoin. Nakakainis lang kasi 8 years na of consistent use and I still can't use it daily Pag pinilit ko, grabe parang na sunburn ako.

Im so jealous of my friends who use tret, even sometimes around the eyes and they get great results without irritation. For me, I see it works naman, but I haven't seen dramatic results when it comes to fine lines. Maybe its because I cant use it daily.

Nagpapawis din ba ang face nyo ng sobra right after applying tretinoin? What's the problem kaya with me? Im using Derm A eh. No moisturizers, straight from washing lang with cetaphil.

So I backread this entire thread, and found that I've been applying my retinoic wrong my entire life. lol. My derma never told me that I should wait 30 mins after washing before applying it, then another 30 mins again before putting on moisturizer on top. :|

Nung una kong nagbreak out, I went to a derma and she prescribed me retinoic. Pero di nya inexplain how. So ang ginagawa ko lang: wash, dry, toner, retinoic 0.025, then moisturizer agad right after. Eh nagclear naman skin ko so akala ko ganun naman. Tapos, nung gumaling breakouts ko, I stopped using it.

A year later, nag breakout ulit ako. As in 2 to 3 acne sabay sabay lagi, tas pagkaheal may kapalit din agad. I self started on retinoic acid 0.025 again, same method. Pero my acne won't subside so I consulted a different derma. She suggested moving up to 0.05%. Pero again, di nya na-explain how to properly apply it. Umonti pimples ko, pero laging meron pa rin. Paisa isa, not as cystic, but still, meron pa rin. Pati tiny bumps sa forehead ko nagkaron na dati wala naman. Pero continued using retinoic 0.05 pa rin kasi I believe in it talaga. Until naubos yung tub ko and researched on this thread.

Two weeks na kong off sa retinoic kasi naubusan nga ako. And true enough, pimple na malaki agad nung natigil. So kanina I got the Retin-A 500mcg. I got Physiogel AI din. Will apply  this every other day muna for 1 to 2 weeks siguro since tagal ko nang wala. Then saka ko gawing every night ulit.

sis chili113, hahaha parehong pareho tayo! bet na bet ko din mag try ng commercial beauty products kasi parang di masaya itsura pag yung normal tret lang haha. di na ko natuto.
But yes di din ako hiyang sa cetaphil as in!

will try vmv - okay kaya yung hydrabalance?

Question din - if i'm on tretinoin.. pwede kaya ako mag pa revlite or diode hair removal for my upperlip?

i've been reading this thread for quite some time now kasi i am so curious

i am now on my 3rd of using tret together with clindamycin and clarifying solution that was given to me. I am so lovin' the effect it does on my skin. I wake up the other day with a nice, glowy look! I know its too early to say this as i have to wait for a few months before i see the real effects on my skin.
