Here are my tips on how to save especially for OFWs:
  • Shop in the pantry. Whatever you have, take note of the expiration and cook before the due date.
  • I make my own kombucha (fermented tea) and drink it everyday. Mahal kasi yung nasa grocery at hindi gaanong malaki.
  • I bought a cheap reliable car in cash. Then I shopped around for insurance.
  • I used credit card with cash-back rewards then pay the credit in full every month.
  • I use free stuff: movies, theater, online movies, online tutorials, audiobook, anything that is free and interesting for me
  • I switched to small balikbayan boxes. I use PayPal to send money in the Philippines.
  • I exercise at home. Walk a lot. I bought term life insurance.
  • I spend my time blogging as a side hustle.
  • Use your time wisely. Don't spend time gossiping. Instead, share and listen to ideas of people on how to invest and anything that will improve your life.
Madami pa but I can't remember the rest or write it here. But I think I've covered the important tips. Thanks sa mga nagshare.  :)

Create a monthly budget to gain more control of your spending. Everydollar app by Dave Ramsey is the one that I recommend. It's simple to use.

Eto ang saving tips ko:

Maggrocery/magmarket then magluto sa bahay. Super laki ng tipid namin instead of always eating out. We're eating out naman paminsan pero hindi na kasing dalas ng dati. Bumili kasi kami ng magandang set ng lutuan kaya super naeenjoy kong gamitin. :) In addition, nagluluto din ako for my baon sa office. Laking tipid talaga. (Although pang offset lang din kasi I always use Grab and uber kapag di ako maihatid or sundo ni hubby. As in hindi ako nagcocommute using public transpo, si hubby naman naka-car.)

More on netflix movies, tv series marathon na kami.

Tas lately, if may gusto akong bilhin, I'm checking out online stores muna like Shopee or Carousell kahit 2nd hand pa, kasi sobrang laking diff compared kung bibili sa mall ng brand new (dresses, clothes, shoes)

Pag may nagpuntang US or Japan akong friend, nagpapabili ako ng gamit kasi mas mura dun. Minsan I hoard bags and shoes tapos binebenta ko online, additional income pa :)

1.   The Right Mindset
You need to have the right mindset why you have to save money.
In case may magkasakit, o mawalan ka ng work?
This formula might already be familiar to you, but in case you need to be reminded ? use this whenever you get your salary.
X Income ? Expenses = Savings
/ Income ? Savings = Expenses
Choose an amount comfortable to you.
It could be ₱10, ₱20 or ₱50 ? eventually this will grow.
Discipline will be developed.
Ok ba?
3.   Bank or Bahay?
Where do I put my saved money?
Sa bank ba o sa bahay.
Sa simula, I?d say it?s not important if it?s in the bank.
What?s important is hindi nagagalaw.
Eventually, noong lumaki na I had to open a saving account separate with my payroll account.
Again, what?s important is hindi nagagalaw ang inipong pera.

when using credit cards, spend what you can just pay, always pay in FULL, wag na wag magpapa-interest. the rewards and rebates that you have accumulated can be used to pay off portion of your bill eventually.

Now na freelancer ako nagkukumahog akong ma-approved kaloka. Madaming perks ang credit card. Lalo na kung marunong kang gumamit.

Yes, usually ginagamit ko ang cards to pay electricity, groceries and other big expenses so I can earn points and now school fees na din, we are based in ME and meron cards na they give discount sa tuition fees, plus the points you will earn pa. I make my own card statement basta may nagastos lista then before end of the month bayad lahat.

Dame din perks like airport lounge, free parking and buy 1 take 1s, basta marunong ka lang maghandle it will not be a burden.

^^ and ^ basta marunong ka, hilig ko pa naman sa mga vouchers and coupons. So lagi akong nag-scout ng deals.

Pag breakfast naman yun mga madaling lutuin like eggs, skinless longganisa, fried chicken or fish.
Then ang car once a week lang ginagamit.
That way mas nakokontrol ko ang spending, minsan nga 200/day lang nagagastos ko for food. ☺

My tipid ways :

-Nagaabang ako ng sale (Buy 1 Take 1, 50% off) ng mga long expiration products  like dishwashing fluids, detergent, toothpaste, shampoo, bodywash, pasta sauces, dried pasta noodles, tissue paper then I buy in bulk (mga good for 3-6 months).

-For fruits and veggies, sa weekend farmer's market ako bumibili kasi sobrang layo ng difference ng prices ng  fruits sa  market at groceries dito. I usually buy yung in season para mas mura.

- I bake bread  and pastries instead of buying then freeze them and reheat as needed, tapos ginagawa ko rin na side racket pag may nagoorder ng goodies.

- I have a sort of uniform sa work, since very casual naman kami, more or less 6 sets ng pants and blouses lang ang nirorotate ko. So hindi na talaga ako natetempt bumili ng new clothes.  If I ever buy clothes, sa sale season lang, and only if I need them, like kelangan ko nang bumili ng bagong winter coat kasi sira na yung luma. Other than that, di ko na inaattempt tumingin sa mall ng clothes para iwas temptation.

- Same as the other girls here, may monthly budget lang ako. 250 euros per month sa living expenses  (except gas since narereimburse ko ang gas ko, and rental).  Minsan may natitira pa ako, tapos yung tira ang pangsplurge ko to buy whatever I want. But

- I do intermittent fasting. Tapos for lunch usually fruits and veggies. No softdrinks/alcohol. Instead, nagbleblend na lang ako ng fruits (na nabibili ko ng mura sa wet market) for my drinks.

I no longer buy in bulk na rin except for some toiletry items na mabilis maubos. We're a small family din naman so no need to buy a lot.

Stay more at home. Tulad ngayon, I am fixing my diet/ eating habits. Every time lumalabas napapakain sa labas. Pag kumakain sa bahay, mas tipid and mas healthy. Less sodium or sugar pa pagkain mo kasi you know what you put in it.

Always set a monthly budget. I also use the envelope system for expenses and savings. I have a number of envelopes labelled and sinusulatan ko para I can keep track.

I rarely open my FB na rin. Iwas makakita about travels or kung ano ano pa mang pwede maging gastos.

Mas marami ako nakakausap or nakikilala pag namimili ako every other day.

Pero pag lumalabas kami i allow them to drink soda or juices. As long as iinom sila ng maraming water after nun.

7 Ways Psychologists Say Saving Boosts Your Mental Health

Here are seven psychological benefits of saving regularly.

1. Discipline

A healthy bank balance doesn't happen by accident. We live in a virtual wonderland of consumer goods where every taste, inclination, or terrible idea can be indulged with a swipe or a click. Saving means swimming against the tide of stuff and having the discipline to say "no" more often than "yes." And the wonderful thing is this: When we adopt effective self-discipline tricks, the results can help us in nearly every part of life.

2. Peace of Mind

If being in debt or riding the edge of your budget has you stressed, then building a savings cushion should bring you peace of mind, suggests Rutgers University. All savers may not be Zen masters, and there's a lot more to tranquility than a pile of cash, but establishing a healthy financial buffer sure doesn't hurt. Saving is a form of personal insurance and, after all, isn't peace of mind what insurance companies are selling?

3. Confidence

Successful saving builds confidence in at least two important ways. First, it reinforces the fact that you can really achieve something when you set your mind to it. And second, saving provides the capital to get things done when necessary. If that 1979 Bronco finally kicks it, you have the capital to buy a dependable replacement (or at least fund a healthy down payment).

4. Assertiveness

Having a deeper and more authentic sense of confidence makes people more assertive. With the skills to save and the bank balance to prove it, you can channel healthy assertiveness when the occasion calls for it. Go after that promotion, ask that special someone out on a first date, or simply work toward your next set of personal goals with greater gusto

5. Optimism

It's easy to be cynical when all your hard work barely floats you from one paycheck to the next. Research shows that saving something ? no matter how small ? can gradually build a sense of optimism. Watching a fledgling bank account grow helps us feel like we're working toward something greater and gives us the traction we need to find new ways to save more and save faster.

6. Compassion

Savers don't have a monopoly on compassion, of course, but saving can give us enough breathing room in our own financial lives to look around and see what others need. Saving regularly affords us the luxury of a clearer perspective ? and that's often the seed of active compassion. It also gives rise to compassionate actions ? such as having the means to donate to good causes or help others when they're in need.

7. Sense of Freedom

A high level of consumer debt is a lot like indentured servitude. Steep interest rates, late fees, the potential damage to credit (and all that can entail) can keep people toiling for years with very little to show for it. Being able to save regularly means you've at least tamed your debt enough to stash some cash ? and cash is often an important part of being free. Spending less and saving more can help us embrace important freedoms in our careers, our relationships, and where we choose to live. Without overstating it: If you feel cornered by any aspect of life, explore the transformative power of amassing some capital and then use it to launch yourself in a new direction.

Sure, it might not be the cure for everything that ails you, but there are some very real psychological benefits to establishing and maintaining a savings routine. In fact, saving and frugality can be downright sexy. So, as you watch that bank balance grow, consider what other parts of your life are blossoming too.
