I'll be taking all of my money out of mutual funds soon. I've hit my target prices and this type of investment isn't for me anymore. Slow, too many fees, and you can get the same for less in ETFs, UITFs, and index funds. I just might leave a little for long-term with Philequity though, for sentimentality's sake -- it was my first ever investment and what paid off part of my wedding and childbirth. 'Di ko sila maiwan. :)

Mutual funds:
1. Long holding periods (years)
2. High redemption penalties
3. High sales loads
4. Usually more knowledgeable personnel

Unit Investment Trust Funds:
1. Shorter holding periods (0 days to just months)
2. Lower redemption penalties
3. No or low sales loads
4. Hit-and-miss when it comes to knowledgeable staff; Some are informed while others are totally clueless

It boils down to fees for me, basically. UITFs, ETFs, and index funds (except for Philequity's index fund, which charges an astronomical 5% sales load) have lower fees. Mutual funds also have a longer historical performance, but I'd rather look at how a fund will potentially perform in the future.

If you want the technical differences between MFs and UITFs (who are the managers, the licensed sellers, the governing bodies, and etc.), you can Google it easily enough.

I wanna start with 10k for both FAMI and PhilEquity.

Question though, is it okay if I dont have bank accounts with Metrobank(FAMI) and BDO(PhilEquity)?

Can I make the necessary deposit of the initial payments and top-ups in the future,  old school style like pila sa banko with all the forms/receipts then have them all scanned and sent? Or need talaga na may account with both banks mentioned?

Thank you sisses!  :)

^Yes, it's okay, you don't need to open accounts at those banks. It would be easier if you did, though, because then you can just do top-ups online. But you can still do it the old pila way.

Nakapag apply ka na ba Sis?
I just started this month sa Philequity. I contacted Mon Lao of Rampver Strategic Advisors, he's an investment solicitor. If you need any help in account opening of Philequity/FAMI you may asked him. Sa kanya ko pinacheck yung mga forms ko (since Im working overseas, mahirap pag madami mali, pabalik balik yung forms, mahal yung delivery ng docs).
You can check his FB account.

How much yung fee for him to go through my applications? Thanks sis.

I plan to fill out the forms then send it nalang via LBC.
But my concern is, should I deposit first 10k produce a copy of the deposit slip as proof to be sent along with the application forms OR send the application forms then deposit the 10k once they receive the application.

Im from Visayas.

Sis walang fee para sa pag aayos ng application.
Better if mapa check mo na muna yung forms before sending it.

MUTUAL FUNDS
Issuer: Investment company
Structure: Corporate
Instruments issued: Common shares
Shareholder rights: Yes. Investors in the fund have the same rights as shareholders of ordinary companies
Who oversees the fund: Board of directors
Who manages the fund's assets: Investment Company Adviser/ Fund Manager
Who distributes to the public: SEC-licensed certified investment solicitors
Primary government regulatory agency: Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)

UITF
Issuer: Trust department of banks
Structure: Contractual
Instruments issued: Units of participation
Shareholder rights: None. investors are not shareholders
Who oversees the fund: Bank's Trust committee
Who manages the fund's assets: Bank's trust dept
Who distributes to the public: Bank sales frontliner (non-licensed)
Primary government regulatory agency: Bangko Sentral

By the way, I have mutual funds in sunlife, fami and philequity.
I used to have UITF in BDO kaso nababagalan ako. Parang time-deposit lang yung growth kaya pinull-out ko na.
