Partner na walang plano sa buhay
« on: January 24, 2014, 11:05:42 am »

I am the breadwinner for almost 3 years. That starts when I got pregnant and we decided to live together. I shouldered all pregnancy and delivery related expenses down to the vaccines, milk & vitamins and even our basic needs. At first, partner tried doing palengke business (50% capital from me) but didn't work out due to mismanagement--personal expenses mixed with business at dahil Nanay niya ang bantay na mahilig sa bumbay. He also tried working as a security guard.

We can only afford 1500 that time and his sister volunteered. After 2 months, I ended up paying my SIL.

I have nothing against farming pero naiinis lang ako sa diskate niya.

Deadma sa kanya to. Sabi ko subukan mo kaya magtinda yong pack lunch na may kanin at ulam in a styro.

Please advice me how to deal with this kind of partner. TY

baka naman waley puhunan? ::)

mmm, maging OT na tayo at ibahin ko rin ang tono ko kung humahangad ka pa ng buhay na... more on the "material" side. ;)

Hindi naman ako naghahangad for more on material things lang.

Ang rate kasi sa province 150 per day, whole day pa yon, excluding food and other needs niya.

Kaya nga, you have to ask him what he wants.  And if it boils to it, and he tells you that he doesn't want to have a business or to work, matatanggap mo ba yun

How much are you willing to make your relationship work?

Magulo kasi kapag hindi mo tanggap ang partner mo, what will happen is you will try to change him to what he's not, you'll suggest him to do things that he doesn't like,  you'll try to improve himself. Pag paulit-ulit na ganyan, you'll just grow tired, frustrated, and hopeless if nothing is happening. And sya naman, he might resent you and grow distant because of what you're doing. Ending, magulong relationship, very tiring and dissatisfying.

Ganyan na ba sya bago kayo magsama? I know that what you want is in his and your family's best interest. If you can't accept your partner na ganyan, then hiwalayan mo na lang sya tutal hindi pa naman kayo kasal. Otherwise, maaga kang tatanda, puro kunsomisyon at problema.

So it's either you learn to accept him and fit your family system to make your relationship work, or you try to change him which may not work and may make you miserable. But I have an experience that acceptance do change people. You can try it but don't put too much hope on it.

So again, how much are you willing to make your relationship work?

I don't think there's anything wrong kung maghangad ka ng mas maayos na buhay for your family at kung mag plan ka for a brighter future. It's necessary and it is just practical. For me, ambition drives a person up to a better level (imo lang po).

I think you two have different perspectives though. Ikaw, marami kang nakikita na pwede pagkakitaan. Pero ano ba ang views nya? Ask him ano ba nararamdaman nya whenever you suggest such things? Baka naman pressured sya or what. And also, try explaining siguro na the reason kung bakit gusto mo sana may steady income din sya like yung preparing for the future or whatever it is that might happen. Gusto mo ng security etc... and tell him what you need from him as the man of the family.

As a father, unang una sya dapat ang gustong magprovide ng magandang future and environment sa anak nyo. Pareho kayong magulang.

Sis, hindi ko alam paano naging "kayo" with his attitude.  Paano mo sya nagustuhan before?

^ kahit pa may anak sila, it does not matter. Point is mabuti nalang hindi pa sila kasal.

Either you live with it or ditch him.

@TS i feel for you sis! ganyan din nangyari sakin. i got pregnant with my then bf. turns out super tamad pala nun at may bisyo pa na gambling. lahat ng pera sa casino dinadala.

long story short we broke up. we both moved on. i am with someone who is financially responsible and may direction ang buhay. meron ako thriving business, new house and car. all nabili ko nung mag isa nako. as for the father of my baby, nakapag abroad siya may gf na and yung gf niya ang nagdala sa kanya dun. last i heard maayos na din ang buhay niya and minsan nagpadala ng pera sakin and gift sa anak namin tuwing bday at xmas.

you cannot change your partner. he is who he is. either you accept that or leave. you can try and guide him pero siya pa din ang mag de-decide if he will change or not. yung ex ko he decided to change nung wala na kame. he realized his mistakes kaya inayos niya buhay niya. kaso too late na kasi ayoko na. as for me, i am in a much better place and wala nako tiwala na nagbago talaga ex ko. feeling ko babalik din siya sa dati kapag andito siya sa pilipinas. sa abroad kasi mahirap ang buhay kaya hindi ka na pwede mag bisyo pa.

sometimes we have to learn to cut our loses. if you stay, you have no right to complain. just work harder and get a higher paying salary or get sidelines. kesa sayanging mo energy mo sa kakapilit sa partner mo maging masipag at wala naman nangyayari, how about focus your energy on improving your finances. ganon kasi ginawa ko, hinayaan ko siya maging walang kwenta while i strive to earn more para sa amin ng anak ko. remember, the only person you can conrtol is you. so focus on you na lang. malay mo pag nakita niyang gumaganda ang buhay niyo mas ma inspire siya. good luck sis!

I mean, may anak sila so may karapatan syang magreklamo sa lalake kung hinde ito nagprprovide. Mabuti nga talaga at hinde kayo kasal.

MOMMYCUTE46.  IMO, gender should not define who does what in a relationship (except birthing children, course).
Who's got the better skills for what --  should be the guide.
Sino may kakayanan, or mas magaling sa whatever -- sya gumawa.

Ikaw yung may foresight, malawak na pag-intindi ng bagay bagay, may ambition, may sipag --  then, you be the one calling the shots in this relationship.
Accept that.  Then, he should accept that too.  1st hurdle yan: dapat both of you agree ikaw ang magsasabi pano at saan ang takbo ng buhay nyo.
Nothing wrong with that arrangement that you're the boss, but both of you must be ok with that.

2nd,  manage your husband as a businessman will manage an employee.
What is he good at, wants to do, and capable of doing with consistency?
I don 't mean to be offensive, but --  if all he is good for & willing to do day in and day out well is to follow you around like a PA -- go.
If he wants to be the 1 managing your home & kid -- go.

There are many successful women whose husbands play support roles.
It did not castrate most of the men --  and the wives sure brought in the big bucks.
Nothing wrong with that, good the couple freed themselves from traditional gender roles and expectations.

So there, expect nothing from him that requires independent thinking.  You do that for him. He is most comfy being an employee, make him your employee.  Whatever you can think of pagkikitahan -- he will mostly likely gladly do basta ikaw dumis-karte  what he will do daily.  He wants to  be directed day in and day out, so you do it.

a very close friend of mine is a Houseband. hehe

though minsan talaga may taong mag bring up ng stereotypes that men should do this and that...

for such set ups, and other unconventional set ups, i hope and pray that love will prevail until the end...

kasi at the 10 year mark, nandun na nagsisilabasan mga hinanakit at hang ups. tapos sa 15-20 year mark, yan na ang perfect storm.... make or break.

Ouch! Tinamaan ako dun ah  ;D. Pero tama ka naman sis. I'll be honest, 80% of me says "takbo na habang maaga pa" but 20% says "teka lang, baka may pag-asa pa".

Sis, hindi ko alam paano naging "kayo" with his attitude.  Paano mo sya nagustuhan before?

Ang hindi ko nagawa is iprint yong pay slip ko and include on the bills para black in white.   I do not maintain a secret account dahil sakto lang ang sahod ko para sa pang araw araw namin.

2 Mos pa lang baby namin, he wanted to work pero hindi na kami makahanap ng yaya that fits his budget. Siya kasi ang magbabayad. 1500 lang kaya niya so only her one SIL took the offer but after 2 mos na delayed ang sahod nag give up. So I had to ask him home and look after our son instead. Akala ko makakatulog ako ng matino knowing he's there for our son, pero pag-uwi ko every weekend nandun siya sa majongan. Even our son who is just one year old that time knows the place of that majongan.

Same with the security guard thing, siya ang kusa nanghiram for his license. Oh well? Wow!

How much are you willing to make your relationship work?

Meron pa palang willing to work for just P150 per day.

Well, don't complain now that you know Love is not enough to keep a family going.  Kick him out, or suck it up.

To quote

"For all those men who say, "Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free," here's an update for you.  Now 80% Of women are against marriage, why?  Because women realize it's not worth buying an entire pig, just to get a little sausage."

I agree. Marriage should be more than milk and sausage.

Hi sis TS, this might help:

How do you maintain walking power with your man if the word
“ambition” seems to be a foreign phrase to him? This is one of
those major relationship pitfalls I see every day that couples
struggle with.

I’ll show you just how to work through this and keep your own
ambition charging forward even if your man would rather sit on
the sidelines.

One of my clients (we’ll call her “Sara”) was seeing a guy
(we’ll call “Maverick”). He's 30, still a dog walker, and still
visits home every weekend. But she was crazy about him.

Maverick felt the same way but she felt he would not get over
his small town mindset even if their relationship got more
serious. However, he didn't see it as a problem. He genuinely
enjoyed walking dogs, it made him happy.

While leaving the country is something most adventurous people
put a priority on, he made a goal to try it once before the age
of forty-five. He didn't put adventure or money as a priority,
and he didn't want to.

Sara saw money and adventure as prime luxuries of life and too
much time without them would be dull and boring. It was painful
for her to see her man not have the same priorities that made
her happy.

For some women, ambition is not a huge problem. They don't need
it or seek it in the men they are with. They are OK being the
ambitious one. But for a lot of women, it's a must have.

And if this is you, you can't change or ignore that. Well you
can try, but it won't work out for you well.

If these newsletters seem like they are leading you to weed out
all the men you're interested in, you may be right. We are
trying to weed out all the losers, which is a term you get to
define for yourself. Only you know what you personally want in a
relationship and what is a deal breaker for you.

Life isn't long enough for you to give every man a shot. You
should only have the best options.

Sara was hurt by the fact that he probably would never live
outside of a 30 mile radius from his childhood home, and that he
never wanted to try doing something that would make more money
than dog walking. She was torn by his lack of ambition and her
love for him. He clearly loved her and treated her well in return.

Where does it seem like this story would lead? Does it seem like
she should forget about the his lack of ambition and motivation
and pretend things are fine as she goes on loving him anyways?

Not if it's important to her.

It's so interesting to me why people "forget" about the things
that are important to them. Or, pretend like they are suddenly
not as important to them once they are in a relationship.

Your values and what is important to you make up who you are!
And your guy surely doesn't want you to lose who you are,
because then what else is left?

Forgetting about or ignoring what is important to you is
forgetting who you are.

This kind of delusion doesn't happen overnight. Let me introduce
a thought to you here as to why this usually happens. People
start “forgetting” because they lose hope. It seems impossible
to actually have everything that's important to them, or too
great of a risk to lose what they already have, so people turn a
blind eye to it.

Basically, it makes things easier on our hearts. If we convince
ourselves that this thing we cherish, like learning another
language, finishing school, having kids, trying out stand-up
comedy, etc isn't actually important to us.

We give up our interests for the sake of holding onto a
relationship and not being alone. Really, it's reason enough to
sit down and ask yourself a question. Is it time to leave?

Only you can answer that question. I'm not suggesting you leave
your man at the first hint of dissention or disagreement on your
life goals. I'm suggesting asking yourself if this is what you
really want if you aren’t pursuing your interests because you’ve
sacrificed them for the sake of your relationship.

I'm not saying you're going to get everything you want or need
in a relationship. That's impractical and foolish.

But you can get the things that are most important to you if you
really want to! The "make-or-break-its”.

Then, no matter how handsome, rich, or comforting he may be, if
you forget why you put yourself through a breakup, you just have
to remind yourself of one thing:

"It was because he wasn't ambitious enough and ambition is
really important to me. I need someone who is excited about life
and wants to continue growing and moving forward."

Of course feel free to replace "ambition" with whatever it is
for you. Perhaps it’s exploring new places, trying new foods,
reaching for the next promotion in your career, or anything else
that is important to you.

Do your own thing. If you don't want to settle, you don't have
to. And don't forget what is important to you. Ask yourself, “If
I wasn’t in a relationship, what would I be pursuing right now?”
Your answer to that question should be something you go after
whether you have a relationship or not.

I told Sara to envision her ideal life and to pursue it. If that
means she only sees Maverick half the year, then that's fine if
he's OK with it too. Your dreams don't need to go to the wayside
because of your relationship. You can have both as long as you
believe in yourself and stick to your standards.

Most of the time, if you're a great girlfriend, a prize he wants
to be with, and have a strong relationship, the guy will
scramble to get his s*** together because you inspire him.

You may be saying "But Nick, I love him just the way he is.”

That’s fine. You can continue loving him. There’s no harm in
that. But love does not conquer all, not in relationships.

Love your life and make sure you’re actually living it. You can
continue loving this man, but don’t let him hold you back and
make you sacrifice your life for the relationship.

Once you are confidently on your own path, no one else can throw
you off. Stick to your guns and your relationship will be that
much stronger.

With love,
Nick Bastion

Long read pero he has a point. :-)
