How to have a SHARP mind? Please help...
« on: November 15, 2013, 05:22:49 pm »
When I started working (3 years ago), I felt and observed that my mind is slowly deteriorating (I don't know how to describe it). I easily forget things. For example, I read a work-related document and I know I understood it while reading, after that, I tend to forget the points as if I did not read it at all. I get frustrated about this because I am an honor students since Grade 1 to college and people are praising me for being intelligent (getting high grades, etc.). But when I had my career, I feel so slow and incompetent. I could not handle my tasks very well because I could hardly understand instructions from superiors. Nagegets ko naman but then parang I feel na it takes some time para maabsorb ko lahat. Ang hina ng pick-up ko. I feel bad about myself. I really want to improve/change this.

To sisses out there, who have SHARP minds (i.e., mabilis mag-isip, strong ang presence of mind, mabilis makaintindi ng instructions), please share tips and advices. What should I do to activate my mind?

Could this be just a learning curve? I find that it helps me when I have a 15 minute alone time in the evening just to clear my mind ;)

Check you're in good health & getting enough sleep.
When I lack sleep - me katangahan ako (IMO) -- I don't go to meetings, I don't negotiate, I don't sign big amount POs/sub-contracting.  My responses on days I am not as sharp as I usually am: Tomorrow. I will see. Maybe.

Train your mind to be quick.
I watch different kinds of shows, read different kinds of books, listen to all kinds of cuentos, &  maintain my curiosity.
The more you absorb, the more you expand the platforms for processing new stuff.

I agree with sleep and focus. Make sure nothing else is bothering you..
Coffee helps me rin..maintains my mental stamina.. palagi kase ako mentally
Absent due to boredom and daydreaming.. hehe

Or magbreak ka.. ubosin mo yung daydream or pag.isip ng ibang bagay heehe

Thanks to your tips and advises sisses. I'm starting to read books few weeks ago. I started with a book na feel-good lang. Yung hindi masyadong pinaprocess ng mind yung mga scenes sa book. However, I feel na mabagal yung pace ko sa pagbabasa. Is this normal for someone na hindi mahilig magbasa? Nagsosolve din ako ng mga crossword puzzles and sudoku - my way of training my mind din.

Anyway, sis dashee, I'm planning to take masters next year. Hopefully makatulong. Thanks again.

MEMO Plus  :)  it works for me lalo na lage puyat tapos marami ring readings for graduate studies.

With aging and stress, normal na talaga yung humihina ang brain. I do agree with the sisses kailangan may ibang outlet ka. Reading helps kahit light lang and try the word jumble/ search puzzles sa newspapers.

I find that playing games sharpen my mind lalo na pag yung mga kasama ko sa trabaho eh mga t@nga, mahirap na at baka mahawa.  One website to try is www.luminosity.com

Taking a break from the monotonous treadmill called work also helps!

Sis sima, do you have subscriptions sa lumosity? I am familiar with that site a long time ago, but since I read negative reviews, I was discouraged. Negative reviews like, you will get hooked on their tests but at the end of it, you will be notified that you cannot proceed and view your score if you will not subscribe and pay the subscription fee. And there is also an automatic charging in your credit card once your subscription expires.

Urgh i have the same issues :< mas feel ko pa kase nasa academe ang work ko. Minsan i feel ang bobo ko. Haaayy.

Pero i know at some point it's the lifestyle i live, laging puyat kase. Pero here's the thing -- i read a lot. My work requires loads of reading and talking. Pero yun nga pag puyat, ang bagal ko magprocess.

i guess a better read will be encyclopedias. i remember back when i was younger, i love love reading encyclopedias and really gaining knowledge from them and my mind has been pretty sharp. ngayon nga i want to revert back to reading encyclopedias (vs your typical book) para i get to kill two birds with one stone. doing what i love (reading books) and gaining knowledge from them.  ;)

Try to take better care of yourself.  Magpa-checkup ka like an annual physical exam or just go to the doctor pag may nararamdaman ka, try to relax, get plenty of sleep and eat a balanced diet.  Mahirap kasi magfocus kapag pagod ka, puyat, stressed or pag may sakit ka.  Mahirap maging superwoman kung yung katawan mo e bibigay na.  Prioritize your health, ito ang pinaka-important factor kasi everything depends on this.

It also helps to read a lot, marami ka matututunan if you're eager to read.  It doesn't have to be limited to your line of work--you can read up on current events, history, interior design magazines, DIY projects, etc.  The important thing is that this keeps your mind engaged.

You should also interact with other people more.  You can spend time with friends or join a volunteer group or share your opinions online--the point here is the sharing of ideas and the conversation that goes with it.  It'll help strengthen your listening skills mas masasanay ka to have a quicker response time to things kasi there's someone waiting for your end of the conversation, mas mapipilitan ka to think on your feet.
