Earthquake?  Yes, this is precisely one of my worries in staying in Manila because hindi naman sa pagbubuhat ng bangko, pero hindi pa ako tumira sa squatter before.  So kung magkaron ng malaking lindol, baka mangyari iyan sakin kasi wala akong tulong na maasahan sa gobyerno natin, this is despite paying millions of taxes. Kaya nakakapikon.

^^ nakakatakot and to think hindi prepared talaga ang government natin. Wala tayong aasahan but ourselves siguro mag prepare talaga ng mga kits at mag stock ng food( kung papalarin na hindi gumuho ang bahay mo) kasi hindi talaga natin alam kung kelan yan. Ang daming lumang buildings na rin dito sa manila, siguro kung major quake yan expect natin na it's magnitude 7 and up. Nakakatrauma kasi yung ngyayari dito sa trahedya ngayon, mapapaisip ka din ng "what if's."

For me si Gordon din ang bet ko, sana tumakbo siya. My relative works for unicef and everytime may calamity pumupunta sila doon sa lugar. Yung ngyaring flashflood sa mindanao dati nakita niya kung paano magtrabaho si Gordon with PNRC, he's very strict pero effective mga plans nila. Yes, maganda din ginawa nya sa SMBA at yung WOW Philippines buhay na buhay dati.

Last night I was in line at a local walmart to send money for my fellow kababayans when I witnessed a heart warming gesture from a stranger. A mother and her son approached the counter and told the cashier that they wanted to send money to the Philippines. When I heard them say "Philippines", it caught my attention so I glanced at them, they do look like Filipinos but their accent is different.

The cashier asked who they wanted to send the money to, they said "We don't know anyone from the Philippines, we just want to donate". So the cashier asked them if they want to choose some agencies that previous people sent money to to help the Philippines and they said yes, they looked at the cashier's computer screen. They have chosen the Philippine Red Cross(perhaps Red Cross was familiar to them). When Cashier asked how much they wanted to send, the mother said $750. They started to count it in front of the cashier, it's mostly $20s and $5s, as she was counting it, she explained that some of the money is from her son's savings, her son gave a big smile to the cashier feeling happy about his gesture! That melted my heart and made me feel goosebumps all over.

When they were done, I couldn't help myself, I had to say something. I approached them and said "Thank you in behalf of the Filipino people they help!"(I was almost teary-eyed). The mother smiled at me and asked me if I'm Filipino and if my family is okay back home, I said yes they're fine and thank her again for asking.

Her name is Len, she is from Vietnam and her son's name is David, 8 yrs old.

There are many help coming from all over the world and I am happy to witness it here, perfect strangers helping our countrymen...

^^ thanks for that info bro. hahanapin ko yan, dito ako sa taguig nakatira ngayon ang dami pa namang nagtatayuang buildings dito. Sabi kasi sa napanuod long news few weeks ago sabi as much as possible umalis nalang o mas patibayin pa yung foundation, eh pano kung sa highrise ka nakatira. Not sure kung ang buildings natin dito eh sing tibay ng nasa japan.

Kaya we need to learn from this yolanda tragedy talaga and prepare ourselves kung sakaling mas may dumating pa na mas malaki pang trahedya.

Napanood ko sa UKG kanina yung news about dun sa officer na sinesante because nagbigay ng wrong figures sa media. Yung nagsabi na around 10K daw yung deaths. I don't know kung anong iniisip ni PNOY pero I think he lacks sensitivity to the circumstances of others. He himself told Amanpour na "there's emotional trauma involved with that particular estimate". Personally, kung ako mismo naranasan yung mga naranasan nila at nakita kung gaano kadaming kababayan ko ang namatay hindi rin malalyo yung assumptions ko sa binigay ni Mr. Soria. May pagkukulang man sya dahil hindi base sa facts yung statements nya, firing him, I think, is too much.

Hindi rin tuloy nakapagpigil si Anthony Taberna at napakapag comment na kung si PNOY kaya ang magkamali, sisisantihin din ba sya?

but seriously, when we were staying in manila before, may baril kami sa bahay. though sabi namin for self defense, but it is really in times na magkaron ng chaos sa manila (uso pa nun yung mga coup), or in cases na mawala ang law and order, you really need to defend yourself.

and worse pa kasi, even if the funds are used to help the victims, minsan palpak ang decision making, nasisira din ang food or nananakaw (because of lawlessness nga).  kaya nakakadepress talaga.

Hindi naman sa dinedefend ko si PNOY, pero kahit sinong presidente pa iyan, it will be the same. Did we have a better choice of presidents during election?  Hindi rin naman. Kahit pa si Arroyo iyan, the Philippine government is just full of BS.  Dyan mo makikita kung gaano sila ka inutil at lampa, pero kung makapapel ang yayabang pag election. 

No matter how much aid people give, it is to no avail.  Alam ko maraming magsasabi, huwag na tayo magturuan during the crisis. Tumulong nalang at huwag magcriticize. Eh di ba iyan naman lagi natin ginagawa?  And it brought the country nowhere, and instead, further down.

The delays in the relief efforts had already been frustrating enough because everyone understands the urgency of survival, and as days passes, its getting slim (like the 88-year old man who finally died out of starvation: http://ph.news.yahoo.com/88-year-old-man-dies-in-leyte-while-waiting-for-aid-070717207.html)  :~(   ...but the lack of sympathy, empathy (at lahat ng -thy!) of Pnoy just fuels the frustration to anger!  it just clearly shows he's more BS than he had promised PRIOR to the typhoon coming in (re:  quick response ng government and relief goods all ready after).  Yet he blames (and fires the cop who reported "wrong" estimates), the lack of this and that (when aid has been provided), and the weather on international media!  The disaster is so widespread and massive BUT he is the president, and he has all the power to do something about it. 

That makes it "third world" thinking.  It does not make a valid excuse elsewhere. 

I think Cooper's coverage is very concise. Ang hirap naman kay Korina purkit asawa nya si Mar, ang galing galing na ng gobyerno natin?  Hindi na ba sila nahiya?  At sila pa magagalit kung na critcize sila?

TV Patrol aired last night that Mar Roxas and Dinky Soliman were in Ormoc (and/or Samar) and they have brought WORD (NO relief goods) that AID is coming.  It was also reported that 3 (if my memory serves me right) are tasked for this operation: Dinky Soliman, Mar Roxas and another for logistics.  Omg, takes them x days to accomplish this?!!

Sabi pa ni Cooper --- "In every report we have done, we have showed how strong Filipino people are...they're strong for not only having survived this storm, but they have survived the aftermath of the storm. Idagdag ko lang.... Yes, the Filipinos are strong. For having survived typhoons after typhoons, for having survived Yolanda, and putting up with corruption and government's mediocrity; for withstanding it all these years and still having faith in its government. They are really strong people.

In one of his reports, he also quickly remarked that looting was done so that everyone could survived, food was given out to neighbors and families.  Mrs. Romualdezes had stated that her husband had nothing when he stayed behind to help out and was given a stolen shorts because he needed it. 

Despite the madness, bayanihan still showed through.

I still cannot forget the look on the faces of news anchors from cnn/bbc/al jazeera last night - pure disbelief - because it has been a WEEK pero konting improvements lang nairereport sa kanila. Although nagdadatingan na mga relief goods, mabagal pa din... One reporter from cnn said any amount/form of help should have been provided within 24 hrs after the typhoon struck, kung gumamit sana ng motor boats etc. etc... Medyo nangagamba na nga daw mga locals na nasa hospital, ang sabi pano na sila pag nag-alisan na yung mga foreign doctors, which i think will happen anytime soon...

nakakalungkot naman yung mga elderly na namatay while waiting for help. e di ba nasa locations na yung mga magbibigay ng medical attention tapos inuuna yung mga elderly, bata, at urgent cases? baka hindi alam ng government may nag-iintay doon na mga tao? kasi bakit hindi sila pinuntahan? matanda na tapos gutom pa, e hindi talaga sila makakababa ng bundok...dapat pinuntahan sila.

ang SOP ata nila sa mga ganitong okasyon e tao ang pupunta sa relief center? dapat parang search and rescue diba? pati ata mga patay gusto nila bumangon at maglakad papuntang airport. health hazard kaya ang mga bangkay na nakakalat.

Yup, again, that's Philippines for you. Kung nakapagsilbi sila ng maayos, baka magulat pako.  From Day1, orderliness at military lang ang comment ko. Kasi you have to first be on the ground, put order to things for logistics to kick in.  I am not a politician nor a genius to figure that out.  Sila pa kaya.

Maybe this time, someone right can come along to rescue the Philippines that this cannot happen again.  Pero for me, it is a lost case.  It is simply beyond me to see in this lifetime that the country can be run properly.

Ganyan ka insensitive, inutil ang gobyerno. It is all a big joke. Tapos bayad ka ng bayad ng taxes, VAt, para ano? Magpayaman si Napoles at kung sino pang mga politicians? Samantalang ang gutom lalong magugutom, ang middle class will be left off fending for themselves until maging isa narin sila sa nagugutom?

I wouldn't be expressing my frustrations this much kung hindi ko (or natin) nawiwitness in local/international news ang kakulangan ni pnoy/govt., yung mga babies and elderlies na inabutan na ng kamatayan ng nakadilat or nakaupo, naghihintay sa tulong na hindi agad nabigay sa kanila... Also, i know someone personally na affected, my cousin-in-law,  she said she's so crushed/broken kasi until now wala pa news about her parents and the rest of her relatives na nasa tanauan, leyte... From what i know, tanauan is one of the highly devastated areas na hindi pa din ata naabutan ng help until now.

You have to feed, maintain medical supplies, provide water for millions for months.  And I bet you, one of the reasons kaya na h hold yung relief goods, aside from walang right transportation facilities, or resources, I am sure may mga ilan na powerful na nagh hold nyan, para sa mga kakilala nila sa Tacloban, or para sa mga kamag anak.

Bakit naman kasi Day3 palang dagsa na ang aid, pero walang dumadating?  San napupunta? 

Stories are heartbreaking.  Especially seeing the survivors see their loved ones dead (floating wherever or hanging wherever), and wala man lang maka retrieve ng body and children seeing their dead parents at that state.  Sobrang nakakapanggalit talaga - where is the government on all these?
