Back to applying freelance jobs after long hiatus.

Not bad.

Quote
I don't recommend applying to unverified clients, clients with short hire history (3 hires with feedback is short to me), clients who have still spent small amounts (less than $200 is small to me) unless you are quite experienced dealing with clients.

Reasons: 1) maraming manloloko sa mga ito, 2) pareho pa kayong nangagapa sa odesk system, 3) [for unverified clients] because their accounts are unverified, they have to usually pass the process of verifying their accounts. In my experience with new clients that verification takes a while - mga one week or so. May mga clients na hindi agad nakakapagverify so they arrange for payments outside odesk. Pwedeng magkalokohan dito.

It also doesn't mean walang manlolokong verified clients.

No good reason to turn on video - in particular sa job na ginagawa ko. Hindi naman ako nag-apply as model o artista.  :P

Haha, but what if your client uses Skype video?  Is it okay na hindi din mag-video?  Ayoko talaga nag-skype for interview, ewan ko I feel so uncomfortable.

Haha!

Yes. I tried accessing it sa internet cafe pero same thing parin, im scared naman to ask for odesk assistance since wala pakong ID baka isuspend nila account ko since di ko pa maverify, January ko pa mapa-process yung ID ko, i think its unfair lang kasi i have friends na di naman ganun yung account nila.

Call them na sis for assistance. Kinuha ko sa website.

+1 (855) 676-3375

Available from 6am to 6pm PST
Monday to Friday.

I don't think you'd be suspended.

Usually po, client requires for video interview because they sometimes verify kung ikaw nga yung nasa id mo and to check din if you have a good internet connection. It requires more bandwidth kasi once you are on a video call compare to audio call. I hope this helps. ^_^

Hmm.. so they don't trust the odesk system? hehe.

Pero the client seeing you on video cam doesn't guarantee na hindi manloloko o hindi magkakaproblema yung freelancer na gusto nilang i-hire.  :P

The only good thing for the video is to check good internet connection. Yun nga lang sayang sa oras because interviews are not usually billed. At least you're paid. If they like you, then they give you more projects. Malalaman naman nila if you are having problems along the way - probably no more additional projects kung ganun ang mangyari.

I've accepted video calls at one point to try, pero prefer ko pa rin ang email or chat just because I can review instructions easily over and over again. But again, syempre it differs on other online jobs rin na kailangan naman talaga ng video/high speed connection - maybe those who do call center tasks or those who collaborate sa mga weekly meetings. But for majority of jobs online, there's really no need.

I remember one experience shared ng isang sis dito sa thread na ito way back. Interview pa lang yun. Hindi na appropriate ang pinapagawa sa kanya. Yun ang ayaw nating mangyari.

^^

Nice to see a web dev around. :)

Let us know kung naresolve rin ang issues mo.

Project manager sis.  Kasi dati through e-mail lang yung questions, nowadays pansin ko halos lahat ng for interview e gusto Skype.  Thanks sa reply sis.

^ Naexperience ko kasi yun before sa gdev. They really require for a video interview. Siguro ganun lang talaga yung procedures nila on hiring freelancers. Pero most of the time talaga, yung mga client that require video call is just checking if you have good internet connection. Depende parin talaga sa client at sa project. ^_^

Hi mga ate! I'm a  college undergrad and i'm in need of a job now. Anyone here who can give me a few tips para makapag start sa Odesk sa Data Entry field? :[ Sana may makatulong.

Regarding video interview/calls:

I almost always talk to clients using video calls. It's another way for me to gauge if they are real, sincere and honest people. It's kind of meeting face to face pero virtually lang. Some would comment lang on how you look pero that's normal.

I'm also a project manager, I always do video calls sa interview if and when I need additional workers. I want to test their internet speed kasi. And I want to check if the one registered in odesk is the one using the account.

Re: verified/unverified payment methods
As much as possible, I don't apply to those job postings. Kapag meron naginvite at competitive naman ang offer niya at maayos kausap, I give a chance. Minsan I hit a jackpot.

Fresh from Odesk's Facebook Page:

Odesk + Elance = Merge

https://www.odesk.com/blog/2013/12/MergerFAQ/

Sana magkaroon ng escrow for fixed price jobs...
as long as documented sa odesk/elance yung project, matatanggap ng contractor yung payment...*fingers crossing  ;)

^i received that email too.  ???

they should be working on going back some features na nakasanayan tulad ng individual tracking time ng mga assignments sa oDesk Tools. >:(

on the light mood, may nag-survey sa akin from freelancer.com marketing sa akin. :o naubos yata yung english dictionary ko.  ;D

sana may 2 weeks vacations ako. happy holidays everyone!  :-*
