Paano mag career shift?

I'm an IT graduate but Iend up being a call center agent. I know there is no big deal being an Agent but for Compensation wise, greener pasture kapag napractice ko yung pagiging I.T ko. Hindi ko alam kung san ako mag sisimula. Nagpasa na ako ng resignation and I'm looking forward for new opportunities. Please guide me mga sis lalo na yung mga IT in profession.

I've been in the BPO industry for 7 years, from 2005 to 2011, i just shifted to the retail industry last year and just celebrated my first year in this new industry.

How long have you been in the BPO industry? What account have you worked for? It should be easy for you to make a career shift from BPO to IT since all companies have an IT department. Depending on your BPO experience you can aim for an IT Helpdesk or IT Administrator. What IT course did you finish and do you have any IT certifications? Most companies nowadays look for IT certifications when they are hiring IT Administrators. Hope this helps.

What kind of an IT experience are you looking for?

I was practicing my course when I graduated but moved to an IT company to try it. Now I realize I'm not much of a technical person. I will probably shift careers again but only if same or greater compensation since I cannot afford to take risks at the moment.

The course I took is BSC Major in Banking and Finance. I ended up working in various BPOs and now I am a team lead for back office.

I am considering going back to school and take an IT course kasi parang ayoko na talaga sa BPO. I am not doing calls pero naiistress na ko ng bongga sa trabaho ko, plus I wanted to escape my call center life.

Gusto ko ng normal na oras ng tulog at sukang suka na ko sa pulitika sa opisina.

i' m working on a IT company but yung account ko hindi sya pang IT. 1yr and half na ako at sukang suka na din ako kakatawag.. nakakabobo din kasi.. paulit ulit. Hahaha!  Tumagal ako kasi medyo maganda yung benefits but iba talaga na may na iinput ka di lang sa bulsa mo kundi sa utak mo.

how about doing lateral transfer?  check for internal openings and apply if may gusto ka and tingin mo qualified ka.  i started out as an agent sa dating company ko then transferred departments pagka-graduate ko. now, i'm working in an it company, but will probably do a lateral transfer ulit in a few years or so to pursue a dba path.

@purple_girl naisip ko na din yan kasi at first hindi naman talaga agent ang inapplyan ko sa company ko but since needed talaga nila ng agent which is Im qualified naman, temporary position lang daw muna and if open na yung gusto kong post endorse daw nila ako agad. Pero mag 1 year na ako sa post na to walang ngyari at puro pulitika pa dito... Malalaman mo na may internal hiring pero pinost lang nila yun pero ang totoo may napili na sila at papaasahin ka lang. hays! I hate my job!

^yun lang... sa case ko kasi it really helped na okay yung team lead and manager ko and tinulungan nila akong ayusin yung sa lateral transfer. it also helped na ang attrition ko will be counted against them had i resigned. alam kasi nila na may plans akong mag-resign nun and may jo ako from another company.

Tumagal kasi ako kasi masaya naman kaso habang tumatagal talamak na talaga ang kalawang sa company namin. Ewan! kaya habang maaga ka maka-ahon na at maunahan pa! hahahaha!!!

hi, tumuloy po kayo sa pagkuha ng IT course? kasi im a business management graduate, working as a secretary in one government agency since paggraduate ko. I also want to career shift sa field ng IT or computer science. Actually, aim ko maging programmer. IT husband ko pero di programmer. Palagi niyang kinukwento na ang lalaki daw ng sweldo ng programmer sa kanila.. kaya parang gusto ko ng magshift.. 26 years old pa naman ako, so not bad pa for career shift. kasi sa office parang walang career growth. forever kang secretary (no offense sa mga secretarial job) except kung mag-aral ka ng law (law firm kasi yung office namin) na will take 5 years. so sabi ko sa husband ko parang gusto magprivate at computer programmer. kaso may magulo isip sa mga bagay na to:

1. BS information Technology ba ang kukunin ko o BS Computer Science since gusto ko programmer? which is better?
2. Anong school na maganda na marami kang matutunan?
     a.) UP malayo samin (nasa makati office ko at muntinlupa naman ang bahay namin) at feeling ko mahirap ang exam,
     b.) MAPUA- mahal ang tuition at QUATERSEM PA. Sa mga nabasa ko almost 40,000 PER SEM sa tuition.
     c.) INFORMATICS, STI and AMA- di maxado mahal ang tuition pero worth it ba? maganda ba ang mga turo? andami kasing mga bad feedback din from other bloggers (no offense po sa mga nag.aral)

pakibigyan naman ako ng good advice if needed ko pa po bang kumuha ng BS course o okay na mga training nalang? feedback naman from people na nagschool sa above-mentioned schools.. TIA

^Hi sis, di pa ko nakakapagenroll since I just resigned, kulang pa ipon ko, what I plan to do is take short courses lang talaga, yung 2 yr course ng Information Technology since meron na akong degree mas maganda kung internation diploma. I cannot give my input on your questions yet kasi kailangan ko pa din magtanong tanong sa mga IT friends ko.

Or I hope may maganswer na mga sissies naten here who took an IT/Computer Science course so they can help us out medyo clueless pa ako to be honest.

hi sis, ako din eh di ko pa alam kung school or training ba? pero gusto ko sana ng school para maaral ko rin yung ibang programming di lang nakacenter sa isa. in case kasi magamit ko in the future.. yun nga lang 2-3 years na naman. at ang tuition din kasi.. kung training lang eh di ka naman magiging flexi.. haaayzzz.. balitaan mo ako sis kung san ka magtraining or aral ah.. im still weighing options.. today nagbabasa pa me sa net mga programming 101.. para di me clueless... madami lang kasi..basta ah post ka agad if may balita ka ah TIA

Plan ko din magshift to a programmer position, malayong-malayo ang course ko sa IT. Mga sis, suggest naman kayo ng schools na nag-ooffer ng basic short courses. MFI has good reviews pero hintayan pa ng enrollees before magstart ng classes.

You can try gunning for an IT certification towards the specialization you want - Oracle DBA, CCNA, A+ and then apply for a transfer within your company.

Or look for  Programmer Trainee or similar positions in other companies that are willing to train.

Or apply for IT Help Desk positions and then work your way up.

I think I understand your feeling, just like yours, I'm planning to resign na din in my current work and change my career path, not because nakakasuka na,.. but because there's nothing new. Kumbaga wala na akong ginawa kundi ang recruitment. My boss did not offer any changes din,. sino nga naman gaganahan? besides company lang nila ang pinapayaman nila at sila sila lang din ang nakikinabang sa mga pinaghihirapan namin,.. ni walang pagpapahalaga sa mga employee nila, As long as napapakinabangan nila aang tao ay okay na okay. Ito ang panget sa Recruitment Agency na pinasukan ko. Ewan ko ba bakit napagtitiisan ko pa ito. Swerte na nga ata sila sakin at nakapag-stay me dito for 4 years pero ngayon piilitinko talagang makahanap ng mas better at ibang kompanya naman ang tutulungan ko >=c

On Topic; Siguro since na back to zero ka sa IT, you can start as IT Admin, System Administrator. Depende din iyan sa tatanggap sa qualification mo.. tingin ko hindi pa naman ang huli ang lahat. Ang napansin ko nga lang na magiging komplikasyon sa pag a-apply lalo na sa mga walang experience ay talagang mapapasabak ka dahil most of the time. Most companies are looking for applicants who have 1-2 years related experience.. You must be lucky if  open sila to train you,.. Goodluck saiyo and Godbless!

Hi to all! I am an RN but currently nasa IT field ako specifically in Software Testing.

Like what sis PhamLuis23 mentioned, you can try to apply for a programmer trainee position. May mga companies such as Accenture, Pointwest, Capgemini, Azeus, etc. na willing to train candidates even those not coming from an IT background. This is actually how I got into the IT field even though ang layo ng course ko! 

The advantage of this kind of program is that you are learning while receiving compensation at the same time. Maganda din dahil magiging exposed ka na sa IT industry. I suggest though na habang mas maaga, magbasa na din ng programming basics para at least may knowledge bago sumabak sa training.

ako naman mga sis...

after graduation I worked in a BPO na so total years ko in the BPO industry is roughly 7 years.. last year I came to a point na ayaw ko na talaga ang mag work sa BPO nakakasuka na talaga....so lakas loob ako mag apply kung saan saan as in...basta huwag lang BPO...now im working in a bank..

I really prayed na sana makakuha ako ng work na hindi na BPO and God answered my prayer..kahit wala akong banking experience they still hired me as an officer.

dumating din ako sa point na down na down ako kasi walang ibang industry ang tumatanggap saakin kasi wala naman akong experience na kahit ano puro BPO lang...

btw im an economics graduate. hindi ko naman practice kasi nga nasilaw ako sa offer ng mga BPO before noong kaka graduate ko palang. kaya super thankful ko talaga was able to change industry kahit na 30 na ako..

ang masasabi ko lang lakasan lang talaga ng loob saka kung decided ka talaga magbago ng industry / career I pursue mo lang...

Ako din I want to change career. I've been working for 9 years na same industry lang. Ayoko na ng BPO i want change. Pano kaya mag apply sa bank or other job wag lang bpo.

I've posted here before. I'm already in the IT field. I suggest before shifting careers make sure that you know what you want and why you're doing it. Alam mo dapat saang field ka lilipat and what to expect. Also, be ready to accept entry-level salary siyempre.

I'm a communications grad and have no background whatsoever in IT. Got accepted in a programmee trainee position. Before that, nagbabasa-basa muna ko konti sa C language. This really helped. Meron din free courses online like sa coursera, edx, etc.
