I am also a first time mom and gave birth at the age of 33.  Just like you, I have those thoughts in mind so I prepared myself for a CS then.  I discussed it with my OB, the risks and all those things we are hearing about wanting to give birth through NSD but in the end went through CS due to cord coil, baby pooped inside etc etc.  Good thing my OB kept on encouraging me that I can do it through NSD.  Every prenatal check-up, we discuss on this until I was finally convinced that I'll have my baby delivered the natural way.  A week before I gave birth, I already had a bloody show and a few cm dilated already so I was to give birth any time from then on.  My hubby and I had been waiting anxiously for 2 days that we have to take our leaves from work early.  On the 3rd day of waiting, my hubby asked me to call my OB and go through CS delivery instead.  But since, I was prepared by my OB to go through the NSD, I still waited until my baby wants to come out.  In the end, 8 days after that, I gave birth through NSD, painless.  Thank you so much to my very kind OB.  I do really do thank her so much for the encouragement and support.

9 days ago i gave birth via CS i was expecting and prepared my self to have NSD unfortunately my doctor found out na konti na lang para ang amniotic fluid ko right after ultrasound diretsyo na ako sa operating room. yung supposed check up ko ang ultrasound, biglang yun na pala yung araw ng i CCS ako.

hindi ako nag labor nor nakaramdam ng contractions kasi direstyong CS ako, but kung sakali sana i will still prefer NSD.. mahirap din ang CS lalo na pag nasa recovery room na, i was chilling, numb  but sane. i wanted that time to have bonding agad with my baby pero i cant physically kasi iniinda ko yung chilling. mahirap din ang makagalaw galaw agad dahil sa sugat..

I'm 24 weeks  right now, I do a lot of walking and balance diet mahirap kasi ilabas ang baby kapag malaki e. :P

to have NSD, depende ba sa laki or bigat ni baby? if sa bigat, ilan lang dapat yung weight nya for NSD?

Hi sis! Sometimes the weight is not an issue. Like, with my son.. he was only  6.9 lbs pero I gave birth via CS whereas, yung husband ko naman, he was 9 lbs pero NSD siya. Case-to-case basis siya eh.. depending on the mother and baby's condition. Yung son ko was Type B Nuchal Cord baby kasi kaya na-CS ako.

^ please never believe your OB when they say "maliit" sipit sipitan mo, wanting to have a scheduled CS early on. How can they say it's too small? Do they have a way of measuring it? It's their way of convincing you to say yes to CS. Unless your baby grows too big, which you should be wary of not packing too many pounds during the last stages of your pregnancy, then that's the only time it should be an option to do CS.

Also, you would have to deal with being forgetful after the general anesthesia.

sis, cephalo pelvic disproportion can be measured via fetal utz and xray pelvimetry.. :)

first option is nsd then if it didnt progress, or something goes bad, agree to cs, dont take a risk.. its much better talaga ang nsd, pero there are instances talaga naman na cs.. you just have to trust your ob, kaya nga tayo ang pumipili ng ob :)

im a cs mom and i dont regret, i underwent trial of labor but it didnt progress.. the reason was, triple cord coil at the neck, stomach and feet so how come nga naman bababa ang baby ko.. :( cord coil depends kasi how tight and how many times kaya yung iba pwedeng nsd.. kaya ako no regrets.. :)

1. due to the movies/shows that we usually watched, kung saan yung mga nanganganak ang ingay ingay/sigaw ng sigaw, ganyan yung karamihan sa behavior nila. the ob told us na shouting will never help us in delivering the baby via NSD. one should know the right breathing technique and conserve her energy para pag major push na, may strength siya. 2. while on labor pain, it is better that you walk and make 'ire' everytime na nagcocontract yung tummy. in this way, hindi lang natural contractions yung nagpapa descend sa baby. ika nga, may tulong ka din. some mommies kasi preferred lying on the bed. 3. i also believe that if you have the gynecoid type of pelvic bone, malaki yung chance na makadeliver ka ng baby via NSD. 4. dapat, pinaghandaan mo din like walking weeks before your due date etc.

nung nanganak ako, i really wanted to have a delivery via NSD kahit pa halos lahat sabi i cannot deliver my baby via NSD. kaya what i did, as early as 36 weeks, walk na ako from work to house. do things that will make my pelvis soften like sex with hubby  :D (sperm daw has prostaglandin that can soften the pelvis) do squatting, etc. and while naglelabor ako, i walk also and help my baby descend by making 'ire' everytime na nagcocontract yung tiyan ko. voila, after 3 hours of labor, nanganak ako! gulat talaga sila lahat after they found out na NSD ako kasi yung weight ng baby ko 8.8 lbs and my height is only 4'11.  ;D

sis, i can imagine your episiorrhaphy.. thats good to hear na nakaya mo nsd.. and ok kayo both ni baby.. :)

and i agree sa no sex na as early as 34 weeks pa nga the other ob advise.. kasi it can cause early labor, yung mga premature babies namin sometimes yun yung cause.. kaya check ups pa lang sinasabihan na, or kung hindi maiwasn, wear condom si hubby.. :) but if you are a 40 weeker na, sabi na namin sa patients, go! go! go! na para mag labor na sila! :))

sis what has your OB said to address your concerns? The concerns you had on cord coil, meconium staining, fetal distress, your OB should be able to explain to you how she would be able to detect these things during your labor.

What others have said, please consider the long term effects of a CS operation. It is still considered a major operation as opposed to NSD. NSD can also be painless naman if you get the epidural at the right time.

I prayed thru my entire pregnancy to give birth via NSD, I was terrified of the thought of being cut open! I did everything I could to ensure a NSD birth. Yes labor was painful for awhile, but after the epidural was put in, the pain was minimal. I was able to walk about 8 hours after giving birth and was pretty much healed 2 weeks later. This is opposed to a CS operation where it would take a long time to heal the wound. If I recall correctly, it will take a few months for the upper layers of the skin to heal, but the deeper layers take up to 2 years to heal. That is why a lot of OBs would recommend 2 years of spacing between kids when you have had a CS delivery.

ako mga sis 24 weeks mega walk na rin ako, infairness wala ako manas and proper diet, kapag malapit na ako manganak 2 weeks before that magbrisk walking na ako mas okay kasi maexercise tayo mga preggy mommies para hindi tayo hirap umire. I wish NSD ako ngaun, i go for diet one cup of rice lang ako per meal then after work nakain na ako kaagad sa hauz, then next kain ko na is breakfast. kapag maliit kasi ang baby mas madali sya ilabas ;D ;D

hi mga sis,

I'm on my 28th weeks na today! Yey!

I also want NSD and if keri ko walang epidural. LOL! Takot ako sa mga chemicals and stuff... mataas naman tolerance ko sa pain and I exercise daily pero we'll see. Anyway, sana umayon saken ang pagkakataon. 9 weeks pa hihintayin namin ni baby.  :)

magkaheight pala tayo sis ;D, so kung 36 weeks naglakad lakad ka na,  what week ka na naglabor talaga? My OB aims as well for NSD and ganun din ako, mas ganado ako kasi OB ko mismo nagsabi we will have to try magNSD. even nung 8 weeks palang ako. I was on a bedrest for 3 weeks due to brownish discharge nung  26th week.

Hi sis, my OB is pro NSD. 40weeks 5days nung naschedule ako for induction of labor... 8 hours after, nothing happened, no pain, no dilatation of cervix with maximum dose and drips of oxytocin... But we failed... Since nag oligohydramnios nako (low amniotic fluid index), kailangan nako maCS... I was hoping na maKapag NSD ako since my son was only weighing 5.8lbs... Pero wala...

Within 24 hours post CS, pinilit ko na umupo kahit masakit... In 48hrs nakakalakad nako... I did that for faster recovery at para gumalaw intestines ko at makafart at makapoop nang sa ganun ay makauwi nako  ;D But i stayed in the hospital for 4 days because of spinal headache dahil sa regional anesthesia, side effect (pero hindi lahat nagkakaganon)...

Why i like NSD, kase normal process siya...

For less chances na magkaepisiotomy, do kegels excercises to strengthen the perineal muscles...

I know the horrors sa labor and delivery rooms, im a witness kase nakapagpaanak na rin ako for more than 20 times...
To fight anxiety, nakakatulong ang knowledge about birth process...

If i was given the chance na makapagnormal, magnonormal ako ;)

first time mom din ako, giving birth in september, and i am also afraid of nsd! nag-set aside na kami ng enough funds to cover cs operation, just in case.

i'm still trying to convince myself to go for nsd -- ang pinaka nakaka-motivate sa akin is mas mabilis ang recovery period pag nsd (i'm planning to run another marathon early next year), miss na miss ko na kasi talagang tumakbo.

my worry is that i am having my first baby and i'm 39 years old -- most of my classmates from grade school, high school and college who gave birth recently HAD to go for cs (after going into labor for several hours).

at my last check up, my ob said everything looks ok pa naman, no indication na kailangan mag-cs.

here's hoping for the best!

C/S was born for those who needs intervention in L&D.

I know it's a scary thing to give birth with all the pain your body will be going through, but a woman's body is amazingly programmed to give birth the natural way.

But for me, I had C/S for my son's delivery despite his very small size but that was b'coz we need him delivered stress free. We found out that his cord (despite a portion of it is very thin) has a coil. Thankfully the perinatologist told my OB to go for C/S. My OB was the one who wanted me to give birth naturally. But I was really uncomfortable with the idea, and I guess it was instinct. He was not safe for natural delivery. We never know what would have happened if we pushed through natural birth.

What I'm trying to say sis, is that, listen to your body. Not all pregnancies are the same. You will be the one to know if your body could do it or not.

May it be natural birth or C/S, we could never evade the pain. After the anesthesia wears of, the surprising pain really made me not wanting to move. It was really hard to move, I did not even want to stand up but you have to after 24hrs from the operation. Natural or C/S, each has its pros and cons, so it's better to weigh it up. If you have a healthy pregnancy, baby is healthy too, then it would be nice to go for natural birth. But usually, decisions are made in the labor room because we never know what would happen next. I guess you have to be ready for both possibilities. :)

I'm scheduled for CS on Monday. I'm optimistic that everything will be fine kase reassuring naman ang ob ko. I'm a first time mom at 37 ears old and took us 4yrs to conceive naturally.
