^tammy1979, I suggest getting a hotel within the city area coz you need to take the bus + MRT in order for you to go around if you stay there. Whereas if you stay at let's say Bugis, you can just take the MRT, less hassle and less complicated Yes Geylang is safe BUT please also consider the travel time going to the tourist attractions you and your friends are going. And for first timers can get confused with taking the bus here also...
