normal ba sa mom na may adhd child to feel guilty and depressed? ganun kasi ako parang nauubos ang lakas ko. gusto ko sisihin sarili ko sa nangyari sa anak ko. i know he is unique pero i can't help myself telling my hubby ayoko siyang maging unique! gusto ko siya maging katulad lang ng ibang bata.  :'(

^ as a senior OT,  nakita ko na siguro almost lahat ng reactions/ugali/sentiments ng parents in dealing with their children.. That's natural. Wala naman masama na aminin what's inside your heart. Pero alam mo sis, I always tell parents na more than anyone, it is imperative that the parents set the tone on how others deal with their child

For example, a parent na "nahihiya"- child gets left out often, for example out of the country trips, trips to mall. The other siblings could alienate the child kasi they copy the reactions of mom and dad. Poor social and interpersonal skills ang bata

Parents na supportive- child gets exposed socially, gets therapy they need, given just right challenges, aiming for independence, follows up at home, yaya or relatives don't baby him and has just-right expectations - happier child , more well-rounded. Siblings grow up na accepting too

Parents na galit sa mundo- left with yaya, ignores, yaya "maltreats" child- unhappy child, anxious child, low motivated, poorly functioning

Parents na eager beaver- even therapists can get motivated a whooole lot more if parents at the start sets the tone na, eto may deadline tayo, eto goals natin. Doctor handling the case pays special attention , makes special request na only senior therapists handle the case ( yes true eto Minsan nastress ako kasi kahit Gabi doctors follow up)

Bottom line what I am saying, normal nararamdaman mo sis. But more than anyone, parents are the main support system..If you feel anxious about it or may feelings of anger, you can talk to you devped who can reco you for counselling..

Please feel free to message me sis if  you want to talk more about it

@rhumbafrapp  sis, my son is attending OT for almost 4yrs. at risk for adhd. he's now 6yrs old and the dev ped said during our last visit to stop na since laki nang improvement nya and to continue speech therapy na lang. hindi daw adhd but monitored pa rin.  there are a lot of times na parang ayoko pang mag stop. actually di ko pa talaga pinag stop ng OT although i know naman na pwede na rin since we noticed a big difference in his behavior. kaya lang pag nagkukulit pa rin sya or umiiyak, natatakot ako na baka bumalik na naman sa dati yung behavior nya without intervention na. can you suggest what are the things to do in this situation na nag stop na sa OT? i am thinking of giving him OT activities kapag nag stop na sya kaya lang problem ko, pag kaming dalawa ang dami nyang excuses hanggang sa wala nang nangyari.

sis rhumbafrapp I'm feeling a bit better now. thank you. I took your advice by heart when you said I should be the one to lead on how my child will be treated by others. Kahapon I spoke with the school principal (normal school) regarding my child's condition (transferee ang anak ko kasi ) and coordinated with her on how we can help my son in academics. it was a very positive meeting.

today i have to call the school principal again kasi yesterday umuwi ang anak ko feeling very low. He's already taking anti depressant na so nagtaka kami. he told us na in one of his class (he's in Grade 6) a values education teacher called him "oy kalbo!" at "para kang beybi kumilos". What came to my mind is to correct him sa pagsagot niya ng pabalang. we told him to try to express his feelings in words at kung ano pa dapat niya gawin to calm himself down like lumayo nalang siya instead magsalita ng masakit.

fast forward nung gabi hindi ako mapakali. sabi ko sa hubby ko i need to speak to the adviser or to the principal. i felt na kahit hindi adhd ang anak ko, he doesn't deserved to be name called-- by a teacher mismo. disiplinahin nila fine, pero to name call? ano ka bata?

so tinawagan ko ng gabi yung adviser to speak to that teacher, then today morning, di ako nakuntento at tinawagan ko din ang principal!  ;D to let her know na this is what one of her teachers did to my child. ayoko palagpasin kasi what she did to my kid sets a tone to his class on how his classmates will treat him as well. kung siya nga tinatawag niya anak ko ng nasty words, pano pa yung ibang bata?

So that's it.. tama ka sis rhumbafrapp,, parents are the one's should be assertive on how we want others to treat our children with special needs. We need to set the right tone for them. salamat sa pagbahagi mo ng kaalaman.

Hindi sila ngsasabi ng word na "No or "don't do that" kasi mag iisip pa sila why kahit explain lalo lang maguguluhan. Kaya ginagawa nila sinasabi nila ano tamang gawin. Ex. May napulot na kahoy yun bata na may matulis sa dulo na parang panaksak. Gusto ny gawin ihagis sa tao. Sinasabihan sya na sa basurahan yan inilalagay. So yun bata sumusunod naman kadalas kasi pag no word ipipilit nun bata gusto nya. Nakikita namin struggles ng parents nung bata. Then nagshashare din sila worried sila sa future nun bata.

hi sis! it's best to consult your child's devped regarding this. My son is turning 4 this october and no final diagnosis pa pero i think it's autism na so will also ask if we need to send him to a sped school. right now he's attending ot (3x a week) and speech (1x a week). relate much ako sa feeling mo sis kasi kahit ako mas gusto ko sana sa regular school siya pumasok.  :-\

I'm so thankful talaga at may thread na ganito..Salamat sa advise, sis. He's also 4 years old, ienroll ko na sana siya sa regular school this year kaya lang nadiscourage ako noon sinabi ng principal na OK lang ienroll anyway socialization lang naman daw ang kailangan ng anak ko but ayaw nila ng assurance na matutoto talaga ang bata since hyper nga siya..nakakawalang gana.

Sis Leven, I can't help but comment regarding sa insensitive remarks ng Principal about your child.

ADHD goes to normal school as far as I know pede sila iaccept with accommodations. Kahit nga yung may mga mild autism cases and children with down syndrome may mga kilala akong pumapasok sa regular schools din. Hanap ka nalang ng ibang private schools who can accommodate your  child. Kasi once the kid is with them, may responsibility ang Principal at Guidance counselor sakanya.

Hi sis! Nabuhayan ako sa sinabi mo. If in case na ADHD yung case ng anak ko sana irecommend sa amin na sa regular school siya.  :)

Before, I was hesitant to enroll my son in sped. Siguro kasi I was in denial.
Nag regular school kami (iba iba to ha) and pinatawag kami ng principal because of my son's behavior.

Kasi ang sped, gagawan nila ng program yung bata according sa ano needs nya.. my son has 1:1 but most of the time nasa classroom sya ng regular kasi kaya nya... ang gusto ko lang sa sped, sure ako na yung teachers would know what to do in case my episodes siya - so walang judgement at the same time di matratrauma yung bata kasi kapag sa regular tapos di pala akma sa kanya, diba kawawa?

rhumbafrapp can the family go to you na muna before going to the devped?  It's so hard to get a schedule.  I asked kanina for an appointment and we can be accommodated next year pa daw.

i think my adhd yung anak ko dinala ko siya sa developmental pedia sabi need daw ng therapy and medicine. He is 11 years old now, ang likot kapag kumakain tayo ng tayo.

^^ lalake ba anak mo sis?

same age sila ng anak ko. boy yung sakin. yung maturity niya hindi angkop sa edad niya. kung magwala din grabe as in iba ang energy level! haha  ;D however the more we are strict to him now. dati kasi mas lenient kami. ngayon mas gina guide namin siya and we give him other ways to solve his frustrations. kailangan kasi nila madevelop ang problem solving skills.

inadvice din kami mag gamot pero pinatigil namin, it was a family decision.

Ayaw niya lumabas gusto puro computer. Gusto ko palitan yung therapist niya kasi laging absent. We never tried yung medicine kasi sabi nila magiging robot daw yung bata

samin naman inalis namin ang computer games sa anak namin, no gadgets, no playstations, no mall arcades, and also very "limited" tv exposure. mga 1 or 2 hours lang  stretch on both weekends. bakit namin ginawa? kasi nabasa ko dati na mas lalo daw eto dadagdag sa "noise" na meron ang adhd child. mas lalo silang nagiging hyper. so ang ginawa namin inexpose namin ang bata sa libro. naglagay kami ng mini bookshelves sa room niya. kapag nabobored siya, we refer him to his books. we also make sure his room is free from clutter. laging malinis para it will help him calm.

kapag lumalabas kami dahil wala bawal sakanya ang gadgets, napipilitan siyang makipag usap or makipag laro sa ibang bata or else mababagot siya sa upuan. it works naman samin.
