to my fellow breastfeeding moms kaice and iristacey, Congrats to us for reaching the one year mark of breastfeeding. :)

Can't believe na I'd be breastfeeding until now when my breastfeeding journey did not start smoothly.

During my baby's first month, ayaw niya mag-latch sa akin kasi nagkanipple confusion because of early bottle-feeding. I had no choice to bottle feed her on her 3rd day after delivery kasi nabinat ako ng sobra and the simple act of getting up from the bed, nagkakamigraine ako ng todo todo. Parehas kaming nahihirapan. And so I started mixed feeding, pumping and formula. Just like other moms na nagstastart na early with pumping, nakakadiscourage talaga ang first output. I even thought that my pump was broken kasi I could only get few drops. But since I equipped myself about breastfeeding, I did it every 2-3 hours kahit walang lumalabas. Hanggang sa eventually I made it to exclusively pumping. Minsan nagaattempt ako ipalatch si baby, pero most of the time, ayaw niya.

But since I imagined myself even before giving birth na I'd breastfeed, on her 7th or 8th week, tiyinaga ko lang na mapa-back to breast siya. Tiis talaga sa iyak and rejection. Since then, we directly feed kapag andiyan ako and bottle feeding with BM when I am in work.

Pahirapan pa sa place to pump sa work ko since I work for an airline. So mahirap isingit sa flight. Pero since kinapalan ko mukha ko, nagkukulong ako sa lavatory just to pump. I know it's not the ideal place to pump but I have no choice since our aircraft doesn't have curtains para medyo discreet and away from passenger's view.

Mga sis, has anyone of your babies had jaundice because of breastmilk? My baby was jaundiced for a good 3 weeks kasi. Yung visible talaga sa mata. The doc and I thinks it was due to breastfeeding and the excess blood from her Cephalhematoma. Nag lighten na naman yung yellow undertone nya pero meron pa ding konting-konti sa sclera ngayon that we're 5 weeks old.

Nakakapraning kasi mag research.  :-[ If your baby had jaundice from BM, when did the jaundice eventually gone?

She was diagnosed o have physiological jaundice at her day 12.

^^ Sana talaga may like button dito sa GT. :) Congrats sis! Sana kami din.

^ Hello sis! Hindi ko din hininto ang BF. Although the pedia said not to stop din naman. Whether from BM  or hematoma yung cause ng jaundice, we're just happy na almost clear na yung eyes nya.  :) I still feed her every 2-3 hours para maganda ang stool output. And paaraw for 30 minutes. Why 1 hour sayo?

I'm 7 months preggy and I just visited my OB last Saturday. Syempre ang dami kong tanong about breastfeeding, about Unang Yakap, rooming in, etc.

Saka after 24 hours ko pa daw maru-room-in si baby. How can I make sure na walang ibibigay kay baby other than my breastmilk? Should I visit my prospective pedia kahit never ko pa siya namimeet?

haay, yung baby ko hirap nanaman ipadirect feed. i thought okay na kame. ngayon prefer nananaman nya yung bottle. ayaw nya kasi matulog. parang pakiwari nya pag direct feed kame, for sure makakatulog sya. :(

^or if possible, you can check also her tandem pedia. interview mo lang to see if she is aware of unang yakap and if she supports breastfeeding. i suggest on making a birthplan also na not to give anything to baby in form of bottle to avoid nipple confusion at a very early stage.

^^ Hindi nga BF advocate si OB. Kahit sa hospital where I worked for, may mga OB na ayaw ipa-latch si baby kasi ayaw nila yung madaming tao na nakapaligid sa DR table. There usually is an assistant to the OB herself, a nurse circulating at kung may Unang Yakap, another nurse for the baby. Tapos iiyak ng sobra si baby? Ay naku, lumalabas pagkabugnutin ng mga doctor. Esp the older ones. Old school sila eh. Gusto nursery agad.

What happened to me naman, si baby derecho agad ng nursery. She was just 100gms past the Small-for-Gestational-Age (2500gms) mark and she didn't cry right away. Kahit advocate ako ng BF, I didn't tell them na mag latch kami. I let the pedia check her first.

I gave birth 4:10 am. I was transferred sa room by 7:30am. Pedia visited me around 9am. Prior to that, I saw a video of my baby in the nursery na umiiyak at nag ru-root na. We were told na for further observation si baby. So I told our pedia, i-room in na si baby at ako ang mag oobserve. Kawawa anak ko. Mukhang gutom na gutom na talaga. She knows I'm a DR nurse at kabisado ko ang unang yakap (or we call it EINC) so pumayag sya.

May milk ba? Magkakamilk ba ako? Ni hindi kasi ako nag leak ever while pregnant. And she's so tiny, she gets tired agad after a few suck then she'll sleep. But I made sure we EBF talaga. Hindi ko tinantanan.

Now, from our last check up when baby was 4 weeks old, she gained 1.1kg. :) And she's still getting heavier by the day.  ;)

iristacey, thanks for the advice! I already have a birth plan na rin, sana masunod :)

maika14, while nasa nursery si baby mo, walang ibang binigay sa kanya like water or formula? Yun kasi kinakatakot ko pag hindi room in agad. You can't be sure kasi kung wala nga talagang binibigay na iba.

They should've check the mommy first daw kung gusto i-formula. Or ask the consultant esp kung BF advocate ang pedia. ::)

super nakakapayat ang bfeeding!! oa!! thats why i stopped na din talaga when my baby turned 1 last jan, im now slimmer compared to pre-pregnancy weight! ako mismo natakot ewan ko ba i kept on eating but im sill losing, up to now madalang na ako mag bfeed kasi hindi pa sanay ang baby to sleep through the night without feeding, so i still bfeed twice during the early morning but my milk supply is really low now, i did it gradually so i really haven't experience much engorgement during the withdrawal period. :) I reached pre-pregnancy weight 6 months after giving birth...

to my fellow breastfeeding moms kaice and iristacey, Congrats to us for reaching the one year mark of breastfeeding. :)

cheers to us!!! kahit challenging ang mga sked natin, if there's a will, there's a way talaga :)

shooting star- even if pedia is pro BF, dapat clear sa OB mo na you intend to breastfeed. not all hospitals  look at birthplans esp if the doctor does not agree. hospital staff will carry out what is ordered by doctors. hope you will be successful in your BF journey :) attend breastfeeding classes, check reliable sites and join support groups :)

^congrats talaga. mas bilib nga ako sa inyong dalawa kasi hirap ng scheds nyo. at least ako di naman super dalas client meetings ko. pero minsan kapag wala ng choice, i hand express at cr kasi need ko ng plug. im better at hand expressing than manual pumping eh. mas marami akong nakukuha. :)

^^sis LC, kung di ka na madalas magbfeed, how many times na lang ba magfeed si baby sa yo during the day?
