I've read sa other forum na you can really earn 50k sa 51talk if you are already a 5-star teacher. Their rate is P66/lesson and you need to work at least 10 hours a day. Pero if you're just starting, around 50pesos yata and that is 25minutes/lesson.

Nagapply ako sa Unhoop and got accepted, my training would be this march for 10days. So hopefully maging ok naman. Part time lang ako coz im still a student.

hI Sis, check mo yung isang thread about "Online English Teachers" namention duon ang 51talk..

I don't know who pulled the P50,000 figure out of their ass, but it's B to the U to the LL-s***. Sorry, not all of us here are t****.

Anyone with a calculator or at least a rudimentary grasp of grade school math can figure this out. with the rate they posted, the only way you would earn anything close to this figure is if you teach class for
* 16 hours straight (yep, double shift, no lunch, no coffee break)
* EVERY SINGLE DAY of the week (yes, Monday to Sunday, no day off) for 30 days.
Yes, I did the math. Just for shits and giggles, because based on my experience their rate seems like a joke.

1. How many 25 minute classes could you realistically fit into 1 hour? (HINT: 2)
2. How many hours are in a standard work day? (8 working hours)
3. How many classes can you fit into 1 standard shift? (8 x 2 = 16)
4. If your agreement is 55 pesos per class, how much do you get for 16 classes a day? (55 x 16 = P880 daily)
5. If you have a full schedule every workday for a month (unlikely, but it could happen), how much would you earn after 4 weeks?

P880 daily x 20 working days = PhP 17,600

Run the numbers yourself if you don't believe me. Does that seem close to 50,000 to you? Hello??? On their facebook they're advertising 70,000. (Seriously, go check.) Even if that number were in yuan it would scream FAAAAAKE!

At the "special" rate of P60 per class you'd still only be pulling in P19,200 a month, tops. IF none of your students cancel. Please note, that is BEFORE taxes. Yes, may bawas pa yan, dontcha know. Illegal yan kung wala.

I did similar work a few years ago (Korean clients) and my basic was 16k for 10 classes (10-20 min), and an additional 1300 for every student beyond the minimum. If my schedule was booked solid, I would have a maximum of (8hrsx3classes per hr) 32 classes a day. At the rate I just posted that's 16k basic plus 28,600 for the extra 22 classes. Factoring in taxes, cancellations and other deductions that's roughly around 20-30k net, which is about right, based on my payslips. Tiring, but I did have time to have a life, and a reasonable amount of cash to enjoy it with.

For a job that requires you to think, I wasn't paid well, but I was paid fairly. I appreciated that. If you want something easy, apply at a call center. You're paid about the same plus incentives and the company takes care of all your govt docs for you(SSS, PhilHealth, etc). You don't even have to think this much, just follow the standard procedure and meet your metrics (I have been both an agent and a trainer so yeah I know what I'm talking about). For some lines of business (usu. banks) all you need to do is literally read the spiel that pops up on your screen--nothing more, no deviation, parang robot. Easiest money my trainees have ever made. Teaching, on the other hand, requires preparation, analysis, and follow-up to be even passably mediocre.

At P55 per class, don't be a sucker. Unless you're really that incompetent, desperate, and professionally worthless. After all those years you spent studying, after all your parents sacrificed to pay for your degree, ganun ka ba ka-cheap?

And if you, dear reader, actually work there: caveat emptor (you get what you pay for). Pay a decent wage and you get decent quality work. If you pay a s*** salary, guess what you're gonna get?

This company, specially Baguio gives false promises. Do not apply here. I am working under this company and they did not give me my fair salary. They also delay the salary of other teachers. It promises you flowers and trees, but when you are in it, you will find out the truth on how unfair and political this company really is.

I've been teaching in 51Talk for 2 years now. Ako I work part time OK naman 4-5 hours lang ako work.

Hope this help.

51 TALK IS CHEAP
« Reply #13 on: July 15, 2014, 02:44:15 pm »
This company knows nothing of ethics and professionalism.  They dont have respect for TIME.  Theres ALSO no way for you to contact anyone in authority, no proper email correspondence cause all transactions are made via skype.  thats obviously their way of protecting themselves so they could ABUSE anyone!  and during the interview process they dont show themselves on cam.  beware cause secretly this sick guy there secretly takes pictures and your face is used without your knowledge!
and since...
the people here have no respect for time, Chinese culture obviously, they dont ever apologize! I advise that you just take on their abuse, dont complain to their HR cause the person youre complaining about is not professional enough. they will take it against you.
all is a waste of time no matter how excellent you are if youre placed on a very bad Interviewer.

they wont ever stick to anything that youve discussed on ur previous interview.
the people here have hidden intentions.
you wont ever have a chance to go through any of ur studied lesson plan and
all that you will experience are carefully crafted with all the malice and bad intent.

you cant ever directly email anyone in authority because they hide those information
very disorganized and no coordination among employees
they dont have respect for time
all the materials they have are merely copied from another tutoring company
totally devoid of ethics and professionalism
and lastly it is a Chinese company need I say more.. that being said is enough for anyone to lose interest
ABUSE.. thats the only thing you will be getting from this company

THIS COMPANY IS CHINESE NEED I SAY MORE.. THATS ENOUGH REASON FOR ANYONE TO LOSE INTEREST AND WALK AWAY!  DONT LET YOURSELF BE ABUSED SO TO THOSE WHO ARE EVER CONSIDERING APPLYING HERE I SAY JUST DITCH IT.. 51 TALK IS CHEAP!

hi. anyone here currently working at 51Talk? I have applied and now waiting for an sms or call from their sourcing team? Can anyone here still refer me or maybe follow up for me na e-educator na because maybe they will pay more attention to my application if somebody who's connected to 51Talk will follow up for me. Just a small favor and I can give the assurance that I am qualified and have a really good command of the English language. Thanks. :)

Hi! I was able to read all the previous messages on this thread.  I must say, some posts  are intriguing.

I've been working in 51Talk for 3 years now. So to those haters, hate all you want. I'm one of the pioneer teachers in this online school. Part-time lang ako kasi I'm a graduating college student. To those who had a very bad experience with our company, I must say that if I'm the one in your position, I will also rant the same way that you do. But obviously, some posts here are perfectly written and well-thought out essays of people who possibly are under another ESL companies.

To those who are interested on joining this company, wala naman atang mawawala kung ittry nyong mag-apply. Besides, you will not pay any single cent prior or during your application so wala namang mawawala. We all have and experienced having doubts applying to a new company.

To those who are SOOOOOOOOO hooked up about the **up to 50k salary.. I would like to explain 3 things:
1. Yes this is true. But, this would only be possible only after you have reached the 5-star rank teacher which is not difficult to achieve. All newbies, will start as a 1-star rank teacher, as more classes and more students go by, syempre, dadami at tataas ang rank mo.
2. As far as I know, 51Talk has better rate as compared to other ESL homebased online institutions.
3. UP TO - UP TO 50k. It didn't say 50k per month ang salary. 'nuff said.

If you have any questions, just leave a reply.

Hi! Everyone I am also a pioneer teacher of 51talk. I've been working with this company for more than 3 years now. It started with the name jpnetwork they were catering Japanese and Chinese students the first time I joined this company.

I am responding to this thread because I have read all the comments here especially "invictress13" message. I was able to get 40K salary a month before tax, but the comments here is not only talking about the salary. Mga guest, visitors etc. na interested to apply or join 51talk. I am going to lay all the cards and it is up to all of you to decide.

1. Once na na hire na kayo yes it is true na you will start as a 1 star teacher in which you will earn 50.00 per 25 minute class, however since bago pa lang kayo hindi ganun kadami ang magbo book sa class nyo even if open na ang schedule nyo from 6am-12mn. At this time marami pang mag a assist na admin kasi bago pa lang kayo so expect na helpful sila sa inyo.
3. Sabihin na natin na nalampasan nyo lahat ng na mention ko in number 1 and 2 at naging 5 star teacher na kayo. Syempre malaki na bayad ng per class ng student 66.00/25 minutes on weekdays at 76.00/class during weekends + incentives like complete attendance bonus + performance bonus (no complaint, no absence) + peek hour bonus, let's say aabot ng 1K lahat ng bonus per cut off however dapat 50 classes in one cut off to avail all the bonuses.
4. Pero syempre lahat ng company may rules at ang rules na yan sa 51talk ay pabago-bago since nasa company kana all you can do is to follow. Ang tanong ay, makatao paba ang rules? again invictress13 part time ka at full time ako more than full time pa kasi 40 hours a week lang ang full time db?
Why? So, it means wala kang magagawa kasi walang proof.
Nag class kayo using skype nalaman mong 2 sila sa isang class which is against company rules dahil one is to one class lang ang 51talk or may problema sa net ng student although okay ang speedtest ni teacher.

In more than 3 years sobrang dami kong nakilalang admins, teachers na magagaling na umalis. Mas marami pang scenario na hindi makatao........Now, it is up to all of you to decide.

If you're just looking for a quick fix or a part-time while you're looking for a decent job then I would recommend this company.

The PROS - hawak mo oras mo at kung marami kang students then you get to earn money. That's it!

The CONS - a lot! Yes, this is a Chinese company from China but the people or admins working in the Philippine office are mostly Pinoy. If we were dealing with the Chinese in China directly then I would understand why they are unprofessional.

They will tell you all the perks and bonuses that you'd get but when you're finally in, then expect that you might not get the it or you'll get them after going thru hell which doesn't sound like a perk already.

I heard they have THOUSANDS of students so if they are earning a lot then I don't understand why they behave differently when it comes to giving away the perks they promised.

During the early days, I have friend who was working there. She got a tarpaulin bearing the 51Talk logo to use as a backdrop for free. When I decided to join 51Talk, they told us that only P100 will be subsidized by the company. I and some other teachers I know had our tarpaulin printed but when it was finally time to ask for the reimbursement then they will just give you all sorts of excuses.

Personally, I was told that I'm no longer qualified for reimbursement because we have a 3K sign up bonus already. I was surprised because it was never mentioned in the training session. The other teachers I know wasn't able to get reimbursements as well no matter how many times they asked for it. They were told to email this and that email address but nothing happens.

Then comes the 3K bonus. It seems the 3k sign up bonus is only a paasa. I believe sign up bonus shouldn't have any conditions at all before you get it. But in this company, they will give it in 3 parts. 1st part of P500 will be given after you completed your requirements within 24 hours and the 2nd which is P1000 will be given after you earn at least P8000 in 1 month and the 3rd which is P1500 would be given if you earn at least P10000 in the next month. So what kind of crap bonus is that right? Ok lang sana kung on time binibigay pero it was not given on time.

Finally, if you have a concern with regards to student or a class then you can expect them to reply right away but if it's your personal concern then expect that your human rights will be violated and it will took them ages to reply to your concern kahit na naka online sila sa skype.

So far, yan palang na experience ko personally. Actually, I have read about negative things prior to joining and my friend even warned me. But I thought they were just scorned employees - now I know.

As long as hindi ka nila dadayain or as long as you won't be breaking any rules then pwede kang kumita otherwise mastress ka lang.
