Im avoiding malls now even for food.  :)

Tama rin to "pay yourself first."  Now, diretso na ako fund transfer through BPI online to my PAMI mutual fund.  :).  Yung sobra diretso na sa bills.  Sometimes walang pang-shopping na natira but ok lang.  I can buy what i need anytime through my gains sa investment.  :)

Income-savings equals expenses talagang effective for me. :)

I'm doing the envelope kind of budgeting and it's not yet working for me. It is so hard to maintain saving and limited spending habits when you have a baby/toddler. Even if I remind myself to "spend way below my means," I can help but buy what I think is the best (which is usually expensive) for my baby. That's why I always visit this thread to get aside from the tips, the inspiration and motivation. I hope I can also share with you my "how to save tips" someday when I finally learn what saving really is.

Saving methods like envelope and even savings account without atm does not work for me.

But true na kapag may credit card super gastos talaga.

I have a credit card and also atm but never ako natetempt to buy unnecessary things using my cards. I always jot down those things that I need for a month so naka budget na yun. I learned from my mistakes and I am proud to say now that I know how to manage my finances well..

^^ credit cards can be a big help naman...if used properly. ;D lalo na kapag may tunay na emergency (hindi yung emergency dahil biglang may sale haha). some people kasi treat credit cards as 'extra' money and not 'utang', which is a dangerous frame of mind. if you can, bring just one credit card, the one with the lowest limit, and stash that and debit cards in a separate wallet, so you won't see it as often and be tempted. at the end of the day, tally your expenses. you'll be surprised how much money goes to certain areas na akala mo paunti-unti lang, yun pala ang laki na ng nailaan mong gastos doon.

Use CC in your advantage. What I did is I used credit card sa grocery, gifts for a birthday party, christmas, wedding events and etc.; new clothes (kapag sira at superduper kupas na ang damit at syempre sa Sale lang sa mall na malapit dito sa amin); kapag may bibilhing bagong gamit o kaya furniture at lahat pa ng needs. Every time I use credit card, (be sure na may pambayad kang "CASH" dito at hindi utang), nagwiwithdraw din ako ng money sa ATM na pambayad mismo dun sa kinaskas ko, tapos pagkauwi ko sa house, nililista ko sa envelope yung mga nakaskas then ilalagay ko yung pera nung total na kinaskas ko for today. Discipline lang talaga if ma-attempt ka to buy the wants. Wala akong WANTS at di maluho, I'm living a simple life and simple lifestyle so walang problema sa akin ang WANTS na yan. My cellphone is also not a high-end phone. Everybody has a want so Ang WANTS ko lang talaga is Travel locally and abroad. Pero limited lang ito. Once a year, nililimitahan ko ang paggala. It's either 1 abroad and 1 local a year, or 0 abroad and 2 locals a year. Yung iba, I just wait for a nice copy from torrent and download it lang.  :-)

Wear dress sa office.  If you wear pants (or any two piece attire), sayang sa labahin at plantsa.  There are cheap dresses in bazaar section of landmark.

Before I buy, I check first sa FB page ng company if may promo sila or not. Usually, meron yan (particularly hotel rooms... cheaper than in group buying sites pa)

Or I check first if someone is offering for sale online (example: make up is usually cheaper on eBay... like Face Shop and Tony Moly).

Also, I check sa sulit if someone is offering GC at a cheaper price than yung GC worth. Example: I needed to buy gifts for inaanak last Christmas. I checked the net, found Bench GC na 25% off. I bought the GC and dun ko na binili yung mga gifts.

Know your credit/debit card's promos.

For example, last May BPI EPS offered 3% rebate for purchases worth P2,000 and above, up to a maximum rebate of P600.

My credit card is so kuripot sa mga freebies for purchases but from time to time it offers rebates as well for qualified purchases. So aside from that occassional Promo, I also earn points that can be converted to cash rebate which I redeem at the end of the year when it's time to pay for my insurance policy.

To illustrate:

Come enrollment time last May, I checked if my child's school accept EPS. They do so I compared credit card vs. EPS payment methods.  At that time tapos na yung cash rebate promo for qualified credit card purchases so I opted to pay thru EPS instead.  I transferred funds to different ATMs (4 actually, hehe) and 4 different ATM cards were swiped. With this method, yung pinambayad ko sa uniform, bags, etc ng daughter ko eh almost nabawi ko.

I did the same thing for my hospital expenses last May (for my CS), so a small part of my medicine expenses nabawi ko rin. ;-)

Yun lang I have to do these myself since di yan pagti-tiyagaan ni hubby ;-) and kahit medyo tedious I still do it.  Why? Because P20,000 even in Time Deposit will not earn 3%!

I use the same principle for free parking - okay lang ma-hassle magpa-validate ng ticket.  Our savings will not earn P10.00 or P15.00 from interest on savings account within a month's time.

i used to do the envelope system but doesnt work for me,, nalilipat lipat ko  :D  and true, wants become needs na. i try my best to discipline myself na lang, if i want to buy something, di ko muna bibilhin, iisipin ko muna yan atleast overnight kung gustong gusto ko talaga.. minsan dahil sa guilt hinde ko na lang binibili  ;D i learned to control myself now, dati bili agad, ngayon isip isip muna pag may time..  :)
