Know your credit/debit card's promos.

For example, last May BPI EPS offered 3% rebate for purchases worth P2,000 and above, up to a maximum rebate of P600.

My credit card is so kuripot sa mga freebies for purchases but from time to time it offers rebates as well for qualified purchases. So aside from that occassional Promo, I also earn points that can be converted to cash rebate which I redeem at the end of the year when it's time to pay for my insurance policy.

To illustrate:

Come enrollment time last May, I checked if my child's school accept EPS. They do so I compared credit card vs. EPS payment methods.  At that time tapos na yung cash rebate promo for qualified credit card purchases so I opted to pay thru EPS instead.  I transferred funds to different ATMs (4 actually, hehe) and 4 different ATM cards were swiped. With this method, yung pinambayad ko sa uniform, bags, etc ng daughter ko eh almost nabawi ko.

I did the same thing for my hospital expenses last May (for my CS), so a small part of my medicine expenses nabawi ko rin. ;-)

Yun lang I have to do these myself since di yan pagti-tiyagaan ni hubby ;-) and kahit medyo tedious I still do it.  Why? Because P20,000 even in Time Deposit will not earn 3%!

I use the same principle for free parking - okay lang ma-hassle magpa-validate ng ticket.  Our savings will not earn P10.00 or P15.00 from interest on savings account within a month's time.

Agree ako dito. Like BDO, may rebates sila for debit purchases (thru atm) of 1,500 and up. :-)

Hi sis, i suggest you pay off first yung credit card debt mo if you have any... And then.... ,ake sure if you have to buy something using your card, make sure na you have the money or cash talaga to pay it off in full. Meaning kaskas mo lang card mo for points lang but you have a ready cash na agad to pay it off.

Then..... Control.. Control... Control... Usually what i do, i set a weekly savings amount talaga. E.g. For this week i need to save 3k so ill get my 3k agad (allowance sis ako from hubby ha), then pasok ma agad sa bank. Kung anong tira yun ang gagastusin ko. Si hubby strict yan. Pag lumagpas ako sa allowance ko and may gusto ako bilhin, titiisin talaga ako nun so i will have to save up and pagkasyahin ang allowance ko.

Leave below your means sis. Para di ka mashock agad, first is target mo to save 50k within this year. Then pag nareach mo na, aim to make it say 100k by end of 2014.. So on and so forth.

may i just say this about saving... its not just about frugality, not just about about controlling the urge to shop for the unnecessary, not just about wants vs needs...

its is also about the "joy" in saving, the satisfaction of being able to save money, the happiness of seeing your money grow.

sa mga wala pang savings, try nyo mag-save paunti unti kahit monthly lang 1k. kung nag-save kayo ng 1k starting january at the end of the year you'll have 12k. malaking tulong pang-noche buena at pambili ng regalo s inaanak. malay mo di mo na kailangan galawin ang christmas bonus mo.

in a way, nakaka-adik din mag-save :)

I want to be in this thread.

Nakakatuwang tignan pag nakikita mong lumalaki yung savings mo.

I am so happy to see my money grow kesa noon na almost ng ubos yung money ko sa savings account ko sa kakabili ng unnecessary luxury. Now, I still buy makeup pero yung kailangan ko lang talaga at hindi yung nagcocollect tapos naeexpire lang.. Buti at natauhan ako.. Haha!

I have 2 accounts in one bank (payroll and savings). Then when it's payday, first thing to do is to transfer funds to my savings account.

^ah. Hide lang pala.

Mga sis? What do you think about getting a construction loan? We have a lot already paid in cash. For the construction, we are pondering on getting a pagibig or bank loan. We have a cash on hand kaya lang baka mas wise na ipa ikot na lang yun sa negosyo.

And ilang cc do you guys keep? I have 3 at the moment. Always paid in full naman.

I agree with things, clothes, toys ni baby. I used to hoard pag sale sa mothercare. Cute kasi ng clothes dun! :P now di na. I buy na lang ano kelangan talaga. Bilis lumaki ng babies ko. Yung iba di na naisuot.

Mga sis, any techniques on how to not withdraw sa bank.
Yung utang ko like sa cc at insurance for this month lang kasi i always pay in full.

So tama'ng ginawa mo sis to pay your debt first. Unless walang interest yung utang, like utang sa relatives or kaibigan, pero relationship naman ang nakataya dito pag di binayaran agad kaya mas maigi talaga na bayaran muna lahat ng utang.

May nabasa nga ako minsan na if you have a debt you are always a slave to your debtor daw. >:(

Im on building up my emergency funds. Yes may savings and investments ako, but i should not consider that as my emergency fund as well.

But being the eldest child, na-instill na kasi sa akin to make sure that my family is --and will be well taken care of--in case i go...

^sis ganito naman yung ginawa namin para we're able to save at the same nag-eenjoy rin naman sa pinaghihirapan. We save certain percent of the salary agad-agad pagkatanggap ng sahod, then the remaining % we will spend it kahit saan namin gusto. By doing this, kahit maubos man namin yung natirang pera atleast we're confident kasi in the first place may inipon na kami.

I make sure na at least 25% of what I get from my salary goes to savings. From payroll account, I transfer it to my savings account. I also allot money for my "bad savings", para dun ako kukuha ng pera in case kulangin ako pag sumosobra sa budget. So, yeah, I'm keeping 3 ATMs (payroll, savings and bad savings).
