About sa DIY braces, PDA (Philippine Dental Association) released a memo about it.

And there is no such thing as cosmetic braces. Di po siya kinakabit lang basta and voila! braces! Pinag-aaralan po yan, need ng xrays, casts, pictures to study kung anong/when wire/rubber gagamitin.  Kahit sabihin ng nagbebenta na "mabuti" siyang tao, kesa ganitong graduate siya, nag-aral sa magandang school (na wala namang dentistry course doon or meron man) wag niyo pong subukan. Also di rin po pwede ang dental student/di pa board passer. Madaming DIY ngayon na yan ang mga sinasabi nila na para sabihing "mabuting tao at gusto lamang tumulong na para magkabraces".

Got my braces on last week. Sakit pa rin ng ngipin ko pero tolerable naman. I got clear sapphire braces, I think the brand/type is ICE. They're not too obvious, aesthetics-wise I love them, but they are high maintenance because of staining. The brackets don't stain but the clear/white ligatures do so I have to stay away from a lot of foods that can potentially stain the elastics (coffee, curry, tomato sauce/paste, etc.).

Mga sis ano ba yung nabibili ngayon na parang DIY na braces? May nakatry na ba dito? Para siyang isang set/kit tapos yun nga DIY.

Dentist here. I have a few number of people who already came to my clinic complaining about braces they installed on themselves. After these materials screwed their teeth up, they demanded (some still are!) that I fix them. Idiots. Don't even think about getting your hands on them. Unless you want to say good bye to all of your teeth?

It makes me mad that there are people who are too dense (read: stupid) to recognize that something could highly potentially harm them. Tulad nga nitong "diy" braces na ito. Ilang taon pinag-aralan ng mga dentista ang tooth movement, bone growth and remodelling, orthodontic techniques, etc. etc. at hindi ito basta basta at madali. Mahirap po ito. Hindi ibig sabihin na porke't nakalagay na ang brackets sa ngipin mo, eh okay na. Hindi po ganun. Maraming techniques para maayos ang alignment and bite ninyo.

Sorry for the rant, pero kaming mga dentista kasi ang napeperwisyo dahil sa DIY braces na yan.

yesterday i was really late with my dental appoinment kaya naunahan na ako ng isa pang patient , anyway ok lang nood nood muna ako TV sa waiting area then 3mins lang siguro lumabas na c doc and yun patient , sobrang galit yun patient kinukulit yun dentist namin na kabitan siya nun dala niya na brackets ba yun parang naka supot na lang na gamit na yata basta feeling ko DIY yun , sabi ng dentist ko ma'am wala pong dentista ang gagamit ng ganyan na makakasira lang sa teeth ninyo . In the long run baka mas mapamahal pa kayo pag nagkaroon ng problem ,,, hehe sa loob loob ko ang dami ko na rin kaibigan lalo na sa office na biktima ng DIY , baket kase magmamarunong kaya nga may dentista eh.  edi relax na ako kase ako na ang next ...may dumating ulet inunahan ako  pero sabi nun receptionist "ma'am upo muna po cla " sabay abot ng paper na sinusulatan ng Info .... sabi nun girl ... ma'am nagmamadali kase ako gusto ko lang ipakabit eto brackets emergency lang kase nag out lang ako sa office , sabay lingon sa akin " okay lang miss? sobra nagmamadali lang " oh yes and yes another DIY ano ba ! bawal nga kayo sa dental clinic ! kung gusto nyo magpakasira kayo na lang .... edi na reject siya ... at sya pa galit ! wow talaga epic talaga bibili bili kayo tapos hahanap kayo ng magkakabit ! hay nako buti na lang at matindi pasesya ng dentista ko kase ako naimbyerna ako kahapon

ps: sa mga mag DIY wag nyo asahan eentertain kayo sa DENTAL CLINIC ... magsolo kayo pakasira hindi naman importante sa inyo ipin nyo Go lang kayo sa DIY

Sila pa talaga yung galit pag na rereject.. nakaka lungkot lang at talagang meron tumatangkilik sa DIY braces. Gusto lang kasi nila pang porma..

^ hindi yan basta kinakabit lang. As mentioned, kailangan xray tapos cast. Kasi doon magbebase kung anung klaseng mga brackets etc ang gagamitin sayo.

hmmm i wonder bakit ganun dentist nila,

may friend kasi namin na dentist, sa kanya required na may xray and cast, hindi ko maintindihan bakit dun sa dentist ng cousins ko wala na daw xray-xray, 4 sila nagpakabit ng braces dun, worried tuloy ako for them.

I had a friend as well na kinabitan ng DIY braces. At first I thought it was a different kind (kala ko nga ceramic yung bracket) Upon closer look, napansin ko it's not the normal brackets for braces. I asked her bakit iba, she told me kinabit daw yun ng cousin nya, para daw mas makatipid. Sa isip isip ko, naku, pang porma lang niya yun. I just hope in the long run walang mangyaring masama sa ngipin nya.

I know a lot of people na they want to use dental braces and retainers for porma. Kahit ako when I was young gusto ko din ng retainers, parang ang astig kasi haha and syempre uso. But then yung ka batch ko, she wore retainers (not the retainers from your dentist na around 7k ha, yung tig 600 pesos) and after a few months, yung sungki niyang ngipin lalo yata naging worse. Kaya much better talaga to go to a dentist/ortho for your brace concerns.

Napansin ko mula ng nagka brace ako nagsilabasan yung mga cavity in between teeth siguro dahil gumagalaw nga, does anyone experience this too

^di ko napapansin or is it because may monthly cleaning naman kasi bago inaadjust ni doc yung braces ko.

damon braces here. planning to work abroad next year (march 2015) i told my dentist to removed my braces before going kasi baka di ko na ma maintain, but the other dentist na nagcover sa dentist ko told me na pwede naman daw dalhin sa abroad braces ko, need lang regular check up abroad to prevent gingivitis.. now i dont know ano piliin ko. natatakot din kasi ako na baka bumalik sa dati pag ipatanggal ko. yaw ko din mag retainers mas mahirap ata sya i deal kesa braces.

This is the mots painful braces adjustment so far for me ang sakit!! Straight chain na kasi siya although okay naman na ngipin ko. Di siya damage masyado. Nagteteeth grind ako do you think it affects sa process ng pagaayos ng teeth?

@sis airish_2 mga dumi yun na tumigas. Dapat after eating pag toothbrush up down stroke.
Palinis mo na lang sis sa dentist mo kasi baka masira ipin mo. Tsaka monthly nag papaadjust tayo right? Nililinis naman yun ng dentist before iadjust.
Tsaka sabi sakin nung dentist dapat every 6 mos din daw tayo nagpapacleaning ng teeth.

^yun nga sis monthly ako nagpapaadjust yung dentist ko medyo tamad ako pa magsasabi na doc palinis haist  dito sa house toothbrush at gargle talaga ako.

i had a braces consultation with a real orthodontist.
at tumataginting na 100k yung quote nya sa akin. not the special kind of braces ha. yung normal metal braces lang. hindi pa kasama yung retainers jan na 10k.

so the downpayment would be 40k, then 3k monthly for 20 months. if after 20 months, hindi pa ok yung teeth alignment, wala na daw bayad. ang bigat kasi ng payment terms nya.

may alam ba kayong real orthodontist na nasa 20-30k lang ang downpayment and preferably 1500 lang ang monthly? para naman mas magaan sa bulsa. kahit yung natitirang amount eh after na bayaran.

^ ang mahal nga nyan, sis. Is that the average going rate these days? 5 years ago, I think i paid 20k to fix yun sa babang part lang. Plan ko mag-braces uli after i give birth kasi umurong teeth ko.
